1 | Hearing and believing only required? | John 5:24 | PastorScott | 90477
Look at what John 3:16 says, the word translated beleives or beleiveth is the same Greek word (the language that the bible was written in)that is used in John 2:24 translated as entrust or commit. Salvation comes by hearing the word of God. What was Jesus' message, it was repent and place your trust in me to bring you salvation. Salvation comes not by what we do but by what Jesus did. When we place our trust in him to save us we are trusting in his sacrifice to completly pay for (atone for) our sins. When someone truly places their eternal life in Jesus' hands to save them he does the work not us Ehp 2:8. Because we did nothing to earn salvation (we simply trusted that Christ has done the work) we can not do anything to lose it. If our salvation is dependent on anything we had to do after we trust in Christ's work on the cross, then we are not saved "by grace" as it says in Ephesians 2:8. If we have to do anything to keep our salvation than we have a part in whether or not we get to heaven which would mean we earned it no matter how small it was. If we earned it than we can boast in what we have accomplished which is just the opposite of what Paul says in Ephesians 2:8. Christ paid for all of our sins on the cross he took 100 percent of God's judgement for the sin of those who beleive in him. That is why there is no more condemnation for those in Christ Jesus because the price has been paid in full, your sins, past, present ans future died with him on the cross. For those who have trusted in him our salvation is so sure that the bible speaks of it as if we already had it. I hope this helps. keep studying! |

2 | Is exploring space considered a sin? | Rom 1:20 | PastorScott | 90475
The Bible says that God's very nature is revealed to us through his creation. No it is not a sin to explore space as long as our exploration leads us to a deeper appreciation for the God who created the stars and put them in our place. As far as scientific research; it seems to me that since God is the author and creator of all that is around us he is also the master scientist. He made the first chemical bonds, he created water and light and all biology. Since he created everything science will point to him as creator. So scientific research is really the study of God's creation.
3 | who were Noah's parents? | Gen 5:1 | PastorScott | 90473
Genesis5:31 says that Noah's father was Lamech. It does not say who his mother was.
4 | Where did Cain's wife come from? | Gen 5:1 | PastorScott | 90472
Notice that the geneologies in Genesis 5:1-32 only list the males that were born. It does not list the females. Adam and Eve had to have had girls as well as boys. Cain married his sister! |

5 | When will Christ come in Kingdom Power? | Mark 9:1 | PastorScott | 44373
I am pretty sure that Mark 9:1 is a reference to what takes place in Acts Chapter 2 when the Holy Spirit comes in power. Act 1:8 "And ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you" We must not fall into the trap of thinking Anthropocentrically. Although Christ has not come in power to bring his earthly kingdom into existance yet, he has defeated the "prince of the power of the air"(Satan) and he has been raised up by God "above all names that are named both in heaven and in earth" In the spiritual sense this "kingdom power" came at the coming of the Holy Spirit. Satan is the only real enemy(his name means adversary) not man, and he is defeated. Hope this helps! |

7 | God forgive no matter what | 2 Cor 5:8 | PastorScott | 44366
The short answer is Yes. This does not mean that we can "Sin that grace may abound Rom 6) The fact is that someone who is truly a beleiver will not continue in sin. Read this: Matthew 18:21-22: 21Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. This verse does not mean that there is a limit upon how many times we can be forgivin. 70 times 7 was in that time a meaning of infinity. Ther is no limit to God's Grace. Also remember that Christ died once for all sin(Read Colossians 2). When he died on the cross all of our sins were future, he paid for them all in his death. So in a sense he only has to forgive you once. All sins you commit after that have already been paid for. This does not mean we can just go on sinning b/c if we are new creatures sin is just not who we are anymore! A true beleiver will sin as long as he is in this mortal body, but as a true beleiver he has the holy spirit in his/her life to give them power over sin and give them a desire to serve God out of a response for what he has done for them. They won't live in sin b/c they are new creatures. I hope this helps! Try Reading the whole book of Romans in one sitting(take about 45 min) Ask the Holy Spirit the help you understand what Paul is saying here. He deals directly with your question! Keep Studying! 8 | eternal security | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 43400
Scribe, I have been following the progression of your question and subsequent answers and feel that there is a a major soteriological misunderstanding of the work of Christ on the cross. To begin I would like to draw your attention to several verses in Colossian Chapter Two. But first let me preface this by saying that Jewish tradition held that God kept a written record or handwritting of all violations to his law. This was done because God is just and no matter how great his love for us, justice must always be served. In light of this fact look at this scripture about what Jesus did with his death on the cross. 14having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. The Holy Bible, New King James Version, (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, Inc.) 1982. In the orginal language the word for wiped-away literaly means to "remove, destroy, or obliterate" This means that the record of all of our sin is removed. But removed from where? "taken out of the way" the word "way" leteraly means "midst, middle, or center" It is the same word that is used in Rev 4:6;5:6;7:17 in the expression "misdt of the throne" that refers to the area before the throne of God. Christ litteraly has taken all record of our sin or the "handwritting against us" and has romoved them from the presence of God and has "nailed them to the cross". We can see that this action "disarmed" the pricipalities and powers (references to fallen Angels)who were aparently using this written record against humans before. We know that Satan is the accuser, he continueally accuses the brethren. But according to this verse the evidence is gone. I say all this to ask you. How many on your sins and mine were in the fuure at the time Christ paid for them? The answer is all. So at the moment of repentence when one first accepts the free gift of salvation, all that persons sins are "taken out of the way" a transaction is made, Christ took upon himself our guilty record and he gave us his life which is a perfect law abiding record. Therefore God views us as holy, not as a result of what we have done but what Christ has done.He died to give us a new life, not a new list! If we are saved through no effort of our own, only by faith, and if we can't earn our way than why do we think we can earn our keep? "As ye therefore have received Christ so walk ye in him". This is the "good news" of the Gospel. If we are truly to say that we can do nothing to earn our salvation, than a logical conclusion would be that we cannot loose it. We therefore must say that there is nothing required of a person after geniune converstion. All the work has been done. However, this does NOT mean that we can do whatever we want and continue in a life of sin. At Salvation God makes us new creatures, we are not what we used to be, when we sin we are acting in opposition to who we are. B/c of this change a true beleiver WILL be different b/c it will be God doing the changeing. There are times however where we rebel against our new master(God) and retern to our old master (satan) and obey him even though we are not his anymore. This is what was happening with the beleivers at Corinth. They WERE beleivers as Paul says yet still they were living in sin and partaking of the Lords table. Note this verse: 1 Cor 11:28-30 28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. The Holy Bible, New King James Version, (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, Inc.) 1982. "For this reason some of you sleep". Remember Paul say that these were beleivers yet God was chastising their sin by making them sick, or even bring ing them home. "some of you sleep" They didn't loose their salvation just their effectivness, therefore God brought them home. The sin of porography is terrible and destructive, it poisins the mind and the heart, and used as a tool of Satan to rob young men and women of God glorifing sex in marriage. The consequence of sin are paid for by us here on earth. But the penilty for sin has been paid for by Jesus. To say that a true Christian will go to hell for his or her sin is saying that the price Jesus paid is lacking. Will a true beliver continue in sin, live like hell and go to heaven? Not for long, b/c he will either be too convited by the Holy Spirit or he will be taken out of this earth b/c he is unaffective for Christ. |

9 | What is a perpetual covenant | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 42668
A perpetual covenant is an unending covenent that has to be given by God. It is one-party covenent that that is totally 100 percent dependent upon God. Man cannot make this covenent b/c man is not always dependable to fulfill the requirments of the covenent. For example God told Noah that he would never destroy the earth through flood again. This will be true forever. Usually a covenent made by made is voided after that man dies. Because God is eternal the covenents he makes last eternally. Thus they are perpetual. In this particular instance God is making a covenent with Israel that will be eternal and will signify God's commitment to them (Read my Answer regarding Sabbath)This covenant is still in effect today even though Israel has rejected their Messiah. Notice that the Isrelites never kept the whole sabbath (i.e. the sabbath year)but God worked it out that for every year that they didn't keep the sabbath year they were in dispersed and taken out of their land to Babylon and Persia! God will alway find a way Hope this helps! |

10 | heaven or resurrection of the dead | Is 26:19 | PastorScott | 42663
This is not a contradiction is is a misunderstanding of what happens at death. Charis has it right. When we die our spirit is immediatly with God. However we are bodyless, our bodies are reunited with us later. 6For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. Jesus said to the theaf on the cross "today you will be with me in paradise". But Christ is the first one to have been resurrected. 1 Cor 15 20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. Christ is the firstfruit of the resurrection he is the first to have a new body. Notice the verse: Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Notice "together with my dead body shall they arise" This verse is a prohecy speaking of what would happen b/c of the resurrection of Jesus. Resurrection is different from our spirit being with God. Hope this helps |

11 | and the earth shall cast out the dead. | Is 26:19 | PastorScott | 42661
This verse is a propecy regarding the ressurection of the dead. When a beleiver dies his spirit goes immediatly to be with God. However he does not receive his resurected body until after this: 1 Thess. chapter 4 6For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. This verse indicates that those who are dead in Christ shall rise. Their spirit is already with God Jesus said "Today you shall be with me in paradise" to the theaf on the cross, however those spirits are bodyless until what happens in 1 Thess 4. Mores specificaly this regarding this verse it is important to know that Jesus Christ had the first ressurected body. He was the first one to conquer death. Because he has been resurrected we have the hope of being resurrected. Look at this verse: 20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. Christ is the firstfruits of the resurrection he lead the way of the resurrection being the firt to arise with a resurrected body. That is why it says: Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. From what I understand. This verse is one of hope and longing for that day of resurrection! Hope this helps! Keep studying! |

12 | what are this stones? | Gen 2:12 | PastorScott | 42571
To answer your question about Adam I would say you need to read the book "New Nature" by Renold Showers. In it he explains that Adam was created with a positive disposition(or relationship) with God. However, this relationship was not permenent b/c Adam didn't choose it. Therefore to make his relationship with God permanent, God had to give Adam opportunity to obey God. So God gave Adam a stipulation that he must not eat for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam willingly chose to disobey God and obey Satan putting him in a permanent disfavorable dispostion to God and making him a servant of Satan. B/c Adam was the head of the race and the governor in a sense of the world he put the entire race and the earth itself under Satans control. That is why the bible says: "for by one man sin entererd the world and death through sin" That is also why the bible calles Satan, "the prince of the power of the air" Satan is currently the ruler of this world. That is why He could offer the kingdoms of the world to Jesus at the Temptation in the wilderness. If Adam had not eaten the fruit of the tree, we could infer(although the bible doesn't say it)that he would have been permenatly sealed in hid favorable disposition to God. He would have chosen God as the LORD to follow instead of choosing Satan. Another great book to read that will transform the way you look at history is "What in the World is God doing by Reynold Showers" It will explain so many things like the question you asked. You can buy both of these books a Amazon for really cheap. I would read the latter book first, then the NEW NATURE one I already told you about. Keep Studying! |

13 | Are we expected to keep the sabath? | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 42229
The word sabbath is derived from the Hebrew word sebbat which means rest. The command to keep the sabbath and keep it holy was given to the Isaelites by Moses for 3 purposes. 1) As a reminder that God has given them rest from the work(slavery)that they had in Egypt. 2) Sabbath was not only one day a week it also was once every seventh year where the Israelites had to leave the land fallow or unplanted. This was called a sabbath year. This was a reminder that the Promiseland that God had given them still belonged to God b/c they belonged to God. 3) The sabbath rest was looking forward toward the future when the Israelites would no longer have to do the works of the Law (which Moses had given at Sinani). This was looking forward to the work that Jesus would do. He said "I am Lord of the sabbath" When Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life he accomplishe the work no one else could do. When he said "It is finished" he was refering to the work of paying for our sins. Now that he is in Heaven he has "sat down at the right hand of the father" this represents that the work has been done. Read Hebrews Ch 3-5. Jesus has come to give us REST. He is our sabbath rest. The pupose of the sabbath was Past(Egypt) Present (The Lord is our God) and future (Jesus is our rest). Now that we are in Christ we have ceased from our labors, that is why the gospel is good news! Another point is this. The sabbath day in the Old Testiment is really on Saturday, we Christians have traditionally celebrated it on Sunday b/c that is the day that Christ arose. There is no biblical support to say that Sunday has to be a day of rest or that we must go to church on Sunday or shouldn't work on Sunday. I am a Pastor Suday is by biggest work day! Read Romans 14:5-6 For the Christian EVERY day is the Lords day!!! Every day is a day of rest b/c Christ has given us rest by doing all the work for us!! It is finished!!! Jesus is Lord!!! |

14 | Did Satan know God's plan for salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 42220
You make a good point. Satan did try to kill Jesus, but he could not have know when his time was in order to kill him before it. We must not give Satan too much credit. He is a created angelic being and has limitations. 1 Peter Chapter one says that the mystery of the gospel and the coming of the Holy Spirit is something that the angels desire to "Look into". The angels didn't know of God's plan before he revealed it, how would Satan? Satan and the other fallen angels did know that Jesus was the son of God. They could have made and educated guess, but do you think that Satan would have inspired the Jews againts Jesus to have him crucified if he knew that it was part of his redemptive plan all along? Do you think that Satan would inhabit Judus and betray Jesus if he knew his actions would result in his death blow? Here are some verses to look at: 1 Corinthians 2:7 "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory". (In context of Salvations plan) Colossians 1:26 "Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints". (Again speaking of Salvation) Romans 16:25 "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began". 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." Satan is powerful, and cunning no doubt but he is still just a fallen angel, he has no power that God has not allowed him to have. I hope that you will continue to study and remember like the church of Berea we are to "study to see if these things are true" Don't listen to what I think, or my opinions only listen to the Word of God. God Bless |

15 | Will we be forgiven only so many times? | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 41682
The verse you are looking for is in Matthew 18:21-22: 21Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 16 | Show in the Bible once saved always | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 41681
The best answer that I have for this question is found in Ephesians "For by grace are you saved through faith, and yet not of yourselves it is the gift of God lest any man should boast" We did nothing to earn salvation it was a gift that came through faith. Salvation is totally dependent upon Christ's work on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. To say that we can lose our salvation would be to say that his payment for our sin was not enough and that his righteousness was not enough. If this was true salvation would be dependent upon our works and what we do not on what God has done! That is not the good news of the gospel! The good new is that Jesus paid it all. Read Colossians Chapter 2. Vs 8 tells us how we should live. vs 13 tells us what Jesus' death did. God's purpose throughout history has been to glorify himself. Ephesiand 2 says that we are examples of his grace and his glory. Why would he want to share his glory with someone else. If our salvation is depentent in any way on our actions than it is not a gift, we earn it, or we do not earn it. That's all. I would suggest you do some study on the Abrahamic covenent in Gen 12-17. It will shed some light upon the type of promise God has made to us (One party covenent) Keep Studying! Pastor s |

17 | Did Satan know God's plan for salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | PastorScott | 41620
Satan was a angelic being created by God.B/C of this he is not equal with God. Only God is omniciant he is the only one who knows everything. Satan Knows scripture that has been given,(he quoted it to Jesus at the temptation) but salvation through the cross by grace was called by Paul a "Mystery". Jesus even said to the diciples that he would die and rise again and they didn't get it. I hope this helps. Keep studying the scriptures

19 | Judas betraying Jesus? | Matt 26:1 | PastorScott | 41612
Jesus did Know that Judus would betray him. One passage is found in John 6:63-65: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. A few verses later Jesus clarifies who he was talking about: 70Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. |
