1 | Questions on the Divine Nature | 2 Pet 1:4 | StJake | 96076
Just a quick note: not to invalidate your question at all, but this verse isn't intended to apply to communion, or at least isn't a direct reference to communion. "Partake" doesn't mean to consume or digest the divine nature; it means to be a partner in, a sharer of the divine nature. The root word it's derived from is "common". It means that we share with God a common divine nature [through the better-than-great and obtained-at-great-cost promises]. I also think that this verse relates to -but is probably not limited to- the following verses (2Peter 1:5- 1:7) where the final attainment of maturity for the christian is "charity", or agape, a selfless giving love. That, praise God, is the divine nature. |

Uhm, well, you don't _need_ them. I'm just adding notes about what I found interesting when I was studying the verse. For instance, in this verse, did you know that 'godliness' in this verse meant 'reverence/ respect toward God'? I didn't. I thought it meant 'God-likeness'. Do the notes bother you? Is this an improper thing to do on StudyBibleForum.com ? |

3 | Doesn't Revelation pose difficulties? | Bible general Archive 2 | StJake | 96069
"At that instant, the Bible made sense to me, ALL OF IT. There were no difficulties, no hard verses, no bending and twisting to explain." I am curious- there are many passages in Revelation that I would think would be difficult: Rev 8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. Rev 9:15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. Rev 9:16 And the number of the army of the horsemen [were] two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. Rev 11:3 And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth ... Rev 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. Rev 11:10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. Rev 11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. and the mark, the vials of Rev 16...? |

4 | Who will claim the reward? | Col 1:1 | StJake | 95961
What day to keep holy? How about EVERY DAY. I guess I fall into the "esteem every day" catagory. Thank you Jesus! Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day [alike]. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth [it] unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard [it]. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. |

5 | firstborn: prototokos | Col 1:15 | StJake | 95957
I checked, and you are correct, and I am definitely mistaken. I am *dreadfully sorry*. I did a word study on prototokos before, and i was recalling what I had learned when I made the comment. I obviously was looking at "protos" as a root of prototokos, then gotten confused and had mistakenly thought that cheif was prototokos instead of protos. I am not infallible, and was mistaken, not intentionally misleading anyone Thank you SO MUCH for your correction. All apologies in Christ- Jake
6 | firstborn: prototokos | Col 1:15 | StJake | 95952
The term "firstborn" is translated from the greek term "prototokos"- which does not mean here "created first", or "born first in time". It's the same word that Paul uses when he says in 1Tim 1:15, "...to save sinners; of whom I am chief". That term 'chief' is translated from the same word 'prototokos', so unless you believe that Paul was the first person to have ever sinned, don't interpret this passage to mean that Jesus was the 'first' creation of God. It means here to be first in rank, or highest in order: as in the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords, by whom and for whom all things are made (Col 1:16).
7 | Jesus Created or Creator??? | Rev 3:14 | StJake | 95949
Why do I "know" that Jesus is as much the Creator as is God? Well, John 1:1 in any reputable translation: Jhn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Here's a question to you: What does before all things mean to you? Also, for future reference: Col 1:15, the term "firstborn" is translated from the greek term "prototokos"- which does not mean "created first", or "born first in time". It's the same word that Paul uses when he says in 1Tim 1:15, "...to save sinners; of whom I am chief". That term 'chief' is translated from the same word 'prototokos', so unless you believe that Paul was the first person to have ever sinned, you're left with some pretty substantial cognitive dissonance. |

8 | Jesus Created or Creator??? | Rev 3:14 | StJake | 95948
"The beginning of the creation of God" does not mean 'the first thing that God created', it means that The Son is the person of God who began creation, creating all things (or equally creator with the other persons of God), i.e. Jhn 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. |

Although the greek word for "peace" has the expansive meaning listed in the Amplified text, one important sense is missing. Peace, or eirene (i-ray'-nay), is also peace between individuals, i.e. harmony, concord, [as restored through reconciliation].

Apostle: apostolos (ap-os'-tol-os) a delegate [A person authorized to act as representative for another; a deputy or an agent], messenger, one sent forth with orders Also, the Greek term for by/through here is EN, which is most commonly translated as "in" [AV- in 1902, by 163, through 39]. Peter is saying that our faith is " /in/ the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:". |
