1 | Is Jezebel part of the church? | Rev 2:20 | KingdomWalker | 78428
EdB thanks for not being cranky about this discussion, because I really am enjoying it, I hope everyone does as well. Just a final thought to this subject...I still agree with you in the responsibilities we have to live a Godly life, and have the character of Christ...Yes! Yes! and Amen! But only trying to answer the original question of is there a Jezebel spirit in today's church? I think we agreed that yes the bible does have accounts of such demonic influence coming against people, even Jesus and yes we can resist and overcome those attacks, or voices or whatever. One comment that you made was that the possible number of demons is limited. That is true to the degree of doing a little simple (but not so simple)math. Here is a verse that says: Hebrews 12:22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly. Revelation 5:11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. This is basically an immeasurable amount of angels in heaven. And God threw 1/3 of these angels out with Lucifer. My point being is that there probably are enough to cause havoc all over the earth. And I believe that Satan probably keeps himself busy with the so called, big name believers...but when a demon can influence a man to leave his wife or visa versa or cause a family to leave a church etc. That damage can be horrifically devestating and I close out by saying that the original question was whether or not there is a spirit of Jezebel in the church and I believe that the bible does support clearly the need for believers to check their own hearts and make sure that they haven't been influenced by something other than the spirit of God. Let the spirit of God bring this to light for us if need be. Amen. |

2 | Is Jezebel part of the church? | Rev 2:20 | KingdomWalker | 78363
EdB, I totally agree with what you are saying...our flesh is part of what influences our decisions. But if I may make a couple of points, because what may be the point of discussion is whether or not humans can be influenced by demons. I say yes they can. When the devil sees weaknesses in our lives he will try to use those places in our lives to bring destruction to us. For an example, Immediately following Jesus being baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus was lead by the Holy Spirit out into the desert where He was tempted. How was He tempted? Well the devil talked to Him, Right? But because Jesus had complete self control and knew the word of God he was able to resist and thus overcome the temptations of the devil. Perfect example of how we too can overcome what the devil tries to speak to us. Jesus said that we would have trials and temptations also. He showed us how we can overcome those battles with the enemy. Most of our battles are in our minds and come as thoughts that is why we must take every thought captive and discern is this the voice of God, my flesh, or the enemy? I have tried to clarify this point in my other comments, may be this will be clearer...I did not say Jezebel's spirit was influencing people in the church today, I said the spirit that influenced Jezebel is still influencing people today. I think people name it a Jezebel spirit because we can read our bibles and see what kind of person Jezebel was...her character is really obvious, it is not wrong to assume that her life demonstrated a lack of Godliness due to her opening herself up to much darkness. I believe it is biblical to assume that she followed a voice of her flesh that was influenced by voices of darkness. I believe this is biblical to conclued because of Jesus experience in the desert and also again we see in the story of "The Demoniac" Jesus again talked with the devil. The devil had a voice. Jesus asked him what his name was, it replied Legion. So here we can see that the spirits had a name. So when we refer to the Jezebel spirit it is to identify the character and type of influence based on what we can evidently see in Jezebel. But I will agree again in saying yes to everything you said EdB but I would have to add to that the biblical support that does indicate that humans can be influenced by domonic voices even if they are as subtle as thoughts in our own minds. If Jesus had to battle this then it was to give us the assurance and game plan to also overcome. Thanks for letting me share. God Bless. |

3 | Is Jezebel part of the church? | Rev 2:20 | KingdomWalker | 78198
Joe...if you are a Spirit filled believer of Jesus Christ than the Spirit of God is what you would have. You have to understand good character comes from the fruit of the Spirit of God. When we say a "Jezebel spirit" it is not actually Jezebel's soul that is roaming the earth. It is a spirit that influenced Jezebel. Satan and the 1/3 have been roaming the earth for a long time, they never die. Satan is prowling around seeking whom he may devour. Joseph was a believer and was very obedient to the Spirit of God therefore he was lead by the Spirit of God. That is why the bible says we should be Spirit lead...not spirit lead. Which voice do we follow the Spirit of God or another? Jezebel was a worshipper of false gods and inevitably opened her life up to much demonic activity in her life. She let those influences rule her. Today when the word of God is preached it should bring truth to who are we really? If I have an attitude or behavior that is not honoring to God than I want the conviction of the Holy Spirit. I want the word of God to expose those things in my life so that I can repent and get free. In many churches today Pastors and leadership have a hard time when it comes to making changes in order to have a move of God because so many times people whom you might say are influenced by a Jezebel Spirit will throw a fit and threaten to holdback their tithe, start a letter writing campaign, threaten to leave (with half of the church), threaten to throw the Pastor and his family out of the parsonage, etc. It is a mean spirit. It is all about control. You orginally asked if there is a Jezebel spirit in the church today? The answer is yes it is in many churches today but it is not meant to be. The rate of Pastors getting burned out and leaving their churches is phenomenal and very sad, devestating actually, and alot of their defeat is in battling alone against this spirit. But if you get a congregation who will support their Pastor and not allow that kind of spirit to operate it will go. Sometimes a person may have to go with it if they will not repent. I really hope this helps.
4 | Is Jezebel part of the church? | Rev 2:20 | KingdomWalker | 78076
In 1Kings, We can read about Jezebel and we can see what kind of person she was by what she did. 1Kings 21:1 Naboth's Vineyard. Jezebel wrote letters to others to plot against Naboth's life. She set Naboth up in order to have him killed so that she could get what she wanted. Do you notice the condescending way she talks to Ahab the king? And she intervenes as one we might refer to as "Big Mama" and the king is acting as a spoiled, whiney, child. This certainly is not kingdom order. Or a very healthy relationship. Jezebel is taking the role as the king's mother rather than his wife. We see how the same spirit that influenced Jezebel, influences people in the church today. Do you know of anyone who has ever gotten mad at somebody in church leadership and then started a letter writing or phone campaign? Usually all done behind the leadership's back. It happens all the time. It is a move to destroy the leadership's ministry, reputation, and life. Jezebel also was out to kill any prophet of the Lord. In today's church that same spirit rises up in individuals. It shows up as, when church leadership preaches the word of God and if the word comes to us with conviction because the Spirit of God is trying to change something in our hearts, the Jezebel spirit will say, "Control! Control!" the Jezebel spirit wants to stop any moves of God and the voices of God's prophets from speaking truth to God's people. Truth that will bring us to repentance which brings us to restoration. People who won't submit to a church or it's leadership may be influenced by this same spirit. Jezebel would not submit to the prophets or to God. God said that our battles were not against flesh and blood, but against the powers and principalities, etc. Therefore, we have to realize that we can be influenced by the voices of those spirits who are of the devil, not of God. That is why we have to be careful to what we listen to and to what we agree with. Those same spirits that influenced Jezebel, influence people today. Jezebel's life choices opened her up to much demonic influence. Same with Judas who was a deceiver and betrayer, and many other you can read about in the Mark T. Barclays's book "Beware of Seducing Spirits" which will also give you all the scriptures to back up what he teaches in his book. People who are constantly in disagreement with anything the church wants to accomplish, or gets easily offended, or tries to dominate every conversation, controls their spouse, always wants things done their way, are a few of the traits you can identify as a Jezebel spirit. Hope that helps.
5 | Women Pastors? | 1 Tim 3:2 | KingdomWalker | 78067
FWC, Just an after thought...I think we would be very surprised at how many women pastors there are in other countries. It seems that this teaching that women can't be pastors is an American thing. Just a word of caution...1 Samuel 24 4 The men said, "This is the day the LORD spoke of when he said [1] to you, 'I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.' " Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul's robe. 5 Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. 6 He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD's anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the LORD ." If the fruit of a man or woman's ministry is that the people they are shepherding are loving God more, honoring God more, and willing to change anything in themselves as a result of the word that is being preached than I would not snip at the corners of their ministry. If there is a minister or ministry that we don't agree with then we shouldn't be apart of it. One of the things that is most destructful in the church today is the tongue. If we can't agree on the vision a particular church than don't be apart of it. We need to find one that we can agree with. If we can't find one that we can agree with than maybe we need to examine our own heart and make sure there is not something in us that is keeping us from submitting to any leadership. We cannot exalt ourself to where we think we can spot who is anointed and who isn't. We as a church have to get beyond these petty arguements of whose called and whose not. If you believe in Jesus Christ then you are called. If a women can pray, prophesy, be an evangelist, teach in a classroom, than she can pastor. There is no rank to the spiritual gifts and they are not gender biased. Apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists and teachers. God can use anyone he chooses, even donkeys :) A great book to read regarding church members and leadership is by, Mark T. Barclay, "Beware of Seducing Spirits." Thanks for letting me share. |

6 | Is Jezebel part of the church? | Rev 2:20 | KingdomWalker | 77973
There is a spirit of Jezebel. The spirit that influenced Jezebel is very active today. This spirit can influence both men and women, Christian and non Christian. The characteristics of this spirit are control, intimidation, rebellion against any figure of authority. This spirit is out to destroy anyone in a leadership role. I recently read an awesome book by Mark Barclay called "Seducing Spirits. " This book exposes the Jezebel spirit as well as several others.
7 | Women Pastors? | 1 Tim 3:2 | KingdomWalker | 77903
I believe in kingdom order and that a man is the head of the household. Women are to be in submission to their husbands and any other authority figure, just as men are to be submitted to those in authority over them. The bible I believe that 1Timothy 2:12 is addressing a church that was sorely out of kingdom order and Paul was addressing the many issues of unruly and disruptive behavior. Paul was telling the women not to usurp which means override. Women can be mouthy and Paul was telling them to be silent and listen. They were being disruptive. However we see in other places in the bible where women have authority to speak truth to others. First example, In Acts 18 we see a Husband and wife team,Priscilla and Aquila. It says in this passage in reference to Apollos, it says, "They invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately." We can clearly see a team effort here. Paul upheld their ministry as equals. Another passage where we read about Lydia the woman who was a dealer of the purple cloth and a worshipper of God. It says God opened her heart to receive and it also says that her whole household was then baptized.Lydia was the head of her household probably because there does not appear to be a husband. So Lydia is in a place of authority over those in her household and uses that authority to lead them all into salvation. Establishing quit well kingdom order in her home. Another place we see God use a woman in authority over all the peoples of Israel was Deborah who was a prophetess and a judge. I believe the bible supports women in leadership and I believe that women who are called to Pastor and are pastoring are anointed and used by God very powerfully. And if a woman is pastoring and people are being saved, being healed, being restored, marriages are stronger, children are following the Lord and not the world, how then can we say she is not a pastor? When Barak failed to step up and do what the Lord asked of him, the Lord put Deborah in command. I hate to see the church robbed of vessels who are willing to lay down their lives for the cause of Christ, and who are called and anointed because we read out of context. We have to be careful not to forget to get the history, the culture, the religious background of what we are reading so that we get it all in the right context. Are we saying that a husband can never listen to his wife and can never learn from her insight to the scriptures or revelations that she receives? |
