1 | Was Jehoiachin 8 or 18 as king? | 2 Kin 24:8 | PJC | 182918
Dear Friend in Christ: I am not "picking" on portions of the Bible. I teach Bible study and a student came up and showed me these two verses in the Bible. I searched many other versions and some have 18 years in both places. I would pray that someone else will have a better answer than "copyist error." |

4 | Jacob/Israel Name interchanged in Gen. | Gen 32:28 | PJC | 156819
Thank you Makarios for the information but I do know all those things. My question is why do the scriptures use Jacob/Israel interchangeably? It cannot be to identify him for the reader as the names change occurs even within sentences. I looked up all scriptures where this occurs in the Hebrew text and it also changes the names for some reason. Everything in the Word of God is placed for a reason. I still have the question! PJC |

10 | Was Melchizedek Jesus? | Genesis | PJC | 79891
Hebrews 7:1-7 Melchizedek is such an interesting Bible character. Heb.7 v.1 "king of Salem" - a king Heb.7 v.1 "priest of the Most High God" - a priest Heb.7 v.3 "without genealogy, neither beginning of days or end of life" - his birth, life and death were not recorded or witnessed. (That does NOT mean he was not born, just that those things weren't available.) Also he didn't reflect the latter qualifications for priesthood by having to be from the sons of Levi. (v.5) Heb.7 v.3 "made like the Son of God" - foreshadowing Jesus (who by the way was Prophet, Priest and King) Heb.7 v.4 "Now observe how great this MAN was" - he was a real man, not a legend. Heb.7 v.5 "in the law collected a tenth from the people" - Foreshadowed the Levites because in v.2 Abraham apportioned a tenth of all the spoils to Melchizedek. Melchizedek certainly was a foreshadow of Christ and came before the Levitical priesthood. First mentioned in Genesis 14:18-20. Gen.14 v.18 Melchizedek brought out bread and wine. How much more illustrative can the Word be? Pray this encourages your study! PJC |

11 | Should we choose our words carefully? | Eccl 5:2 | PJC | 79890
Eccl 5:2 Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. (NASB) Has anyone ever pondered on this verse? It seems in Ecclesiates a "teacher" who is talking to a disciple on the realities of the world. This bit of advice may be what the teacher is telling the disciple to do. We are all disciples of our Lord and I regard this advice as counsel to all of us. Does this come across to instruct us to be aware of His holiness and to wise with our petitions, not using redundancy (Matt.6:7), or just not to be too wordy as we are warned in Proverbs 10:19 ("when there are many words, transgression is unadvoidable"). Can anyone contribute to this dialog? In His Name, PJC |

12 | Genesis 4:17 | OT general | PJC | 79091
Cains wife was his sister. The Bible tells us that Adam and Eve were the first to be created. All other men and women were from them. Cain went out from his parents and did indeed marry a sister living away from them. (Remember, the fall of man had just begun and intermarriage among family was not forbidden.)Adam lived 930 years so he and Eve must have had a lot of children! Think about the multiplier on this. At minimum, 1 child every 2 years they would have had 465 children, possibly more. May God give you discernment as you search His Word. PJC |

13 | Searching for the truth | NT general Archive 1 | PJC | 78498
On THE judgement day (Rev.) when Christ comes back to earth, those who are unbelievers will be judged for their sins. On the other hand, those who believe are not part of this judgement. They are in heaven and they are given rewards. Sorry I haven't given Scripture references to all these but I wanted to give you some direction on this. Search the Scriptures for judgement and rewards and you will discover what God has in store for all. Pray this helps. PJC |

14 | Jewish regathering completed. | Not Specified | PJC | 78494
There is a popular belief that the Jews need to return to Israel, or regather. According to Scripture, has not that already happened? I understand that God has already fulfilled most of His promises to Israel. Why do so many people think that in the middle east conflict Israel has to completely occupy all of the traditional land that God set aside for them in Genesis? Any copmments? PJC |

17 | Why was Christ baptized? | NT general Archive 1 | PJC | 78454
Read Matthew 3:15 This is a good question. Look at what the purpose of baptism really is. Through context and word studies it means to be IDENTIFIED with Him. When we are baptized we identify ourselves with Jesus. Jesus was identifying Himself with God. [Please note: Don't confuse recieving the Holy Spirit and baptism as being the same time. We receive the Holy Spirit upon our belief in Christ. Out baptism demonstrates our identification with Him.] Matthew 3:13 Jesus told John the Baptist to baptize Him. Why? To fulfill all righteousness. What was that righteousness? It was prophecied in the Old Testament. Here are some out takes… Jeremiah 31:33 Prophecied that the new covenant God would write His law on our hearts whereas before they were written on tablets of stone. This new covenant that we are under, since Jesus died for our sins, is different in that respect. God is working inside our hearts with the Holy Spirit. Psalm 37:31 Law of God written in his heart… Psalm 40:7-8 Jesus was to do the will of God. His Law is written in my heart. Isaiah 51:7 A people whose heart is My Law. Matthew 5:16 Jesus recieves the Spirit of God. Mark 1:1012 The Spirit came upon Jesus and Jesus began His earthly ministry just the same way when we come to belief and faith in Jesus the Holy Spirit begins to guide us into all truth. We begin the ministry that God has set apart for us. Most of the things that Jesus did in the New Testament was foretold in the Old Testament. Jesus was being obedient to His Father. God said He was well-pleased with Him. Pray this helps. PJC |

18 | ARE ALL ANGELS MEN ? | NT general Archive 1 | PJC | 78453
Angels came in the form of men. Genesis 19:1-4 Lot calls the angels "my lords." Jude 1:9 Michael the archangel. (Man's name) Rev. 12:7 Michael and his angels… Genesis 18 Abraham and Sarah visited by angels who appeared as "men." So as you read over these Scriptures you will see when the messengers, angles, came to deliver messages, they often appeared as men—never women in the Bible. Pray this helps. PJC |

19 | Ideas Urgent | NT general Archive 1 | PJC | 78452
petethemete: How about posting your bio information so all who are answering can know some more about you? God reveals Himself through His Word. That is why He gave it to us. Dead men did not write the Bible but the living God did. You must remember, God is infinately greater than you or I can comprehend nor is He a "man" that we can see Him physically. Read John…over and over and you will see a testimony of our God who came to earth and became flesh. Continue in devoting time to the Bible in study, not just casually reading it but out and out study. Check out the cross references so you can grasp the entire counsel of God. Scripture is the best interpreter of Scripture. Ask God to open your eyes and heart and increase your desire for His Word. You will soon find, my friend, that you can serve the One you cannot physically see but you will know Him oh-so-much by seeing Him working in your life! Pray this helps. PJC |
