1 | "If" small word, BIG DEAL | Rom 8:17 | KCEvangelist | 92007
I was referring to the "if" in part b only. It seems to me that our glorification hinges on "if we suffer with Him." Of course, suffering saves no one, but suffering with Jesus is clear evidence of "the genuineness of our faith." If "privilege always comes with equal responsibilities" what is the consequence of not fulfilling those responsibilities, i.e. "not suffering with Him"? |

2 | "If" small word, BIG DEAL | Rom 8:17 | KCEvangelist | 92006
I agree, No Cross, No Glory. I have never heard this verse or its equivalent preached in regard to a person getting saved or staying saved.
3 | Danger of liv. accord. to the flesh? | Rom 8:13 | KCEvangelist | 91695
i agree there is no contradiction. In both cases, i think it is talking about spiritual death, not physical death. physical being separation from the body and spiritual being final separation from God. my take on the verse is that professors of the faith must display "works of faith", i.e. "put to death the deeds of the body", in order to have an assurance of salvation. it goes along the lines of James exhortation; "faith w/o works is "useless, dead" and Paul's exhortations in 1 Cor. 6:9; Eph. 5:5; Gal. 5:21, etc.

Robert, Your sequence seems right for an O.T. person but not for a N.T. person. Sheol (Hebrew) of the O.T. received everyone except Enoch, Elijah and possibly Moses. All of earth's inhabitants descended into either Abraham's bosom or the place of torment. Tartarus housed a few select bad angels. Following Jesus resurrection, Abraham's bosom area was emptied. Jesus' took "captivity captive" and ascended to heaven. In the N.T. era all believers ascend to heaven at death and await the resurrection of their bodies. Paul said, "to be with Christ is much better." Jesus is in heaven, not Sheol / Hades. All non-believers still descend to Sheol / Hades. There they await the resurrection and final judgment. |
