5 | Church membership...a requirement? | Bible general Archive 4 | DCSI | 209407
He is just trying to bully you. I can't beleave he said something so stupid. Your husband probably hasn't felt led by God to become a member because he needs to pray about going somewhere else. The Bible does not say anything about being a church member because they didn't have roll call at the time. You do not have to be a member of any churc to make God happy. However, as a minister myself I would encourage you to find a good church that you are comfortable being a member of. Being signed up as a memeber of a church body shows unity to others. But it is not required for any reward in heaven. P.S. you might check and see if your pastor's salary is based on how many members he has. I have seen that before.
6 | do the teachings of jesus apply to us | Bible general Archive 4 | DCSI | 209404
Jesus's teachings definatly apply to us today. Not only Christians but all of man kind. The word of God is ongoing. The fundamentals of the word of God transends time, race, sex, and culture. Jesus did not teach new moral law. He taught the word of God that had already been passed down from generation to generation. If any thing He brought more clarity to God's word and made a way that all of us could finally achieve holliness. To reject Christ's teachings is to reject Christ, to reject the Son you have rejected the Father. How can you be a "CHRISTian" without the Christ. God's word does not go well with today's secularism nor today's spirtiualism (wich is more dangerous). Just as the days when Jesus taught on earth, our flesh still finds His teachings uncomfortable. God is not stuck in time that he only sees what is in front of Him at that moment, He knows it all from beginning to the end. His teachings our not time specific (remember we are not talking about profetic) but our aplicable to every generation in every culture across the world. God's teachings still apply because mankind, regardless of generation still has the same human sinful nature. There is nothing new under the sun. We still sin the same way they did thousands of years ago, all the way back to Adam. Hope this helps.
