1 | How was salvation seen in OT? | Not Specified | Diomede | 222569
Can someone please tell me how the Old Testament writers understood salvation? I know they were ultimately saved by Christ which the sacrifical system pointed to, but, what did they think they got saved from? It seems to me that David in Psalms was wanting salvation from his physical enemies. Through Judges, the same thing, Israel needed saving from the nations that oppressed them. Can anyone find verses that show they saw salvation as eternal life, cause it seems to me that for them salvation was connected to the present difficulty?

4 | widows rights | 1 Tim 5:3 | Diomede | 222159
Thanks. I guess what I'm really wanting to know is the background behind those Bible verses. From the verses I've read about widows in the Bible it seems to me that God was concerned that they be looked after and not taken advantage of. So my question is, why was that nessasary? What rights did they have. The verses suggest that they lost rights when their husbands died. Could they run a business, own property etc.
5 | What were the rights of widows? | Not Specified | Diomede | 222107
What were the rights of widows in Bible times? It seems to me that through outthe whole Bible God is concerned that the widows be looked after and not taken advantage of. Is this because, without a husband they were more vulnerable, and didn't have so many rights if they were on their own? Did this change if they widowed but had a son? Can anyone claify for me what a widow could and couldn't do, and/or recommend any good materail on the subject. Thank you. |

7 | Was Jesus crucified naked? | Matt 27:35 | Diomede | 221039
Thanks for your answer. You're right it doesn't really matter. But it is interesting to think about how Christ would have felt on that cross, and had he been naked there would have been another whole level of humiliation that he went through for us. Also I've wondered if the undressing of Christ was symbolic. As in, when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden and realised they were naked, God made coverings for their sin, but on the cross that happned in reverse. Jesus took on the sin of the world and was uncovered and exposed to a holy God.

9 | who witnessed the curtain rip? | Dan 9:21 | Diomede | 220838
Thank you for your very full answer. What I was particularly wondering was what was happening in the temple at the time the curtain ripped. If it was at afternoon sacrifice I'm guessing it was really busy so alot of people would have witnessed it. Would this have been the case?
10 | what time was evening sacrifice | Dan 9:21 | Diomede | 220829

11 | Is this salt, salt of the covenant? | Matt 5:13 | Diomede | 218420
What does the salt, in the covenant of salt (lev 2 v 13 and num 18 v 19) represent? It is Christ, or the gospel? I am trying to find out if there is a link between salt here and it's use in matt 5 v 13.
12 | Did Jesus feed men and women? | John 6:10 | Diomede | 192959
Thanks for your reply. You're right the point here is that Jesus fed a huge crowd in a miraculos way. However, I would still like to understand this verse better. Did Jesus feed men and women? One explanation is that there were only men there, but I don't think that fits in with the other accounts of the story. Can someone make sense of verse 10 and 11 for me. Thanks.
13 | Did Jesus feed men and women? | John 6:10 | Diomede | 192936
Does this verse mean that all the people were told to sit down, but only the men did sit down. If this is the case, the next verse would indicate that only the men ate. Is this perhaps a cultural thing where the men ate first?
14 | Will we all speak one language again? | Not Specified | Diomede | 171798
I've heard someone say that in the new earth they believe we will all speak the same language, as we did before the tower of Babel. Is there scripture that would support this?

17 | Who could the Israelites marry? | Ruth 1:4 | Diomede | 160082
Was marriage between an Israelite man and Moabite woman allowed? I had thought, from reading Ezra, that marrying foreigners was prohibited, but I've been told that these Moabite marriages were okay. Can someone explain to me who the Isrealites were allowed to marry and why. Thanks |

18 | Does the number 10 symbolise anything? | Deut 23:3 | Diomede | 160080
Is there any significance in the use of the number ten here? I've been told that it can symbolise eternity, but can't find anything to support that. Also, was the congregation or assembly, the temple, or parts of the temple? What exactly were they excluded from? Thanks |
