1 | is there a devil | Bible general Archive 4 | brrrilliantsteve | 236491
Fair point. As indicated by the text you reference "22 And God’s anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him..." Balaam's action was clearly rebelling against God's will hence God was an adversary against Balaam for rejecting his will. |

2 | is there a devil | Bible general Archive 4 | brrrilliantsteve | 236323
My word yes. If Lucifer had not rebelled in heaven to become the devil. Then there would be no true or real need for Jesus to atone for the breaking of God's law. An adversary is by definition in rebellion. Definition of ADVERSARY : one that contends with, opposes, or resists : enemy |

3 | Romans 7:1-4 | Bible general Archive 2 | brrrilliantsteve | 236115
Yes. Luke 23:56 "And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment." Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. In this second verse the Greek word is sabbatismos, which is derived from the Hebrew shabbath. The new testament is full of examples of how Jesus and his apostles kept the Sabbath both before and after his death and resurrection. In fact all of the 10 commandments can be found in the new testament |

Daniel 7:24 (KJV 1900) 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. One of the keys to understanding Revelation is to understand Daniel. |

5 | Why did God allow Polygamy? | Gen 2:21 | brrrilliantsteve | 236020
I have heard from bible teachers that Jesus baptism may was substitutionary just as his death was substitutionary for our sins. Not that Jesus baptism negates our command to repent and be baptised but that it may be "applied" to people in the situations that you (justme) described. That is to people who for one reason or another are not able to be immersed in water.
6 | Rev 22:12 and post millennial judgement? | Revelation | brrrilliantsteve | 235976
I would like to respond to E.Smith and CDBJ, Thank you both for your responses and the opportunity to study together. I partially agree with you both and I think we are definitely in the same ballpark. It is clear in the word that after the time of the white throne/1000 year judgement is the second death for the wicked. Which brings me to Hebrews 9:27. CDBJ the text actually reads “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Greek, ABP, KJV, MKJV). This is an important differentiation because 1Pe 3:18 says “For Christ also once suffered for sins,…” Very simply, both of these texts are linked with the idea of having only one chance for salvation, that is, there are no further opportunities for the lost to be saved after their death. No preaching to the saints in hell, no purgatory, no second chance after a secret rapture, no transubstantiation, (I will stop there). CDBJ is there a difference between being judged for you works, and being rewarded for your works in Rev 22:12? I’m not sure. Also I don’t know what (BEMA) means. CDBJ, regarding “those born during the millennium” Mark 12:25 says “For when they shall rise from the dead (Matt- in the resurrection), they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are as the angels in Heaven.” This seems to indicate that we will no longer (by association) procreate once we are in heaven (I believe the millennium for the saved will be spent in heaven). If this is the case then there will be no need for concern for there will be no new born. (I am not sure how I feel about that given I have no kids of my own, but I am sure the pleasure of being with our saviour and the wonders awaiting us will fulfil us for ever more). Steve |

7 | Rev 22:12 and post millennial judgement? | Revelation | brrrilliantsteve | 235972
Hi E.Smith Good work on the King of Tyre and the Stars of heaven. I do have a question for you though. How do you reconcile a post millennial judgement with Rev 22:12? "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Jesus is speaking to John here, and he clearly says that his reward is with him when he comes quickly. This has to be his second coming as the redeemed have not yet entered the gates into the city for their reward. Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Immediately followed by his reward for those that you mentioned in Rev 22:15, which is being left outside the city. Steve |

8 | Disputed Ending of Mark 16 | Mark 16:9 | brrrilliantsteve | 235971
The Catholic Mirror published a series of articles from September 2, 9, 16 and 23, 1893 dealing with this subject. (And also others before and after this to recent times). I think this might be the quote you are looking for... "The Catholic Church for over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission changed the day from Saturday to Sunday." |

Salvation Poll What is needed/required/necessary for salvation? (Firstly, I request that there be no discussion in response. I do not want to start arguing or create stumbling blocks etc... I simply request any answers be a list with corresponding verse, Thanks.) I am very interested in knowing exactly what the Bible says is needed for salvation. What better way do document this than to multiply my efforts with the talent in this forum. Please feel free to repeat any verses that may have already been quoted, as I will tabulate the results in a week or so. Thank you. |

12 | No man having put hand to the plough is | Luke 17:20 | brrrilliantsteve | 235854
Luk 9:61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. Luk 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. A) Putting ones “hand to” is an action. In the context of Jesus second coming and in reference to the plough it denotes earthly works. B) Looking back – This is what Lot’s wife did. If you skip forward in Luke to chapter 17:20-33 you will find Jesus responding to the Pharisees about when the kingdom of God should come… Luk 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Luk 17:24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. Luk 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Luk 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. Luk 17:31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Luk 17:32 Remember Lot's wife. Luk 17:33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. Going back briefly to the original story in Gen 19:16,17 While Lot, his wife and 2 daughters “lingered” in their house the two strangers took them by the hand and dragged them “without the city” and said “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.” Answer: Because of the speed of Gods return there will be no time to “look back” to the works of our hand. (Nor should we want to remain in this evil world). If one does “look back” you are effectively rejecting your salvation for worldly goods. On a side note: these references hardly sound secret, Sorry! |

13 | How do you feel about the Ten Commandmen | Ephesians | brrrilliantsteve | 235845
Thank you Fmp for your responses, I really appreciate it, as it gives me opportunity to demonstrate the reason for my faith. I completely agree with you, Matthew, Mark, and Luke that God does not want us to worship two (opposing) laws at the same time. Mark 3:24-26 “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.” If you live by the New Testament law you by default are living by the Old Testament law as well. They are one in the same. Matthew 5 is a wonderful example of this. And yes, the 4th commandment law was included in the New Testament and is most definitely part of that everlasting gospel. (See Hebrews 4:4, 8, 9 - Revelation 14:6, 7, 12 - note the similarities here to the 4th commandment of Exodus 20:8, 10, 11). But I will not dwell on that. The one thing that stood out to me in your last reply was your statement “I say go ahead an worship any way you desire.” With great respect, worship is THE topic of the Bible, as well as Jesus. The Bible begins with controversy over the "way" to worship in Genesis, and ends in a battle over who is worshipped in Revelation. And even before Eden, worship was the centre point of Lucifers rebellion in Heaven. Ezekiel 28:17 tells us that his heart was lifted up because of his beauty and his brightness. We are also told of him “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” Isa 14:13, 14. Lucifer's whole desire is to draw worship away from God and to himself, and what better way to do this than to draw us away from our day of rest and ‘convocation’ with God? Genesis 2:3 “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it:” Exodus 20:11 “the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Exodus 35:2 “the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD:” Leviticus 23:3 “: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an holy convocation;” Clearly it is the seventh day that has been blessed, sanctified, and made a holy convocation; No other day can claim this. (I do apologise, I did say I would not dwell). I pray though, that we all "desire" to “worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters” Rev 14:7. |

14 | How do you feel about the Ten Commandmen | Ephesians | brrrilliantsteve | 235836
G'day Fmp A proposition; What was first, the Jew or the Law? 3 quick points. Your passage in Exodus 34:27 refers only to the writing of the law, of which included the seventh day Sabbath of God commandment. In fact the first times the word Sabbath is recorded in the bible is in Exodus 16:23, 25, 26, 29 (before the 10 commandments were written) in relation to the Israelites not collecting manna on the seventh day which is a Sabbath unto the Lord. Many also believe that Moses re-introduced the Sabbath to the Israelites in Egypt. See Exodus 5:5 “And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.” (Also before the Ten Commandments). Before Moses, God made a promise to Abraham giving the reason, Gen 26:5 “Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. (See my previous reply to BradK) (Also before the Ten Commandments). 1Jn_3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Rom_6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom_5:14 “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.” Here it is clear God’s Law was (and still is) binding, even to Adam, Before sin entered this world. Before the Ten Commandments. And Mat_5:19 "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Is the 4th commandment the least? One more thought. Why would Lucifer Not want us to keep the Sabbath of the Lord? |

15 | How do you feel about the Ten Commandmen | Ephesians | brrrilliantsteve | 235829
Thanks BradK for your questions, in reply... Do you keep all of the commandments? Most certainly. John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments”. John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: …”. Are you then keeping the commandments for your righteousness before God? An excerpt in reply… “Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God.” James 2:23. And Paul says, “They which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.” Galatians 3:7. But Abraham’s faith was made manifest by his works. “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?” James 2:21, 22. There are many who fail to understand the relation of faith and works. They say, “Only believe in Christ, and you are safe. You have nothing to do with keeping the law.” But genuine faith will be manifest in obedience. Said Christ to the unbelieving Jews, “If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” John 8:39. And concerning the father of the faithful the Lord declares, “Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” Genesis 26:5. Says the apostle James, “Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” James 2:17. And John, who dwells so fully upon love, tells us, “This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.” 1 John 5:3. (Patriarchs and Prophets 153.4) What is the basis for your salvation? There is no contest; Christ is salvation to all who believe. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Christ has said: “He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life.” John 6:47. |

Hello BradK, It is Because I love God that I keep his commandments. 2Jn 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the Beginning, ye should walk in it. Appreciate your sentiments, Steve. |

17 | How do you feel about the Ten Commandmen | Ephesians | brrrilliantsteve | 235819
Jesus says: "And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail." Luke 16:17. God says: "My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips." (Notice, the Ten Commandments came from God's lips). Exodus 20:1 says "And God spake these words saying...[The Ten Commandments follow in verses 2-17]." It is utterly impossible for ANY of God's moral law ever to change. ALL Ten commandments are binding today. If not why did Paul and the other apostles keep God's seventh day Sabbath holy? |
