1 | Romans14:1-8 Romans14-17 not conforming | Rom 14:1 | Preacher741 | 76554
Hi Sweet, I am not sure exactly what do you mean by reasons for not conforming, is that a title in your Bible? I do not have that particular phrase in the NIV. But I can give you a basic background of what the passage means. The first 2 verses explain the issue we are talking about, the matter of eating. Basically its how to bring unity in a church with strong and weak brothers. The strong brethren are the ones who can eat everything, the weak are the ones who must only eat vegetables or that approved by the TORAH, because this still disturbs their conscience. The unity is to be found in what is said in verse 17 that the Kingdom of God is not a mater of eatting, drinking, or observing the days for that matter but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (I did not direct quote) Yet if you as a stronger brother or sister does something that distresses your weaker brother or sister you must stop doing whatever it is. There are three primary conditions that we must observe in order to know if we are being a "stumbling block" to our brethren. One is if it is something that they can not do because it violates their conscience. Secondly and consequently if what we do violates thier conscience in such a manner that they participate in the action that violates thier conscience. Why do I say that it MUST acutally cause the weaker brother to participate in that which violates his conscience. Because that is the definition of a stumbling block or obstacle. Something that keeps the believer from walking in the right path of their conscience. I don't know if I have answered your specific question but this is the manner of the passage. Please reply if you want further explanation or want to reply your question in a differnt light. THanks. -J.C. |

2 | Is it proper to move the communion table | 1 Cor 11:20 | Preacher741 | 76426
Hi well its great to be concerned about things concerning communion but yet nothing in this passage is really dealing with the Table itself. We do not know the manner in which the Corinthians were eating the Lord's Supper in Chapter 11, it more likely have been a feast, since Paul accused them of not waiting for each other, and so several tables were present. There is not even a need for a communion table to be present its about what we remember, and the focus we have. If we don't examine ourselves we are in big trouble for we have sinned against the body and issue like this is not spoken about in scripture and the details of 1st century communion are even unclear. IT IS NOT IMPROPER TO MOVE THE TABLE.
