1 | What is the story of Luke's genology? | Matt 1:16 | Taleb | 111784
TommyS, here is the “story” of Jesus’ family tree in Luke 3. Just so you are aware, Hitchcock’s defines some of the names in the list different than some of my other sources. It defines Adam as "red earth". However, the Hebrew word Adam is the same word most often translated “man”. Also, the various sources I used, use different definitions one from another. For example, Enoch – some say dedicated, some say preaching, some teaching - either one of which would keep the “flow”. Reading UP in Luke 3 from verse 38 UP to 23, the names spell out the "story" of a GOD-MAN whose purpose was to provide the eternal truth that GOD SAVES. From God, the source of Adam (man) to Christ, the source of salvation, I separated each definition with a comma. GOD, MAN, APPOINTED, MORTAL, SORROW, THE BLESS GOD, SHALL COME DOWN, TEACHING, HIS DEATH SHALL BRING, POWERFUL, REST, THE NAME, RELEASES, SORROW, AS SENT FORTH, BEYOND, AN OPENING, FRIEND, INTERWINED, SNORTER, YOU MAY BREATHE, EXHALTED FATHER, HE WILL LAUGH, WILL TAKE BY THE HEEL, HE SHALL BE PRAISED, BURST OUT, ENCLOSED, HIGH, PEOPLE OF A WILLING GIVER, ENCHANTER, IMAGE, IN HIM IS STRENGH,SERVING, MY MEN, BELOVED, A GIVER, FOLLOWING, SOOTHSAYER, DEAR FRIEND, GOD WILL ESTABLISH, GOD IS A GRACIOUS GIVER, LET HM ADD, HE SHALL BE PRAISED, HEARKENING, JOINED, GIFT OF GOD, GOD IS EXHALTED, GOD OF HELP, GOD WILL SAVE, STIRRED UP, NOT MEASURED, ORNAMENT, HE ADORNED, MY KING GOD, MY LAMP GOD, I HAVE ASKED OF GOD, MELTED BY BABYLON, HEAD, GRACE OF GOD, HE SHALL BE PRAISED, LET HIM ADD, HEARKENED OF GOD, GIFT OF GOD, FROM THIS TIME, ILLUMINATING, RESERVED OF GOD, COMFORTED, BURDEN, GIFT OF GOD, LET HIM ADD, FLOURISHING, MY COUNSEL, JOINED, GIFT OF GOD, ASCENDING, LET HIM ADD, GOD SAVES!!! 2 | wine and acohol | 1 Tim 5:23 | Taleb | 111536
You asked a legitimate question, “what does God/ the bible say about drinking wine and alcohol?” While some incorrectly claim that the Scripture strictly forbids it, using the hit and miss of select Scriptures as evidence, the whole of Scriptures very clearly state the truth. Let me make this perfectly clear about one thing - I personally do not drink wine or alcohol, or coffee. But the only reason I don’t drink those things - I don’t like the taste. EdB tried to feed you misinformation with a lop-sided explanation. Prayon also only gave you one side of Scriptures’ two sides of dealing with alcohol. The first “mention” of the Lord “giving permission” to drink alcohol in Scriptures is found in Deut. 14:26 “And you MAY spend money for whatever you wish, for oxen, sheep, for wine, or liquor, or anything that you have a craving for, and there you must feast in joy before the Lord your God, you and your household” This “command to buy and drink” follows what the Lord declared “against” drinking wine and strong drink in Lev 10:9. BUT observe the “who, where and when” it is forbidden. “And the LORD said to Aaron, ‘Drink no wine or liquor, neither you nor your sons WHEN you enter the tent of the meeting’ …” As far as what EdB attempted to suggest concerning the wedding in Cana … Unless one can get DRUNK on grape juice, Jesus turned the water into WINE. John 2:10 “Everyone else serves his good wine first, and his poorer wine after people have drunk deeply …” The “drunk freely” means “to drink to intoxication (methuo)” It is always used to signify that thought, like in 1 Cor 11:21 where Paul comes down on people who used the wine in communion to “get drunk”. The common misconception that Jesus used grape juice for the last supper goes against the “benefits” that WINE represents in His blood. Anyone who has ever partaken of a passover and used grape juice and leaven bread or crackers HASN'T partaken in a passover feast, they merely sipped juice and ate crackers. Blessings, Taleb |

3 | Why two dreams instead of one? | Gen 41:25 | Taleb | 111044
Tim, you ARE correct. We don’t have to agree. As a matter of fact, I’m BEGINNING to agree with your conclusion. Once again, you "filled in some holes". While it was “fun to discuss”, this “study” I shared with TommyS is multi-years old and it has too many years since I “reviewed” it. (MY wife might try to inform you it’s been too many years since I’ve done anything right) :) Too be perfectly honest (as though being honest wasn't “perfect”) I’m beginning to think like an old relative I used to have. JUST for the sake of an argument, she would take the opposite side of someone else, even if she really agreed with the other person. I’m naughty for falling into that mold too often. :) (So much for being “perfect”.) I trust that you enjoyed watching your son participate in the state chest tournament. I have two questions. How did he do, and can YOU beat him? :) Blessings, Taleb |

4 | Why two dreams instead of one? | Gen 41:25 | Taleb | 110739
Tim, thank you dear brother for your studies. I believe I see where you are “missing it” :) I apologize for not giving a better explanation of “how” to view them. Allow me to make another attempt, please. You listed side by side the seals, the trumpets and the vials. You are “missing” the seven angels that tie together with the seven seals. Side by side the trumpets AND the vials. Just those two, and like the cows and grain – ALL the words don’t have to be the same. And side by side the seals AND the angels. Having the same message, is what makes them the same. Much like your wonderful explanation of with the resurrection story. Trumpet one: “Hail cast upon the earth ” - Vial one: “Upon the earth … and sores” Trumpet two: “Cast onto the sea …and blood” - Vial two: “Poured upon the sea … blood” Trumpet 3: “Upon rivers and fountains …” - Vial 3: “Upon rivers and fountains” Trumpet 4: “Sun smitten” - Vial 4: “Poured upon the sun” Trumpet 5: “Bottomless pit” (who “lives” there?) - Vial 5: “Seat of the beast” Trumpet 6: “The Euphrates River” - Vial 6: “The Euphrates River” Trumpet 7: “It is finished” - Vial 7 “It is done” They aren’t only similarities in WHAT, and WHERE. But the EXACT SAME NUMBER that John uses matches those similarities. In other words, had number three trumpet match number four vial - this conversation wouldn't be happening. That they match perfectly side by side is what makes for an awful lot of “coincidences” not to mention there are NO “un-similarities” to cancel my point. I can do the exact same thing with the seals AND angels – if you wish. :) They TOO follow the same principle God gave us in Gen. Two equals one and the same. Fourth seal – death of believers Rev 6:7-8 . Fourth angel – death of believers Rev 14:13. Sixth seal “wrath of the Lamb” Sixth angel “Wrath of God”. Etc. etc. I’ve got to get to Church for some meetings. Blessings, Taleb |

5 | Why two dreams instead of one? | Gen 41:25 | Taleb | 110720
Tim, Scripture does say exactly WHY Pharaoh had two dreams of the same event. “The fact that the dream was sent twice to Pharaoh in two forms MEANS that the matter is absolutely settled by God, and that God will soon bring it about.” (Gen 41:32 The Bible - An American Translation). Concerning your respectful disagreement with me, I appreciate what you stated, however :) You see the differences AS differences. I see them as the same things, much like the “differences” with the cows and the grain WERE the same thing. May I suggest “an assignment”, as I read you did once? In effect, you suggested someone who pointed out the “differences” in Jesus’ resurrection to look at the four gospels as one. You even went the extra mile and painted the word picture for the world to see “how” they are NOT different, but complete. The sea isn’t going to turn to blood twice, is it? Rev 8:9 says the second trumpet sounded and one third of the SEA turned to BLOOD. Rev 16:3 says the second vial was emptied his vial upon the SEA and it turned into BLOOD. There isn’t going to be TWO “finishes” are there? The seven trumpet sounds (Rev 10:7) and “it is finished” The seventh vial is poured out with “it is all over” (Rev 16:17) Tim, if you did the same thing with the trumpets against the vials and the seals against the “angels” – you will conclude that ONLY differences are from two “viewpoints” of the same event, much like your example of the resurrection. God “set the example” in Genesis about parallels to “help” us better understand Revelations. Respectfully, Taleb |

6 | Why two dreams instead of one? | Gen 41:25 | Taleb | 110682
TommyS, I spotted this question earlier and was tempted to offer a possible explanation. While I'm on the keyboard, I'll go ahead. Joseph himself had two dreams before he was sold. They too meant the same thing. His brothers did bow down. God seems to have "set an example" of offering us another one of His mysteries - which those in the world can't grasp, because they don't have His Spirit. Usually, while reading Scriptures, people fail to keep the WHOLE in proper prepective. Take Revelations for example. Most are "afraid" to really tackle the wonders of that book. Like the dreams of Pharaoh, God did the same thing with Revelation. Many erroneously think that first the seals, then the angels, then the trumpets, then the vials. Wrong. Just like Pharaoh's dream - they fit together. The first trumpet and the first vial - exactly the same thing. All seven of each are the same. First trumpet "upon the earth". First vial "on the earth". Second trumpet - sea and blood. Second vial - sea and blood. etc. etc. The first seal and the first angel are one and the same. The seventh seal and the seventh angel, and each one in between, go TOGETHER as an event. God IS the same yesterday, today and forever. Blessings, Taleb |

7 | What is the story of Luke's genology? | Matt 1:16 | Taleb | 110677
TommyS, I will be glad to "tell the story". Just give me a few days to locate my old notes on it. The reason I became interested in what names mean is when I checked out the meanings of the names and why God wouldn't destroy them in too quickly. (Exodus 23:28-29.) God's special message in those "enemies" names inspired me to check out others. Luke is my "favorite". Blessings Taleb |

Hank, a while ago I obtained a copy of “New Age Bible Versions”. This anti-modern translation book erroneously depicts that ALL translations, except the authorized King James Version, ARE satanic. It even has a hideous picture of a winged dragon on its cover. One doesn’t have to read far to discover how off the wall G.A. Riplinger is in her faulty assessment. She quickly paints a fake picture that the NASV and the NIV are the result of a conspiracy of the New Agers, preparing “Christians” to fall for the schemes of the antichrist. With misquotes and taking other authors out of context, she weaves a path that is actually destructive to the purposes of God. Then, apparently in the hopes that no one really knows what the KJV really says, she quotes verses from various new translations as her evidence. (Huh?) :) On page 17, she lists a few examples where the KJV reads Jesus and the NIV “translated” the name to “he”. What she fails to reveal is the real truth about the matter. The KJV uses the name “Jesus” 983 times. The NIV uses it 1,275 times. About halfway through the book she tries to convince her readers “We should be particularly wary when someone refers to Jesus Christ as “the Christ”. This obviously contrived attempt to “prove” they are removing the name of Jesus to make way for the antichrist flopped dead in the water - considering she failed to take into logical consideration concerning the 19 times that the KJV uses “the Christ”. I use the KJV for all my memorization work. I use the KJV for all my “word study definition work”. I use the KJV whenever I want to read Scripture out loud. But, I know that, contrary to what some bumper stickers claim, “We use the Bible that GOD uses-Authorized King James Version 1611,” God’s word is NOT KJV. Blessings, Taleb |

TommyS, that was a good catch. I have too many Bibles too handy. I had just read from the NIV and then checked it out in the NLT. Apparently I still had the NLT open when I "copied" from it. Lke EdB wrote to CCBJ. the NLT to a good tool. Mine is a "Life Application Study Bible" and includes a lot of helps my many other study Bibles don't. Blessings, Taleb |

Thanks, Hank. I read a neat book once on this topic. Before I believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I spent some time on skid row. In order to obtain a free bed and bowl of soup, I HAD to attend the chapel meeting. Too often I heard what sounded like gibberish, such as, “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.” (Romans 7:19-21) Needless to say, I had absolutely no idea what they were trying to say. Had they used something like the NIV, well I wouldn’t have gone away with only a bed, supper and slip for breakfast. I would have become a believer a year earlier. “When I want to do good, I don’t. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. But if I am doing what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it. It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. ” I would have jumped up and shouted, “I know exactly what you are saying. I have the same problem. How do I get rid of this sin that keeps me from doing what I know is right?” Blessings, Taleb |

Ken John, on Sunday, at 5:08 PM, you wrote on under your number 2: “When the translators are questioned about this, they contend "this is a better translation" and are "easier to read" and "understand"? Praise the Lord! Have you never read what KJV 1611’s translation’s preface declares? In effect it stated it was not their purpose to make a new translation, but to make a good one better”. Like many today, people rejected the “new translation (KJV), claiming ” the Geneva Bible (originally printed in 1560) was the only correct one. Some of the pre-Geneva’s more than likely protested when that new fangled translation came out. I can almost hear their outcry today - “What’s the matter with Wyclif’s translation? We’ve been using that since 1384. Look what they that evil King James’ translators did with Matthew 7:1,2 “ Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged…” Then they would quote what they had memorized from Wyclif’s “Nyl yee deme, that yee be no demede, for in what dome yee demen yee schulen be demede.” But those who spoke the “king’s English” accepted KJV because it read like they spoke. Like in Luke 17:9 where KJV reads “I trow not”. ! Sam 21:3 talks about scrabbled on the doors. Numbers 20:3 “the people chode”. Gen. 8:1 ”and the waters asswaged”. Sorry, but God’s intention is to remember what Jesus said about “coming as little children” and I TROW NOT (don’t think) that any child would understand what we are CHODING (arguing) about. THAT is why updated translations, which use pre-KJV manuscripts, are so important to us today. Blessings, Taleb |

12 | Is THE SABBATH ON A SATURDAY | John 20:19 | Taleb | 109369
I'm sorry. Perhaps I should have explained my statement about my worshipping on Saturday. I apologize. On Saturdays my family DOES worship God, together with many others in our church. I DO NOT HAVE to come on Saturday, because the church also holds 14 different worship services on Sundays, throughout the day and throughout its facility. I could come to one of the many morning ones, one of the afternoon ones, or one of the evening ones – which ever would be MY choice. Our 20 plus pastors make good use of the enormous facility to accommodate the many “congregations” gathering in “their” place. With two separate Saturday services to choose from, we are able to make great use of the time. Although many “after service” groups meet for additional teaching, etc, if they desire. We believe what His entire word declares about the topic. We don’t take here a verse, there a verse, that agrees with us. Otherwise we would have to ignore, or black out the Scriptures that disagree. I accept everything that Scripture states about the Sabbath, NOT merely what it says about being on the seventh day. With enough Jewish background, I understand the premise of a Sabbath Day NOT just being every Saturday. Sometimes “the Sabbath” falls on Tuesday, or any other day of the week, AND on Saturday. Like the TWO separate Sabbaths that fell during the week of Jesus’ death. Colossians 2:16 is one of many places which refer to observing a day of rest. “Allow no one, therefore, to be your judge in regard to eating and drinking, or the observation of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.” Blessings, Taleb |

Emmaus, WELCOME BACK!! A few days ago I was reading some of the postings, (I try to catch some of the topics everyday, yet don't "get involved" very often) and lo and behold there you were again. I have quoted various Justin Martyr's writings over the years - He was quite a powerhouse for God's truth. Blessings, Taleb Blessings, |

P.S. "Here I am Lord", please understand that for the last year plus, my wife and I have personally WORSHIP the Lord in Church on Saturday. Often we bring a neighbor boy whose father happens to be a pastor. His Church worships the Lord on Sunday. I appreciate any info you may offer. Blessings, Taleb |

Excuse me, perhaps you will answer some questions that have been haunting me for some time. I have relatives that practice their faith in like manner as you. I will appreciate any input you may offer that sheds light on this topic that they can't explain. What day did Abraham (the father of the Jewish faith, if you will) keep for his sabbath? Why are believers called "sons of Abraham" NOT Moses since the "law" took effect in Moses' day? Thank you, Taleb |

16 | Is Bible study important? | 2 Tim 2:15 | Taleb | 109233
Hank, great question. Years ago, when a dear friend was asked about “reading the Bible” he commented, “I haven’t read the Bible in years. I study it.” For years, his statement became my attitude. Now, I do both, but separately. In the past, when I have worked with other churches, too often, too many expect their preacher to do the “Bible” FOR them. But Peter’s 3:15 “includes” verse 8 (if you catch my drift). “Finally, let ALL OF YOU be …” and Peter lead us to that place where he exhorts INDIVIDUALS in verse 15 with “but revere Christ in YOUR hearts and be always ready to make a defense to EVERY ONE” …(also individuals) “… who asks you for the reason of the hope that is within YOU.” And the same goes for 2 Tim 2:15. It IS everyone’s personal responsibility to present THEMSELVES to God …” Last year I made a resolution NOT to make any resolutions. I kept it too. : ) This year I promised myself to read at least one chapter of the New, one chapter of the Old, one Proverb (according to the date, like today it’d be 13), and five Psalms – the date, plus thirty, plus thirty, plus thirty, plus thirty. (Today, Psalms 13, 43, 73, 103, and 143.) That means I will read every Psalm and every Proverb 12 times this year. I’ll also read completely through the Scriptures again. In the past, my BIGGEST problem has always been – when I am reading something, a verse, a phrase, or a word catches my eye, and away I go. Too often, with too many different translations spread out on the floor, with too many “study books” on the “topic” at hand and … Thus far, this year, I am able to get a better grip. If I notice such now, I keep reading until I am finished, THEN I race to the researching books. Only eleven and a half months to go, before I get to start all over again. :) Blessings, Taleb P.S. Hank, just NOW, I noticed WHEN you asked this question. Interestingly, the answer today is differant from April 17, 2001. :) |

17 | Living Prophets? | Bible general Archive 2 | Taleb | 109204
Paraclete, your claim that you know how Joseph Smith got the revelations and that you are thankful for them is either a contradiction, or, perhaps you REALLY don’t know “how he got them”. Given you the benefit of my doubt, IF you "know" about the 1823 book "View of the Hebrews" by Ethan Smith, from which the Mormon's first false prophet, Joseph Smith, "got some of his revelations", how does that tie in with Jesus using "parables" to teach truth and Smith using "parables" to teach blantant lies? 18 | can i pay my tithes to my mother? | 2 Cor 9:7 | Taleb | 109195
Tim, may I echo what Colin honestly wrote about your postings? He said, "As I read them, your posts are consistently thoughtful, scriptural and to the point. You are also a patient man ..." Anyway, I always read the Proverb for the day of the month, along with five Psalms according to that day and adding 30, plus some OT and some NT. While reading "today's" Proverb 13, YOU popped into my mind when I read verse 16. "This IS Tim Moran!" I checked it out in numerous translations and they ALL "fit you". I particularly loved the ones from “Contemporary English Version” – “Losing your temper is foolish, ignoring an insult is smart”. And “The Jerusalem Bible” “Every man of discretion acts by the light of knowledge, the fool parades his folly.” Blessings upon you, Tim Taleb |

Paraclete, your obvious Mormon stance caught my attention, what with some of my own family members adhere to that teaching. If you have access to a copy of “Divine Authenticity of the Book of Mormon” - Oct 15, 1850 Liverpool England, check out “Orson Pratt’s Works”. Please note “it”, in the following quote, refers to the book of Mormon. “If, after a rigid examination, IT be found imposition, IT should be extensively published to the world as such; the evidences and arguments upon which the imposture was detected, should be clearly and logically stated, that those who have sincerely yet unfortunately deceived, may perceive the nature of the deception, and be reclaimed, and that those who continue to publish the delusion, may be exposed and silenced, not by physical force, neither by persecutions, bare assertions, nor ridicule, but by strong and powerful arguments - by evidences adduced FROM SCRIPTURE and reason.” Capital letters mine for emphasis. The Mormon Church has made a published challenge to the world concerning the Book of Mormon. Number six states, “Other than a few grammatical corrections, you must have no changes in the text.” Considering there has been 4,000 corrections thus far … And let’s not forget the “translation of Egyptian. “The book of Abraham” where Joseph translated with NO knowledge of that language, has been translated by those who could and NOT ONE WORD did Joseph translate correctly. All the things that Joseph Smith lied about HAVE been found out. Historically, geographically, etc. science has disproved MOST of the Mormon writings extensively. Those facts are readily available. And with the results of the DNA testing on the various American Indians, past and present, DISPROVING any connection to the Jews, well, many Mormons are second quessing the authenticity of their faith's origin. I recognize that Mormons are not suppose to read any “anti-Mormon” literature, so, it is my prayer that true, and bold, believers in the complete and finished work of Jesus Christ, God’s ONLY, who know how to use the “Book of Mormon”, “Doctrines and Covenants”, “Pearl of Great Price” to win you to HIM, because from those very books, many have been lead into the freedom that comes through Jesus Christ’s TOTAL redemptive power. Steve, I truly appreciated your note. Far too often, many believe what they believe ONLY because they were told that's what it means, never reading for themseselves what it really says, or they fail to read the surrounding Scriptures to get the "whole picture". Peace, Taleb |
