5 | Grace vs Works? | James 1:22 | Morant61 | 242534
Greetings Rikbrooks! Welcome back brother! The short answer to your question is that a transformed life is evidence of salvation. You are correct! No one is saved by being good enough, or by working hard enough. However, Eph. 2:10 also points out that we are saved for good works. That is the distinction that James is making in his letter. Groups were claiming to have faith, but there was no evidence of that faith in the way that they were living their lives. James said: Jas 2:18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. As we used to say, the proof is in the pudding! I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

6 | More experienced translators needed... | 2 Pet 3:10 | Morant61 | 242518
Greetings Vamite! I saw your question. This certainly is a challenging verse on many levels. As to your translation, I would stick with the traditional translation for the following reasons: 1) In what sense would the heavens 'come near' or 'pass by'? They are already present. 2) The context of the passage seems to favor the traditional translation of 'pass away', for the following reasons: a) Verse 10 states that the elements will be destroyed by fire. b) Verse 11 mentions everything being destroyed. c) Verse 12 states that everything will be destroyed by fire and the elements dissolved with fervent heat. So, the tradition sense of 'destroyed' seems to fit the context. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

7 | Islam the religion that hates Christians | Luke 6:28 | Morant61 | 242025
Greetings Doc! Sorry for the delay in responding my friend! I have been swamped lately due to work and weather. :) I just had a similar conversation with someone the other day. It is a difficult question, but here is a simplistic answer to it. I try to divide my response into an individual and a corporate approach. As an individual, in accordance with the Sermon on the Mount, I have an obligation to love, pray for, and minister to my enemies. (Matt. 5:38-48) Rom 12:19 Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Rom 12:20 Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head. Rom 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. The only way we are going to reach those who are enemies of the cross is to love them unconditionally and sincerely. Now, on a corporate level, our nation has an obligation to protect the innocent. So, military action may be required. I understand that, for many, this is a very emotional issue. But, we need to remember that the only Christ many of these individuals will ever see is the Christ modeled by and through us. No matter the intentions of our 'enemies', they are not in control. God is! God loves them, and died for them. How can we not demonstrate His love to them? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

10 | What does John 15:7 mean? | John 15:7 | Morant61 | 240871
Greetings Dee! I am truly sorry about your loss! I too lost a child many years ago, even though my wife and I prayed for his healing. In response to your question, I would make a couple of points. 1) Context: This specific promise is made to the disciples. I am not sure that it can be expanded to include every believer. However, there is a similar promise in 1 John 5:14-15: "And this is the confidence that we have before him: that whenever we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (15) And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him." Here we are given a similar promise that applies to all Christians. However, it is made clear that our requests must be in accordance with His will. Even Jesus, when praying in the garden, prayed a prayer that was not answered because it wasn't God's will for Him to be delivered from the cross. Sometimes, God's will for our loved ones is different than our will. 2) Faith: One of the keys things that we learn as we mature as Christians is that we can trust God to do the right thing. I don't know why our children were not healed, but I know God and trust Him. I hope this helps! You and your family are in our prayers! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

20 | did we exist before being borne on earth | Bible general Archive 4 | Morant61 | 238844
Greetings Doc! Great answer! I too tend to lean toward traducianism rather than Creationism. It better explains how human beings come into existence. It better explains how every human being is born with a sin nature. It fits better with the view that we are living souls, not that we have souls. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
