1 | past prophecy or future or both? | Mic 7:5 | The Cynic | 59052
Emmaus, I am rather new to the forum and perhaps do not know how to find my way around. I have attemped to read every post or note/question/answer you have posted but I have not found any refrences to this program you have mentioned. Might I say, from the post I have read, you are either a master at apologetics or you have an unreaonably clear head. Your defence of your faith in the face of outright attacks is to be commended. Thus I commend you! Bravo! Well Done! Allow me to explain: I am a Baptist who was at one time a Catholic. Although I disagree with many parts of what I was taught I have a tendency to belive that most of the error was in man and not in the Church (proper-roman) or church (universal-fragmented). I am a student first and a teacher last. I like to take the position of socrates on most things: If I know then what I know is that I know nothing. I would be very interested in the "program" you mention. I would enjoy the opprotuinity to view it with an open mind. Looking Forward to future reading... Keep the Faith. |

2 | Why does God love the world (us)? | Genesis | The Cynic | 59030
In preface, your answer is very helpful and probably correct. However your answer (with included scripture [thank you]) is that God's very nature, his make up, is why he loves us. That he is love and can do no other? Humm... This is interesting philosophically because it raises the question as to whether or not God has a CHOICE to love us (and thus the thrust of my question) or rather that he Chooses to love us and what the implications are or may be of a God that could choose not to love us. At this point, I concede, I am making distinctions for the sake of argument. You may very well have hit the nail on the head. It is neat and simple, makes since and is backed with scripture (and the Word is Truth). but my nagging conscience can't seem to let go. IF it is in his nature to love us, as you have rightfully said, Then does he have a choice? IF God can and does CHOSE to love us then why? |

This is a toughie because I am looking for scripture on it. I have no problem with love nor being loved by God, how gracious that is and how awsome. I in no way want to belittle what Christ has done for all of us. perish the thought!! I am just trying to figure out why. Truth is there may be no explaining it. That would be ok with me but I thought I would test the skill and the knowledge, both considerable, of this forum to see what youall could come up with. My goal is grow closer to God through this search. To understand. to "have the mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus" so to speak. |

5 | Why does God love the world (us)? | Not Specified | The Cynic | 58935
Why does God love us? What is the scriptural answer to this? I know that John 3:16 (among several others) explans THAT God loves us. Why? I am trying to apply the Why3 method to the question "What did Jesus want?" My answer was "to save the world" from John 12:47 (among others) Why? #1 A: So that none would perish but have eternal life (paraphrase John 3:16) Why? #2 A: For God so loved the world... (John 3:16 again) Why? #3 This is where I get stuck. Why does God love the world?
