2 | who are Pharasees and why the questions | John 1:21 | Mary Ann D | 221011
If I were to have a true desire to adhear to God's Word, then I pray God will let me see through corrupt leaders such as the Sadducees and Pharisees so that I don't fall from the direct path to God in Jesus. These people didn't seem to phase John at all. Thank You for your response.
3 | Fig tree meaning? son of man meaning? | John 1:50 | Mary Ann D | 220939
What if anything am I suposed to know about a fig tree when I read this passage. Is it a place that no one would know that you were there other than God or Christ? What about this is to spur Nathanael to have faith, and more importantly, the reader who strives for faith. I feel like the fig tree is the body of the son of man, because in the next verse Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." Can some one tell me what is the distinct difference between the son of man and the son of God. Is Jesus talking about just one man? or all of the people in the whole world? or just all the people who worship the flesh but feel very bad about it because it is a sin and want to get rid of their sin? I heard that the church is the body of christ in the common desire to glorify God. If the church is the body of Christ then is the rest of the people the body of man? I feel confused. Jesus says this in a way that body of man is not a bad thing but a good thing because he said to nathanael he will see the heavens open in the son of man. I think man is one who aspires to know Christ. and those who do not are like no better than the animals and do not go with the body of man and are not called men in terms of what the words mean. I apologige for the last two questions i posted that were near duplicates of pervious questions. I didn't know that if I scroll down I would see other people's similar questions. I am still learning how to use the board efficiently.
4 | What is Nazareth like in this time? | John 1:46 | Mary Ann D | 220937
What does he mean, "can any good thing come out of Nazaareth"? What kind of town is this? Is is a place of poverty or a den of thieves? Like the town of Dodge that everyone want to get out of? and if so is Philip inviting Nathanael to witness the Goodness that came from that place that seems to be so bad?
5 | who are Pharasees and why the questions | John 1:21 | Mary Ann D | 220936
If the Pharasees and Levites are priests then are they considered to be wise and knowledgable? Are they respected as we would respect holy people that are close to God? What is the situation sourounding these poeple who seem to give John such a hard time with questions. I would like to know what is the reason they ask John if He is Elijah, the Prophet, or Christ? Are they asking if He is one who's understanding and closeness to God is at the same hight, the same level of knowledge as theirs and if this is the case, then wouldn't a holy priest recognize this if they understand and know what Elijah and the prophets know?
6 | What should I read first? | Bible general Archive 4 | Mary Ann D | 220910
Thank you for your response. You are the second person to suggest John to me. I must humbly confess that when it happened I open the book anywhere as God put the inclination into me to do it, It always seems to me that God instructs me in a very specific way with respect to a certain confusion in me. It caused me to alter my attitude, or change direction of thought/deed where I likely would go into the fire if I hadn't. This was before I realized my Christian identity. I feel that God is with me in every moment and guarding me from His enemy who wants me. Perhaps I don't understand all context but this much is evident to me. But I agree that the thing that God really wants me to do is read everything, and really get to know the scripture. Jesus is God, He is the one that is with me, but I always say God. For now I will start with John. Thank you.

Thank you very much for responding. I will see if my local library offers either of the books you recomend. I will visit the website that you mentioned and try to find the posts you recomend by brother Doc. I can't go to a physical church, my husband would not like that. God in a strange way has told me to not anger my husband or disturb the peace of my home by forcing the issue. I am just supposed to study the Bible and I know God will get me in touch with the right people to help me, one step at a time.
8 | What should I read first? | Not Specified | Mary Ann D | 220903
I have not read too much of the Bible for about twenty years. I did study it in school, and have some memory of the stories and teaching of Jesus as well as some old testament stories. I feel very strongly that I need to read and study Jesus teaching. I do not have a single Christian friend to help guide my study and it is completely overwhelming me. Does anybody here have a suggestion of where I should start reading and how to understand it? Usually I just open the book to anywhere and read a little, but I need to actually study it somehow. Maybe there are lessons somewhere online that I can be directed to? I just found this board this evening and it is a very strange format for me so forgive me if this is not an appropriate type of question for this board. Thanks for any helpful suggestions. |
