It has been my unerstanding that water baptism is an outward symbol as a profession of my faith, caused by the inspiration of the indwelling Holy Spirit First came baptism of the Holy Spirit(not water baptism)Acts10:47-48 Can any man forbid the water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Also Titus 3:4,5 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. (Acts2:38 Peter said to them, "(AY)Repent, and each of you be (AZ)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.) After that those who had recieved the Holy Spirit, recieved water baptism Acts2:41So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand [d](BE)souls. I hope this helps, also the fact that water baptism, (whithout the inspiration of of the indwelling Holy Spirit)would be considered works, and the scriptures are clear about salvation comes not by faith alone and not by works as per Eph 2:8 For (U)by grace you have been saved (V)through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is (W)the gift of God; 9(X)not as a result of works, so that (Y)no one may boast.Worksis nnot grace.Rom4:44 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. So righteousness comes by faith alone Rom 1:16-18 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." and (NIV) Romans 3:19-21 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.I would think Paulwould never have said he would rather not have baptized any of you if water baptism was a condition of ones salvation 1Cor 1:14-17 I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. 16(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. God bless you for my life has been blessed through These words from the New Testament. Thanks for your Question |
