2 | Shiloh again 1 Samuel 1:3 | Ps 132:7 | Retep | 154651
In haste, just going to work. I take the point about the postition of the lamp. The phrase in the NIV 3v3 "was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark was", made me think he was in with the ark, rather than near it. Have a good Monday, Peter |

3 | Shiloh again 1 Samuel 1:3 | Ps 132:7 | Retep | 154630
Dear Doc, Many thanks for the prayers and kind words. Humanly speaking it went well. Certainly I enjoyed looking into the material of the first 4 chpaters of 1 Samuel. Next week I have to present at a small gathering of older people on Sunday evening,so plan to use similar ideas. Eli and his boys were not good listeners, but the Lord always listens, and what an outcome for Hannah's prayer, the last of the judges! We need to be faithful and trust the Lord. Yours, Peter PS any thoughts about what Samuel was doing lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was? 1 Samuel 3:4. Thought in the tabernacle , no one was allowed was allowed that near. Peter. |

Dear Doc, Many thanks for your interest. Guess that's how I imagined it. I am doing presentation on those early parts of 1 Samuel tonight and briniging out themes on listening, that is the inadequate listoneing of Eli and his sons, and the wonderful listening of God. I read this morning in Psalm 38:9, "my sighing is not hidden from you".. so want to bring out how carefully God listens to us. Please pray fro His Word tonight in Bristol, UK, Peter |

5 | Shiloh again 1 Samuel 1:3 | Not Specified | Retep | 154600
Dear Doc, Not sure how to go into conversation with you on the website. I am in UK. What I was trying to imagine was, at that time, last of Judges, at Shiloh, was there still a Tabernacle, same materials as in desert wanderings? Did the Israelites travel for all the festivals? or just once a year? Would there be daily animal sacrifices, or just at special times? I realise some things we may not be told, but just thinking about the beginnings of Samuel's life and wondering how informal or formal things would have been there at Shiloh. Old tent and 3 priests and servants, or full ceremonial style place? Pete |
