1 | Why choose Heaven | 1 Cor 12:3 | SMO | 153264
Hello askgod, Read 1 Corinthians 12:3 I believe that it is only by the workings of the Holy Spirit that i am a Christian today. If anyone asks me, i just say because the Holy Spirit encourged me to follow Jesus, and i accepted. Then if they say it's not good enough... read 1 Corinthians 12:3 to prove it and then pray that the Holy Spirit encourages them too. Because that's the only way they will understand. Not sure if that will help you in your study. God Bless. |

2 | Is santanism real? Spiritual World? | Eph 6:12 | SMO | 153262
Hello journey, If you read Ephesians 6:12... For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. I'm not entirely sure, but i beleive that witchcraft, satanism, wicca and all that are out there, but they are all governed by the same ruler, who is the devil. They are the devil's schemes, which are there to deceive people who arn't wearing the armor of God. When people get into those cults/religions, they are openly rejecting God altogether, so the devil can do anything he wants with them. However, i don't think these things are any worse than say, Buddhism for example. Because it follows the same principle; that it is there to deceive and mislead people. But yes, demons are real. Just as the angels in heaven are. However, we are given, as sons and daughters of God, authority over these powers of evil, as Jesus Christ promises (mat 10:1). The trickiest thing about the devil is that sometimes he makes these people believe that what they are practicing (such as witchcraft) is actually working... so the blindfold is pulled further over there eyes. So these things technically arn't true, because the devil devised them to be a distraction from God. |

3 | Thanks Doc, That was helpful. I don't kn | Matt 21:22 | SMO | 151912
Thanks Doc, That was helpful. I don't know the ways of the Lord, not well enough anyway. I think that is my main problem. I need to get closer to Him, to His heart. What i meant by His presence in my room while i pray, was His manifest presence. But again, God knows whats best; i dont doubt that, i just dont understand it. I'll continue to pray on it, but i cant help thinking about Jesus, and the disciples, and Paul etc... the miracles they performed (and the frequency)... how much more Godly must they be (Jesus obviously) than i am, and is it possible for me or ANYONE to be as close to God's heart as they. I've never met anyone that has been a vessel for God's Spirit to work miracles through like the new testament bible people. Is it just a matter of time? Of spending enough of my life following Christ and clothing myself in him? I've prayed to touch the heart of God, and im quite sure (as in the scriptures) that i can't achieve by works or good deeds... I think after all this thinking it boils down to this, 'i want more God, and i dont want to waste another second of my life without having as much of Him as possible'. I want a life were i can be like God's friend, talk to Him like He is my Father (which He certainly is), why do i have to wait for what God wants so badly with me? I know He loves me and His heart burns for me, we want the same thing there (my love for Him will never be as complete as His for me though). I want to dwell in His presence, in His glory. Im sorry if i offend anyone with what i say. Im pretty young, so i admit i need a lot more wisdom. Again, thanks for having the patience to read this. |

4 | (no short q. for what i have to say :-P) | Matt 21:22 | SMO | 151860
I have read all the postings about this verse, and all seem to make sense, but none click for me. Doesnt Jesus say, 21 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." I wish to highlight the word WILL, you 'WILL' receive whatever you ask for. It doesn't say, 'If you believe, whatever request you make will be put before God.' I also beleive this ties in closely with, 'God hears the prayer of a righteous man.' So my reasoning is, a prayer offered in righteousness WILL be answered. 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. Here i beleive the key phrase is 'so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.' When asking for things, think, 'will it bring glory to my God?' These are my thoughts, with this, it seems evident that Jesus is promising that my prayers will be answered, but why arn't they answered when i pray that God's presence fills my bedroom while im praying at night, or that my sick Grandmother is healed, or that i see the face of God and can have a converstaion with Him, or that a messenger is sent to my non-chrisitan girlfriend so that she will see and believe. All these things would bring SUCH glory to God! I KNOW that Jesus isn't a lier, and if he said those things, they are true, which means it can only be something wrong on my part... How do i gain more faith...? I was praying on this a few nights ago and a phrase came to my mind, 'How can i know the power of God if i don't know the heart of God.' That has been my strongest lead so far in solving this... Thanks if you've had the patience to read this long question... |

7 | Still Struggling with the meaning... | Matt 9:13 | SMO | 150206
I have still been struggling in pulling this verse apart. I can't see the real meaning behind, : 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' is that Jesus saying he wants mercy/compassion and not sacrifice? Or is that the question we must ask God? And what exactly is this 'sacrifice' that he mentions...? |

8 | Ive neva seen him this close to slipping | Ps 132:1 | SMO | 149864
I have a close friend who is also going through this same dilema, but seemingly far worse than i am... he says: yeh but I don't care, I don't care about anything. Nothing. Not even telling others about god. All I care is that I know God. I've always been like that. I dont even care if I'm a servant to other servants of God in heaven. I just want to be allowed into Gods thrown room to see him i don't care if he kills me after just one visit. I've never seen him this close to slipping in his faith... last year, whilst i had slipped from Christ, he was encouraging me, leading me back to God (despite my refusal). He isnt usually weak or mislead... any response to his comment? |

9 | S.M.O are my initials. and thanks for... | Ps 132:1 | SMO | 149849
S.M.O are my initials. and thanks for your reply. I mulled a few things over, and my last post did sound very self-centered. I still desire God to come to me like He did to Moses, or Elijah, and am wondering why He doesn't speak to us like that anymore... But i am content with God's amazing love and i can now TRUST in His wisdom, that anything He chooses is the best way. |

10 | How can i MEET God? | Ps 132:1 | SMO | 149699
This is a long and complex question. Let me start by saying, I want to be with God intimatly. I have learnt a lot about God. About were He's been, what He's done, what He's like... but i want to 'MEET' Him. My spirit has been in a lot of termoil over this for quite some time now because, using the terminology of Tommy Tenney(author of a book called 'God Chasers'), i can't seem to 'Catch' Him. This Psalm 132 (and 130) i feel reflects my situation... i am so so so hungry for God. Yesterday i planned of fasting until God came to me (in a manifest presence), to show him the determination of my spirit to meet Him. But when talking about it to my Mum (who i assume is wiser than me, being older, and a Christian herself), i felt shot down. She explained that it wasnt a good idea because God doesnt really care if we fast or not. She filled my head with doubt as to whether He would come or not... and so on... Im not saying my Mum was wrong, but maybe i should be. I have done a course at my Church called 'Shape', (S is Spiritual Gifts, H is Heart, A is Abilities, P is Personality, E is Experience), and learnt that (as i always knew) i am a very naive and gullable person, much to my dissadvantage... i cant seem to make up my mind about where i stand. As you can imagine, this has added to my distress.... I need help. Does anyone have any advice or a Word for me...??? |

11 | Is prayer more effective for the saved? | Is 59:1 | SMO | 149227
Interesting question mike, and very good answer lionheart. I have a question that follows up from that - what is meant then when it is said, (James 5:16) Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Is that saying that the more righteous someone is, the more likley God will answer their prayers? Thanks, SMO |

12 | mustard seed and the kindgom of heaven? | Matt 13:31 | SMO | 149132
What is the symbolism in the small mustard seed becoming a huge tree? Jesus compares it to the kingdom of heaven, so i suppose He is saying the kingdom of heaven will start out very small, but grow to be something magnificent? What is the point of this? Is He trying to say that we must be the ones to water the seed and care for it, or in the next parable, that we must work the yeast through the dough? |

13 | What does Galatians 1:1-2 mean | Gal 1:1 | SMO | 149131
I am not entirely sure which part specifically you are having trouble understanding, but Paul(the author) is stating his credentials (that is, what his position is). To my understanding he is saying, 'its not because of me or any other man that im an apostle, but its because Jesus apointed me this.' The second verse, 'and all the brothers with me...' is basically saying that this letter and message are from all Christian brothers. Hope this helps...
