1 | For what does the woman or harlot stand? | Rev 17:1 | Pattycake | 214850
Someone asked me for what the woman in Revelation 17 and 18 represented? He wants to believe it is representative of the catholic church. I wanted to get some opinions about this.
2 | What would make this allogory? | 1 John 3:2 | Pattycake | 214164
Azure, I admire the depth of your research and hunger for learning about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and for studying His word. Watchman Nee was a godly man who lived in a different time and place from what we now live. It is unfortunate that Christianity has become so divisive sometimes that we forget the true mission of winning others. There are some Questions that remain unanswered about scripture that we won't understand until we get to heaven and that’s why I keep Proverbs 26:4-5 in the back of my mind to choose carefully which arguments, foolish or not, to get in to because they can be simple distractions. 2 Tim 2:23 says the same. If you notice PR 26:5 says there are times to get into these discussions, and you have done well in your refutation. As a young Bible college student 30 years ago, I found the Normal Christian Life and Nee's books on Prayer invaluable. Now, as a student and a teacher of all ages, I have found the writers that I glean the most from are those who use Scripture to illustrate Scripture. They will find a Biblical example to illustrate another verse. Those who are trained to recognize counterfeit money do NOT study counterfeit money. They study real money. They learn it so well that a counterfeit is easily recognized immediately. That’s why it is imperative to make sure you study the BIBLE primarily. Then carefully choose the resources thereafter. The cults will stand out obviously once you have studied the TRUTH of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit and God’s Word will lead you into all Truth. Choose an easy to read translation of Scripture, and read it until God says something to you individually. A good concordance is necessary to understand to original meanings of words in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. A good Bible dictionary helps and so does a Manners and customs of the Bible Book. Oswald Chambers wrote what has always become a favorite devotional with My Utmost for His Highest. Brother Lawrence in The Practice of the Presence of God, speaks of walking in the Holy Spirit with God. Your God is too Small by J B Phillips is great for realizing how huge our God is. Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur describes twelve women Jesus chose to use for His honor and glory. (Also Twelve Ordinary Men and Gospel According to Jesus) Vary the authors you read and always compare their authenticity with that of scriptural validity and accuracy. That includes secular and biblical. We can never take man’s word at face value even though we would like to. Rely on the Holy Spirit inside you, and the Bible before you to guide you. Here in the US we have a great evangelist who has grown old and is adored world-wide. There is no one in the US to take his place save his son: Billy and Franklin Graham. Many believe there are some in Asian countries ready to step up and fill in that void. You are blessed to part of an evangelistic explosion not seen in our country. It may be a brief window to get materials not ever available to you before. Grace to You with John MacArthur offers all lessons via MP3 downloads free of charge. 3 | Where is this Information Located? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214163
This is great information. May I ask where you learned or found this information? It is detailed and very insightful, but I would like to have a resource to fall back on for personal reasons not professional.
4 | Does Hebrew tradition explain folded? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214158
Can you confirm this with authority? Do you know this to be true from tradition, historical record, manners and customs, personal exposure to Hebrew practices? I do not want to teach this as fact from a simple email I have received. It is a wonderful thought and the verse has glorious meaning for me, and I believe you, but I believe we must back things up for an unbelieving world so that they too can believe with a certain foundation. A fascinating fact as well would be that the rest of the garments were tossed aside. Our Savior was THROUGH with DEATH and Hell. He no longer had to deal with them and neither do we! He had paid the price. As far as we are concerned, He folded that napkin... He shall return... so we must lift up our heads... now more than ever 3/3/09..OUR REDEMPTION DRAWS NEAR! Be sure that you are saved… Be ready at any minute… Be diligent about growing in the faith… Be about the Father’s business of sharing the Truth to all you see… Blessings Angela |

5 | Does Hebrew tradition explain folded? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214154
I usually study scripture with scripture, but I was wondering if anyone knew particularly about this tradition and how that custom may have intertwined with scripture's detail. Thanks for your response. Angela |

6 | Why did Jesus fold His burial napkin? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214150
I am trying to confirm this through SBF but I read this recently in an email. I do not want to use it until it is verified however. Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection? Why did He take the time to even bother? Why was a portion of Scripture even dedicated to a seemingly trivial action? I never noticed this.... The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin. Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!' Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple out ran Peter and got there first. He stopped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side. Was that important? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes! In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished. Now if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done'. But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because..........The folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!' He is Coming Back! |

7 | Why did Jesus fold His Napkin/Facecloth? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214148
What was the significance of Jesus folding His Kerchief or facecloth? I have heard that it because it was according to Hebrew custom when eating a meal. When the Master of the meal was finished he tossed his napkin on the table to indicate that he was finished so the servants could eat. If he planned to return, he folded his napkin. Does anyone have any other suggestions or can they validate this explanation?
8 | Soul winning scriptures | Mark 16:15 | Pattycake | 213963
2 Rom 10:15 says “How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, ‘HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!’" Many people approach soul winning in a brass, hard nose way. I do not see Jesus winning folks that way. The only people with whom Jesus was harsh were the unrepentant, holier-than-thou Pharisees, Sadducees, and perverters of truth. He would rather we would lovingly stumble through an accurate presentation of the gospel than to harshly and brazenly turn someone away with it. He calls and does not force anyone to Himself. Neither does Paul. He was very brash and hard as an enemy of Christians, but as a believer this verse indicates he softens his tone. He says we must go tell and calls our feet BEAUTIFUL. Do the people we encounter smell a pleasant aroma when we leave? Do they feel the love of Christ once they know us and know Jesus loves them because we have loved them? I know the Romans road, and graduated from the fastest growing evangelical University in the US, but I am an ambassador for Jesus Christ. I am here to win people for Him. There are people who will reject Him. They may appear to reject me, but ultimately they are rejecting Him and his Word. I never want them to reject Christ because I did not love them with the love of Christ or because I had poor discernment and pushed them away. People are looking for something to fill the God-shaped void in their soul. It is my responsibility no matter my age to help them find which part of John 14:6 Jesus can fill. Are they lost? Yes. They need the WAY. Do they believe lies? Yes. He is the Truth. Are they dying in their sin? Yes. He is Life eternal. Let us show them the Way, the Truth and the Life. There is no other way to get to heaven except through Jesus. A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down much easier. |

9 | Reason 4 "6" Cities of Refuge? | Num 35:6 | Pattycake | 213962
Thanks MJH, That is great information. These are authors I already know, love and appreciate their Biblical teachings and values. Sometimes we have to put the student in the place of those biblical counterparts in order to understand the nature of what was going on in their worlds and exactly how much they had to suffer for our Saviour. Complacency is all around in our Christian world and churches. It is one thing to wear a cross and another to bear it. My premise for this teaching in Mark is when Jesus asks the disciples to leave their Mothers, Fathers and everything behind to follow Him. What are some other things or people they may have had to leave behind? From studying the life of Mary and Joseph recently, I assumed most young men pursued marriage very young. I need to check it out more thoroughly. Thanks for that challenge too. I should never be that busy to dig a little deeper. Be blessed Angela |

10 | Reason 4 "6" Cities of Refuge? | Num 35:6 | Pattycake | 213945
Thank you for being so well versed in the OT and its History. Working with children I only venture into the highlights and that is only to my detriment. There is a whole world of insight I am missing. Scripture had a treasure to offer, and many of us miss the hidden mysteries that God has for us. It is like honey and gold like the Psalms and Proverbs promise. Thank you. Angela |

11 | Reason 4 "6" Cities of Refuge? | Num 35:6 | Pattycake | 213943
You have confirmed what I thought was the truth about the cities, but sometimes in scripture numbers have a meaning or significance. For example 7 signifies perfection or completion. Were there 2 tribes assigned to each city? Or did that even apply during the "Judges" period? You are always a great help especailly in Jewish tradition. Are you aware of a book or books that is a good reference for manners and customs of the Bible? I usually work with children, but I have a group of ladies with whom I am teaching English through the Book of Mark. I want them to put themselves into the wives' positions as the disciples were called out by Jesus, and asked to leave all behind including there "jobs". What did the typical wife do in those family and how would she have responded? Be blessed by our Father and Shalom my friend, Angela |

12 | Reason 4 "6" Cities of Refuge? | Num 35:6 | Pattycake | 213940
Is there a Numerical significance in 6 for this verse? Was there a reason there were SIX cities of refuge. Can someone clarify what exactly the cities were for? I believe I understand, but I would appreciate a simple clarification. |

14 | Resource for Bible Manners n Customes | Not Specified | Pattycake | 213523
I am looking for the best resource on manners and customs to have available for my teaching. I wish to be accurate in all I say and do. Presently the study is in Mark and on the fishermen or disciples. I wanted to know their regular routine, perhaps what their family life was like if they were marrried, etc. What did it actually cost them to follow Jesus? Does anyone have a recommendation?
