1 | Is Hades then Purgatory? | Bible general Archive 1 | anointed1 | 46464 | ||
BELIEVERS DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT RESIDE IN HADES UNTIL THEIR RESURRECTION. Only unbelievers (those who have not confessed with their mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believed in their heart that God raised Him from the dead) go to Hades: 2 Corinthians 5:8 says "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." and Philippians 1:1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better. The Revised Standard Version has introduced "Hades," the word found in the Greek text, which signifies the unseen world, in the following scriptures Matthew 11:23; 16:18; Luke 10:15; 16:23; Acts 2:27,31; Revelation 1:18; 6:8; 20:13,14. Two Greek words translated "hell" in the New Testament are Hades and Gehenna. The temporary holding place or "local jail" is Hades, while Gehenna refers to the final penitentiary for lost souls. The Lake of Fire is usually synonymous with Gehenna. (See Romans 2:5; Matthew 11:23,24; Matthew 23:14) (see Hades; Gehenna). |
