1 | Money changers in Temple | Matthew | LadyS007 | 225555 | ||
Money Changer is a person whose business is the exchange of currency, usually of different countries, at a fixed or official rate. The people were required to make offerings at the Temple. As it was too difficult for those living far away to bring animals with them, they would instead purchase the animal when they arrived at the Temple. Also, it was not permitted to use pagan money to make offerings (or pay the Temple tax), so coins would be evaluated and exchanged for shekels. The men providing this service had found it too easy to cheat people however, and it is for this dishonesty that Yeshua drives them out. Matthew 12. And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13. And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. The last part of verse 13, where he say you have made it a den of theives. Everyone that was selling in the temple that day were overcharging people. |
