1 | displaying things of jesus | Ex 20:4 | J.Wishart | 56942
I agree that You should be able to carry a picture of your wife around. The issue i think is that of people haveing a graven image of god.Your picture of your wife is not a symbol of god....(Is it???) but the cross and any pictures trying to symbolize god or pictures depicting what jesus etc lookes like seems to be against the commandment in question??? |

3 | "What did Jesus look like?" | Ex 20:4 | J.Wishart | 56940
Maybee all you can do is ask them afew questions. 1: What did Matthew,Mark, Luke and John look like. What did Moses look like etc etc.. 2: was their any cameras or vidio cameras etc back in jesus time. 3: Could you see planets lightyears away back in jesus's time like you can these days. You are sort of stuck there. The information that you said that you had might be sufficient to answer their question though i wouldn't suggest it due to the reasons i stated in my earlyer reply... Unfortunately God didn't waste pen or parchment when his word was writen. The only people that i can think of that have a physical description was Esau and Jacob. Their characteristics were given for a reason as everything in the bible is. You have a very challenging task indead. I've only been a few years out of my teenage years and i remember very well how difficult it was to persuade me... Maybee you should Pray to God for the answer. Ask and the door will be opened... Good luck and i hope you find an answer that will satisfy THEIR question!!!! |

4 | "What did Jesus look like?" | Ex 20:4 | J.Wishart | 56934
Exodus 20:4 - Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Exodus 20:5 - Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them.... God the Father, the son, and the Holy spirit gave us the 10 commandments in the old testament. I believe that we are not to know what Jesus looked like in his human form. Because we do not know what he looked like we would have to guess what he looked like and this would most definently be an incorrect image and thus a GRAVEN image of Our lord Jesus. Some Presbiterian churches around Australia are now getting rid of stained glass windows depicting jesus. Getting rid of crosses which are a symbol to us of god thus a graven image. And a multitude of other things as well. If we were to know what jesus looked like we would all have somethings to judge. Some would think he looked proud, strong and others would see him as kind and gentle, and others would see him as frail and weak. As you know we can be friends with someone for years and still not know what they are like, what their expectations are and what they actually feel about everything. Image is a majour part of how we judge a person and if we were to be given an image of jesus we would most definently judge him... Just look at what happend when our God Send down his beloved Son the first time. He was persecuted. And jesus most probably had the most perfect body language, tone of voice etc. that has ever been present on this earth. We are to obey gods commandments and live how he wants us to live and worship the lord our God with all our heart and all our minds not a picture that we have made up.... This is why we will probably never know what jesus looked like...(Untill the end of this world...) I know this doesn't give you any details of what jesus looked like but I Pray that this answer has given you an answer as to why you cant find any details of what jesus looked like... |

5 | Is the new Jerusalem the chruch? | Rev 21:2 | J.Wishart | 56925
My view about this is that at the end this earth there will be built the new Jerusalem. An actual city. Revelations is a very symbolic text i find this part is particularly detailed and can not really find any reason to consider it not to be real... Rev 21:1 - And i saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. Rev 21:5..., Behold, i make all thigs new. If our ultimate purpose is to worship God then the new Jerusalem could definently be considered a church as it will be used for the same purpose(To worship God!) I dont believe that it is an apocalyptic SYMBOL. the bible seams to suggest in revelations that it will be a real place. A place to worship our God. Like a church. God will come down to be with his people.(Rev 21:3) If their is a new heaven and a new earth and God is going to come down and live with us their will have to be a place for us to be with God. Later in the book of revelation their is also reference to the river of water of life and the tree of life. Rev 22:7- Behold, I come Quickly. If Our God Say's He is coming to us....Well... Then he will probably come to us... on the new earth.... In the new jerusalem.. |
