1 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | Jesified | 111665
I'm not trying to start an argument, but where does it say that Satan speaks gibberish? I can recall 3 times that Satan has spoken: 1. to Eve in Genesis 2. to God in Job 3. to Jesus in the desert In all of those instances, Satan was understood. And think about it, if Satan's main goal is to get Christians off track, don't you think he'd use a language we can understand? If you say "Hey, look out!!" in French or German, I don't have a clue what you're saying and I'd just be confused and look at you...then probably get hit by the car you attempted to warn me about. But if you said it in English (or a language I understand) then I might move. Also, tongues does not have to be in a known language. I used Strongs Exhaustive concordance to see exactly what Mark 16:17 meant by NEW tongues. It means just that: new. Now that may be new to the speaker ie, average Joe unilingual Christian speaking Cantoneese or it could be new as in brand new, never before heard. Besides, there are so many different languages now, not to mention dead languages, and what about undiscovered cultures, how do you know you're not speaking their language? The point is the Bible isn't specific on that. And as I said, I don't want to argue because when fisherman aren't fishing, they're fighting and personally I'd rather be fishing if you know what I mean. I was just curious as to what you were using as your scriptural basis. God Bless, Jesified |

2 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | Jesified | 111663
Paul's reference to tongues in 1 Cor 12:29-30 is public tongues. Not all of us are meant to operate in the gift of speaking in tongues publicly and I totally agree in that aspect, but you can still receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit to speak with tongues privately, ie between just you and God. You will notice that Paul also said that "I would that you all speak in tongues..." Why would Paul desire us all to speak in tongues if he knew that it was a direct contradiction to God's direction? You are exactly right, we should ask what the Word of God says, but because we're human all of us won't have the same interpretation of scripture, although we should. I meant agreeing or disagreeing with any preconceived notion of what Kenneth Hagin Ministries stood for. That was more of a lack of eloquence on my part. I was trying to suggest them because they are the best I've read on the subject. You are also right in saying that you can learn about tongues without reading a Kenneth Hagin book. I don't care what pipe the water comes from so long as it's clean water, if you now what I'm saying. God Bless, Jesified |

3 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | Jesified | 111660
Well, your longer question and shorter question are slightly different so let me answer it this way. Yes, we should ask God for the gift of tongues if we haven’t already been filled with the Spirit (being born again or born of the Spirit is different then being filled with the spirit). Mark 16:17 starts a list of signs that will follow them that believe, one of which is speaking with new tongues. With the assistance of a concordance, I have found that you could also read the passage as this, "speak in new languages superior to the old." So this passage states that speaking in tongues is superior regular human speech. Now, please don't misunderstand me and take off on that idea. Tongues are useful for 3 main things: edification and as a sign to convey a message, to pray the will of God. You can't just get in the pulpit and preach a message completely in tongues with no interpretation, because that won't do anyone but you any good (1 Cor 14:5). Another individual answered your question with a story about an individual who spoke in an Ethiopian tongue. That would be tongues used as a sign. The third main usage is tongues to pray the will of God. Since you know that utterance of speaking in tongues is given/directed by the Holy Spirit (you referenced 1 Cor 12:11) than you can clearly see that tongues are of God. You can be given the “burden” or a strong urge to pray a certain way or for a certain thing, but if you don’t know how to pray you can always pray in tongues as the Spirit would lead. For example I had the strong unction the other day to pray for Ireland. I didn’t know what about then and I may never. It’s kind of hard for me to explain. As for your second question, the believer is born of the Spirit, but not filled with the Spirit. Born of the Spirit means that you're going to Heaven, you believe in Jesus. Filled with the Spirit, means that you operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the most obvious and usually the first sign of this is speaking in tongues, but that isn't always the case. For more info on tongues I would suggest reading 1 Cor 14. Also, there are some very good books by Kenneth E. Hagin: Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and Why Tongues? Even if you don’t agree with his position on tongues, I would suggest reading them purely to be informed on the subject. If anything needs clarification, don’t hesitate to ask. God Bless, Jesified |

4 | No Joyce Meyer?????????????????? | Acts 17:11 | Jesified | 72367
Cyclist, Thanks for your well-wishing. I pray that the Lord blesses you with whatever you put you hand and that you seek him earnestly and whole-heartedly. I've seen and read about many healing lines where the people were given a similar command. One in particular where there were four individuals in wheelchairs. The preacher said something to the effect of "Get up!" or "Rise up and walk!" Three walked, the other said, "But I can't walk." The difference in these two types of people is that when given the command those who walked were both obedient and believed that they would be able to walk when they got to their feet. However, the individuals who are not healed looked at their symptoms and didn't act. The man at Bethesda got up and walked. He was obedient and must have believed that his legs would support him. If you don't believe that a bridge can hold you, do you walk out on the bridge? Of course not, so this man had to have believed that his legs would hold him before he got up. Jesified |

EdB, Exodus 4:11 doesn't convince me. It says that He made the mute, it doesn't say that He made the mute be mute. It definately says that He created the individual which is mute but I don't see much more than that. What does God have to gain from a mute or deaf disciple? What other reason does the world have to get saved than because they want what we have? They want to feel loved, we have the love of God living in us. They want to go to Heaven when they die, we're already going. They want to be healed, we were healed at Calvary. They want to be deaf...wait a minute...who wants to be deaf? What other attraction to the Christian life than it's better than living in the world? Also, I agree it's far better to see a man come to Jesus than to see a man walk for the first time in years. However, if God healing that man can increase his zeal for God and help him to lead others to Christ then I'm all for it. I don't know one person who was saved because they got up and said, "Praise God i'm blind!" But I do know that my own mother was healed supernaturaly and that played an intrical part in eventually leading my father, brother, and I to Christ. This is not just my experience it happened in the Bible too. Look at Acts 3 and 4. In these chapters, God heals a lame man through Peter and John. Then the lame man walks into the temple and Peter and John explain what happened, preach Christ, and though they are arrested, look at chapter 4 verse 4. Many believed. Now if you lead a man to salvation that saves him and maybe his family. If a man gets healed, it is a testimony of God's love and power that also has the abuility to reach many more. I am not saying that a man being healed is greater than a man being saved, but I think in an effort to prove your point that you minimized the effectiveness of divine healing. Jesified |

BradK, As far as "taking up serpents" and "drinking anything deadly" there is only one example to follow and that is of Paul in Acts 28:3-6. In these verses, Paul is bitten by a snake accidentally. Since this is the only example of "taking up serpents" or "drinking anything deadly" then we must use this as the basis for our interpretation of those parts of Mark 16:15-18. We see two major things here: 1) This was an accident, therefore, it is not scriptural to just pick up whatever snake you want and play with it and say that you won't be harmed by its venom when it bites you. That's just stupid. Now if you are out in the woods or the water or somewhere and you happen to be bit by the snake, then you will not be harmed. 2) If it only applied to the disciples that Jesus was physically talking to at that moment, then this example goes against what scritpure would teach if that were true. Read Acts 7:58. Still under the name of Saul, Paul watched the clothes of the men who were stoning Stephen. He wasn't a disciple yet. This means that if Jesus was only talking to those who were physically present then Paul would be exempt. So it is safe to say that God will protect you if you are bit by accident. It is also safe to say that since Jesus wasn't physically talking to Paul when He said this, that He was talking to all that would come to be His disciples. Therefore, it applies today to you and me just as much as it did Peter, James, John, and the rest. Jesified |

9 | Divine Healing, True or False? | Matthew | Jesified | 72232
As a follower of Christ and a believer of the Bible I say this with as much love as I can. You do not want to ask those questions here. I get myself into too many arguments defending the Bible everytime someone posts a divine healing question. I have seen where other's have answered your question supporting healing and prosperity and I agree with them, but I would like to remind you of a few things that are useful when you have scripture questions. 1) The New Covenant is an upgrade from the Old Covenant, therefore, any blessing in the Old Covenant is available in the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:6) 2) If you want to know the Father or His will, look at Jesus and what He did (John 8:19, 8:28, 14:7) 3) Always search scriptures to see if what is taught is true (Acts 17:11) In closing, I'd like to share an expierence that one of my friends had with Benny Hinn. Benny was a guest speaker at her church one week. He dropped in on them during their choir practice for his service (my friend was in the choir there). He had a short talk with them, held up his hands and said, "God bless you all." At that moment, the entire choir fell under the power of the Holy Spirit. I have also seen some of his broadcasts and heard similar stories from my friends and family. I assure you, Benny Hinn and what he preaches is legitimate. Well, i'm probably already going to get jumped on for what I've already told you so I'll make this post worth it. If you're looking for scriptural support watch Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Creflo Dollar, the list goes on. I don't like to use denominations because Christ broke down that wall in joining Jew and Gentile in one body (Colossions 3:11), but the Word of Faith movement preachers are not only founding everything on scripture, but living what they preach. My mother once saw Kenneth Copeland realize that he said something wrong while preaching and he stopped right there, repented and corrected what he had said. In the middle of his sermon. Also, I'd like to warn you about the oppositon you'll face throwing names like Hinn and Hagee out there. In answer to your question, many people have taken quotes out of context, misinterpreted what was said, slandered, and some just flat out don't believe the Bible. Remember that persecution is a part of being Christian. Jesus was persecuted and so was Paul, but we are conquers in Christ (1 John 5:4). Anyway, people can forge or take out of context whatever they want, but when it's all said and done if it's good it'll stand (Acts 5:34-42). God Bless, Jesified |

BradK, I apologize for the sarcasm of my last post. I still slip on the whole "walking in love" issue now and then. I agree that we should not lift them up to the point where they do no wrong. Though we disagree elsewhere. Both of us are fairly well set in our ways and I believe it to be unfruitful to continue discussion. God bless, Jesified |

Taffi Dollar and Billy Graham are slated as the speakers for a conference helt at Oral Roberts University later this month. I guess he hasn't noticed that these teachers are "severly lacking in sound Biblical preaching." Or that "Many of these "so-called" preachers are also outright heretics and even liars!" These leaders are the LORD's Anointed so I hope you know what you're saying. Jesified |

16 | Divine Healing? | Matthew | Jesified | 72207
I don't know why that missionary died. But God knows, and that's why we have the Bible. God knew that things were going to happen to us in this fallen world and He knew that we would need a guiding light. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" -Psalm 119:105. I'm only 19 and i've only been saved since April of 2001, but I also know that I have a call of God upon my life to preach the Gospel. Not just a calling in the general sense that everyone is called, but as my profession. I might not have much in the way of experience, but I am growing in knowledge every day. I'd rather have it that way. It seems that the more experience some people have, the more their theology is baised on that experience than it is on the Word of God. It makes me want to cry when I think about how people could be so blind to look directly at God's Word and recognize that it's the truth, but not see what it is saying to them. Jesified And why does everyone keep calling me Justified, it's Jesified. |

Welcome! I'm gonna' have to side with the EdB and pray on and say that it depends on who answers. I'd love to help you out though, but I'm gonna' need you to be more specific on what your asking. In these passages we see the beginning of Jesus' ministry and the calling of His first deciples. I'm not sure what you mean when you ask what it's telling you. Jesified |

19 | By the bible, is nuclear winter possible | Gen 8:22 | Jesified | 72201
Well, if you mean global warming or nuclear winter that would destroy all life on earth, I'd say no, it won't happen. If you mean global warming or nuclear winter that may kill large parts of the worlds population (but spare others). I think during the tribulation maybe. I'm not as up to date on Revelation as I should be. Jesified |

I understand that it was the responsibuility of the head of the household to offer those sacrifices, but he should do so with the right motive. I believe that Job did the right thing for the wrong reason. That reason being that, in his heart, he feared what would happen if He didn't make those sacrifices. Not that he sinned, because it clearly says that he didn't. Job feared, and Satan carried out what Job feared. I think we both make a good case for either side, but I know from previous encounters that neither of us will convince each other of our beleifs. So I call for a truce on this issue for the time being. Jesified |
