1 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | Tom J | 10484
In 1 Cor. 13, the phrase "that which is perfect" refers to the Bible. The Greek usage of a neuter gender rules out that it is talking about Jesus or God in any form. The gift of tongues was a sign gift that is no longer needed. Tom J
2 | once saved, always saved. | Bible general Archive 1 | Tom J | 10482
The Bible clearly teaches that once a person is truely born again, they can not loose there salvation. 1 peter 1:4,5, Ehp. 4:30, John 10:28 and a number of other passages. Also read 1st John. Romans chapter 6 addresses our response to sin as well as 1st John 1:9. What is "eternal life" if it is not eternal? Since we can not get to heaven by our good works, Eph. 2:8,9, it would follow that we can not keep our salvation BY good works. Tom J |

3 | No speaking in tongues, no Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | Tom J | 10330
In first Cor. chapter 12, the gift of tongues is listed as given to some. To others other gifts were given, by the same Spirit. Does that meen that those that recieved the gift of healing or other gifts, and not the gift of tongues, they were not saved? Or that they did not have the Holy Spirit inside of them? I don't think so. 1 Cor. 3:16 says that we have the Holy Spirit inside of us if we are born again. Chapter 12:1 calls them "spiritual gifts". Verse 4 says they come from the same Spirit. (big "S") 1 cor. 13:8-10 tells us that tongues "SHALL cease" when that which is perfect is come. When and what is that? I know, but you should study this one yourself. Tom J |
