WOS This is the constructive response I was hoping for and is really helpful as it gives sources to confirm what I believe is correct teaching and I can use this. Many Christians hold to truths that are often solid but need to be able to revisit these to confirm our beliefs and demonstrate understanding. God bless and thanks again. Ian |

Thank you for your reply however it is necessary not to personalise these matters. There is no dispute over God's Sovereignty. Nor is this a matter of my faith. With respect you are stating the obvious. Colin Urquart was a man of faith and states the opposite to your interpretation. The question is about spirit filled Christians, living within the will of God. With respect you are using a traditional safety clause if prayers are not answered then it is the fault of the Christian who is acting in their own strength. This does not hold water with unbelievers and is not consistent with the scriptures quoted. Also it is a major issue for some believers. This needs handling much more sensitively than you suggest.Remember faith the size of a mustard seed!!! As men of Christ we have to stand firm and give answers and we need the wisdom of God through the Holy Spirit to guide and empower. Bless you Ian |

Thanks for your helpful response. I have replied to another member. There are many Christians of wisdom, faith and a close Christian walk with God who have unanswered prayer and further on in the James passage you quote there is a promise without caviats. Colin Uquart does say that unanswered prayer is a lack of faith. My initial verse states unambiguously "anything you ask". I have always answered this in the same way as you have but to unbelievers and Christians alike the Bible is non negotiable and we cannot add our own interpretations. I agree with your comments but I struggle to find our interpretation in scripture as many requests are made by people who know God's will, know the Bible and are people of faith. I am praying for the right answers!!! Every blessing Ian |

Thanks for your comments which are appreciated. My difficulty is that the passages quoted say that if we pray in faith we will see answers. As Christians we need to be praying in God's will yes but if we are convinced we are doing this through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we need answers for unbelievers. Can you give me a bible quote that says that God will not answer the faithful prayers of his church if it is not his will. Matthew 21:21: I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. James 5:15-16: And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. vers to whom this is a real question. The full quote is an absolute with no holds barred!! God Bless Ian |

7 | Really racking my brain on this. | NT general | Ian at Arras | 202326 | ||
Matthew 24 v 5 "Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them 'Rabbi.' This may be what you are referring to. If not sorry. Ian at Arras |

19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18 I am preaching on prayer in a few weaks. There was a question on the forum about why does God not answer prayer. This did not seem to have a response. Colin Urquart takes this as a given in "Anything you ask". Solid Christians have experiences of unanswered prayer particularly about health issues. Could I have some views please. I accept the bible as truth but am struggling as in the meeting there are a number of people with unanswered prayer. Thanks Ian at Arras |
