The Word says that there is safety in many counselors, so I feel that I should pose this question to you. This is a question about a potential business transaction which also potentially has spiritual consequences. I am aware, in general, of what the Bible has to say about being unequally yoked with unbelievers, and what it also has to say about people in religions that do not acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord. I am also aware of the current antidiscrimination laws in effect and realize that they are not necessarily what I need to bow my knee to in this situation, even if they were applicable, though I do not think they are. But the situation that I am confronted with appears to be a gray area, and I need to get some educated and spiritually sensitive opinion about a range of situations, and then I will need to discern where my particular situation fits into that range. Imagine that you have a business, and there is a Moslem that wants to do business with you. Assume here that you maintain your current beliefs about Christianity. Consider the following situations, and comment on them as you see fit... Let us say that you want to form a partnership, and this Moslem appears to be the ideal person for it, except for his religion. Would you take him on as a partner? Or, let us say that you need financial backing, and the Moslem is willing to provide it for you, on your terms. Would you allow him to take a significant interest in your company in exchange for the financing? Same situation: If you were owner of a new a corporation, how much of a percentage of your stock would you be willing to sell him: 51 49 30 20 10 5 or 0? Why? What about if you were the owner of a major franchise restaurant chain, and the Moslem wanted to buy a franchise. Would you allow him to? Why? What about if you were CEO of a major manufacturing corporation, and you were in need of a vice-president of something or other, and the Moslem was the most qualified person. Would you hire him? Why? Same situation, but instead of a vice-president, all you need is a manager for your Purchasing Department. Now would you hire him? Why? What about if all you needed to do was to sell your car, and the Moslem had the highest offer of anyone that answered your ad in the paper. Would you sell it to him? What I am getting at here is the question of how close of a business relationship with someone from a different religion is permissible by the Bible, given what we know that it says? Thanks for your feedback and the time you spent answering these situations. TPK |
