1 | Wine Skins | Matt 9:17 | Steve TRWL | 159480 | ||
Hi there. This is my first post, and so if I miss out on some of the protocals, please forgive me, I'm still learning, and trying to do it fast, but .... Anyway I believe it is straight forward [ish]. Old wine skins become tough and inflexible, able to hold liquid, but somewhat leathery, and stiff. New wine still has the life and vitality of the grape in it, and quite literally pushes boundaries. Put life and energy into an old stiff container and the old suffers, especially if someone has tried to patch an old wine skin with a new patch, the seam just rips open, leaving wine all over the place. The analogy with the new life of Redemption seems to follow that. Stephen spoke of a stiff necked generation when dealing with those who couldn't/wouldn't grasp the reality of new life in Jesus in Acts 7:51, specifically resisting the Holy Spirit. I believe the application to today is simply that we need to lay down our own agendas, and learn to flow with the leading of the Holy Spirit, being flexible enough to acknowledge that He knows better than us, and will work all things together for good for those that love God - Romans 8:28. We, the wine skin, hold the Holy Spirit, the new wine, and and the life of the Spririt will push our boundaries of faith and obedience every day. If we resist, not only is the Holy Spirit restricted in our lives, we deny Him the use of our lives to touch others. Hope this helps, and again, if I've missed something in the way I've presented this, please accept my apologies now. Steve |
