1 | Seeking God | Bible general Archive 4 | Keith :) | 198883
Dear LJ777 here is a bible text that may be helpful- 2 Chronicles 15 - God's message to king Asa. v2 "Listen to me Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you..." v15 They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest on every side." 16: v9 "For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." Dear friend, I believe that reading the word of God and earnest prayer is a very effective means of seeking God. Pray earnestly and repeatedly that God may intervene in your life in a personal manner and that he may reveal himself to you. I believe with all my heart that you will not be disappointed. The book of The Gospel of John is an excellent reading. I read it over often. I will pray that prayer be answered. Keith :) |

2 | what about infant baptism | Bible general Archive 4 | Keith :) | 198882
another way to ask this is - "what does the bible say about infant immersion", (since the word baptism is a translation of the word for immerse) My answer- The Life of Jesus demonstrates that human life on earth is punctuated with three significant events of immersion. 1. immersion into child birth and raised into a new life in childhood under the law of parents. 2. immersion into water at convesion to Christ and raised into a new adult life in Christ in the church. 3. immersion into death and raised into new eternal spiritual life. All three require the saving power of the blood of Christ to save us. All three are referred to as baptism in scripture, however only ONE Baptism (at conversion) involves our request. The other two (both birth and death) are involuntary. We can see the shadow of these three immersions in the life of the nation of Israel. 1. Israel's birth, saved from death out-of-Egypt down thru' Red Sea and up into new life journey of young Israel under the law of Moses. 2. Israel saved from law of death outgrew the wilderness rebellion, down thru' the depths of Jordan and up into renewed covenant into possession of Canaan on high ground. 3. Israel's soul saved from final decline into physical death with Christ and raised into spiritual life in the New Covenant in the lives of NT Christians. So I think that when Paul speaks of "baptism into/unto Moses" in 1 Cor 10, he is referring to that event in the life of Israel which is a shadow of our natural childbirth out of the womb as Israel left the final restriction in the fertile Nile Delta, with the blood of the lamb on the door posts and on thru' the Red Sea. A new born baby, even if still born has been bathed in blood at exit from the womb, and is free from the tarnish of the "original sin" of the flesh for the time being. A new born needs no additional baptism! However, as we all know the glory of a new born baby does not last a life time. Human nature grows and rebellion does set in. (all have fallen short) God calls each one to enter our birth right in "Canaan" (NT church) requiring trust and obedience. Rebellion must be outgrown and each of us needs to request adult baptism, following Jesus into the "Jordan". These are my observations regarding this question. Comments always welcome. keith :) |
