1 | Gen 6: 2; angels are "sons of God" ???? | Matt 22:30 | asilra | 214393
On one hand I tend to believe angels are androgenous, but in gen 6: 2 "...the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose." I was taught that the "sons of God" were angels and that this passage accounted for Goliath's giant size. This raises a question for me, Why does God blame man/woman so severely since it would be thought that the sons of God would be more accountable for their actions when compared to man. Humanity at this point reminds be of an infant, controlled by what feels good/bad, easily swayed by others, and still learning about him/herself and the environment thru trial and error. It seems God was rather harsh and definitely impatient when it came to his creation. I suppose the above question may be more rhetorical than not but I would appreciate anybody's further thoughts on this. Thank God for Jesus. |

2 | Is "supposedly" a misprint? | Luke 3:23 | asilra | 214392
The NIV says "...He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,..." Luke 3:23 which I take to mean that those that did not believe in the virgin birth thought Joseph was biologically Jesus' father.
3 | why gen. 27: 39 differs in kjv vs nasb | Not Specified | asilra | 214391
In genesis 27:39 Isaac blesses Esau..."Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;" (KJV). In the NIV it says: "your dwelling will be AWAY FROM the earth's richness, AWAY FROM the dew of the heaven above." (niv). I have found that 9 out of the 16 translations I have checked agrees with the niv. Only the kjv, nkjv, 21st century kjv, asv, ylt, and Torah don't. This seems like a pretty large error especially when the references given also agree with Esau having been fruitfull to the point he and Jacob had to separate to allow enough room for their crops and livestock to flourish. I found this error upon my search for a translation of the bible that would suit me. In the mean time I've ordered the Tanakh Study Bible to further my learning of the Old Testament. I figure the best source of the OT would be from those whose ancestors lived it and wrote it. Thanks for any insight you can give me on this subject.
