1 | The Righteousness of Lot | 2 Pet 2:7 | SewSusan | 34198
Dear Makarious, Althought it is "ordinary for believers today no longer to be shocked by the rampant sin in their society", it doesn't mean we approve of it or aren't offended by it. Many Christians live in this world that is full of sin and immorality. That doesn't mean we take part in it or are not troubled by it. A lot of us have taken up arms against it. Many of us have children who deal with temptations we weren't faced with. That does alarm us. We try to teach them to be strong and stand against the temptations just as Lot tried to teach his family to stand strong against the temptations of Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes, we are troubled and tormented as our children leave us each day to face the world. We pray that God gives them the strength to say, "NO!", to drugs, gang members or drug dealers who threaten them, the desire to take things they don't have money for and so much more. We also pray for strength ourselves to keep teaching them over and over no matter how frustrated or afraid they get to tell us what is going on in their daily lives. We can only help them if they talk to us. We pray for the strength and courage to find out what frightens our children and stand up against it whether it be the gang members, or the drug dealers with intent to harm us or our children. Believers today may not be shocked by the rampant sin in our society, but we are not accepting it without standing up for ourselves and our children. We in our small way are attempting to get rid of some of the evils around us. It doesn't seem to be doing much good. However, there is one thing we can depend on. God will surely render judgement again and those who believe in Him and live accordingly will be safe from that judgement. I have pity on those who do not believe. |

2 | Feeling overwhelmed and need direction. | NT general Archive 1 | SewSusan | 34188
Dear Chynna, I feel your excitement and am delighted to have the privilege of sharing your joy. As a lay person who has been where you are (as a child) the only things I can suggest are that you open your heart and ears so you are open to God's voice, (He will guide you in your new life),and devote yourself to Bible study. If you don't feel comfortable with spreading God's word, spread the joy you feel. You will be surprised how catching it is. Other's will want to know what happend to you and will ask you. All you have to do is answer them. Respond according to the person who asks. Some people will accept your new found Christianity easily while others will be "turned off" by it, so you may have to tone down your excitement for them. Setting an example by your lifestyle is always a good start. Praise God and let Him know how you feel. Keep your heart and ears open to God and let Him lead you. Apparently you were called by Him. He may have a purpose designed especially for you, or he may use you in a simple way as He has me. Either way, keep the doors (your heart and ears) open so you'll know what his will is for you. He will guide you, so trust in Him. Love in Christ SewSusan |

3 | Taught of the Spirit today? | Rom 14:13 | SewSusan | 34184
Dear Love Fountain: I learned something very important. I learned from Matt 6:14 that I thought I already knew. I learned that I wasn't forgiving others as I should. I was saying it, but I wasn't really doing it. It was a tough lesson to learn and it saddened my heart. There are so many that I need to forgive that my list takes up two pages. No wonder my life hasn't been going so well lately. What did you learn? Love in Christ SewSusan |

4 | Does God always speak to you? | Heb 13:5 | SewSusan | 34179
Hi Nina, As a lay person my belief is that God is always speaking with us. Sometimes we don't hear Him because we may not want to hear what He has to say. There are times when I have not wanted to forgive someone, have been angry or hurt, or have simply wanted to go my own way. Those are the times I don't hear Him. |

5 | Insight on receiving the Holy Spirit | Acts 10:44 | SewSusan | 34175
Hi Shelly, I can only speak for myself as a lay person on this issue. I sincerely believe that God gives the Holy Spirit according to Acts: 5:32. I was a child of 9 when I was called by the Spirit. It was an awesome experience that gives me chills to this day. I was in Sunday School, singing "Come Into My Life Lord Jesus" when I heard someone call my name. Everyone else was singing. I alomost froze. My name was called again. I kept singing, but answerd from the inside. The voice responded by saying, "I'm here." I told my mom and we spoke to the preacher about it together. I was babtized three weeks later. Let me tell you, it had an impact on my life. In no way will my faith waiver. I will never doubt that there is a God, or that Jesus is the Son of God. I'm not a minister or preacher of any sort. I wasn't called for that purpose. My calling was a simple one...to be an example for others. I'm not perfect by any means. Sometimes I fail in my task. BUT, I never doubt that because Jesus died on the cross and paid the penalties for my sins past and present, I am assured of salvation. I have been doing some Bible study recently and have been reminded that we constantly have to be vigilant in our endeavors to be as Christ-like as possible. We must forgive others totally and completely as Christ would in order to receive forgiveness. Sometimes we forget that we have to forgive. We must also guard what we say. The Bible is full of scriptures about how our mouths and words can cause us to sin. I am constantly reminded that if I am to be an expample to others, I have to be on my guard always. As in all things, nothing is free. It doesn't matter how one is "Called by God". If you are "Called", you are given a great honor and an unbelievable responsibility. Love in Christ SewSusan |
