2 | Are infants/infirmed covered by grace? | Rom 5:12 | Biblewarrior | 161729 | ||
the idea of original sin comes from Paul in Romans 5:12-19. This piece of scripture actually teaches the opposite: that there is no original sin, that there is in fact, original grace.in 5:1-11 Paul assures us that we can put all our hope in one saving act of one man which is when Jesus died on the cross. In those eleven verses Paul makes ten references to the saving effect of Christ and his death on the cross. Paul was contrasting Adam’s act of sin to Christ’s death on the cross. If Adam through one act can bring death to the entire human races, then Jesus Christ the son of God can through one act bring salvation to the entire human race. 2. Does this paragraph teach the doctrine of original sin? Does Paul’s references to Adam’s sin mean that every child is conceived and born sinful, and born condemned to death and eternal punishment? Paul is definatly affirming that Adam’s act brought some serious consequences on all his offspring. Our understanding of this text depends on how we interpret the terms “death”, “judgment”, “condemnation”, and “made sinners”. The biggest mistake with the passage of scripture is thinking that the subject Paul is talking about is original sin. It is not; in fact he is talking about Jesus death on the cross, and the universal and profound consequences of this event. His emphasis is not what happened to the human race through Adam, but what happened to the human race through Christ’s saving work. It does not matter whether we have or had original sin because what Paul is saying is that: whatever the whole human race got (or would have gotten) from Adam has been completely cancelled out for the whole human race by the gracious atoning work of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter if we would have gone to hell, eternal condemnation, or whatever. The whole point of the passage is that Christ’s death on the cross has intercepted, nullified, cancelled, and counteracted whatever we would have gotten from Adam. All the spiritual consequences of Adam’s sin are intercepted and destroyed before they are ever even applied. The only consequence that actually takes affect is physical death and it is countered with the promise of resurrection to eternal life. This means that no doctrine of original sin is taught in Romans 5:12-19 or anywhere else in the entire Bible. No child is conceived and born under the curse of Adam’s sin. If anything, this passage teaches original grace: every child is born under the grace of God; they are born saved and free of sin. if you have any questions at all please email me at: theteedawg@yahoo.com i know its a funny adress but tis mine and i like it |
