Phil 4:8 tells us: 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. So telling them what they are doing right allows them to focus on that. However, God does use correction as well as encouragement. |

I feel it's far better to ask questions and let the person figure out the answer themselves - you learn far better that way. Most people take exception to being "told" what to do. It is wise to ask questions and perhaps lead them to understanding the right answer. Ask, "why do you think that's the right answer." make them look at their reasoning. Jesus taught in parables because it gave people a way to relate to headier issues. It made them think and ask questions to understand. |

We are salt and light as Christians in a fallen world. Salt is a preservative. It keeps things from going bad. Thus, Christians are a restraining force on the world. Restraining from hedonistically persuing sin and debauchary with unabandoned lust. We are still the conscience of the world. One of the reasons so many believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the church (just to throw another idea into the pot). That the force preventing the anti-christ from having his way with the world is the believers still here, praying and acting on their faith. It is also used to add flavor to life. Truth and good character, making the right decisions, behaving the right way, give life flavor. They give it value. There are also notations about a Christians behavior (Matt 5:13) We are the light of the world. The world is darkness without us. We are hope to those stuck in the darkness. We are a beacon to those who search. Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Also, there is a great resource called www.BibleGateway.com. You can do scripture, key word and topical searches on it. I recommend you go there and try to reason some of these things out for yourself. When you allow the Holy Spirit to answer them, it's an awesome experience. |

John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Marked with a seal is something permanent. Like they marked slaves to identify them as their own. Ephesians 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 2 Timothy 1:14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. The belief that God deals with people differently during different periods of time. Example: Adam and Eve- Law written on their hearts, so God dealt with them in a certain way, then The Law: Men were held to that standard. Then Grace: When Jesus came. Now we are under the dispensation of Grace. It is also sometimes taught that certain acts of God are only for a certain time. For example: miracles are not for today, that dispensation has passed. It was during the time of Jesus and the Apostles. However, I personally don't hold to this because of Hebrews 13:8 (God is the same yesterday, today and forever.) Yes, God deals with us where we are, but his values and standards are always the same. His standard is perfection. Remember, Abraham has his faith credited to him as righteousness PRIOR to Jesus dying on the cross. I would agree. The Bible is so multi-layered, I think to suggest any book speaks only to one segment of humanity is limiting God. While the bulk of a book like Romans really focuses on our lives as Christians, because it outlines so well the way we are called to behave - it naturally has an impact on non-christians. Just because they haven't accepted Jesus, doesn't mean that God wants any less for them. I think you've got it right! |

I would add that BOTH God and Hezekiah, as well as Menassah, CHOSE and bear the responsibility of their choices. We need to remember that God operates in a different realm than we do. We can only understand things from our perspective in time and life. God truly sees things differently because he has so much information. You remember the old story of the blindfolded scientists presented with an elephant and they all come up with different descriptions of what it is because of their limited experience. God always does His will. It would seem to me impossible for Him not to do His will...though I don't quite grasp how it works I trust who God is and as others have commented, accept my ignorance on the matter.
