1 | The Sovereignty of God | Ps 103:19 | 6 days | 124808
Justme and Hank, I just began reading your thread...and had to comment! I agree with both of you. Thank God for conservative Bible colleges but many people are getting so messed up by "Bible" colleges. I went to a "Christian" college...studying business. We had a OT and NT survey class in the degree plan. Day one in OT survey, the ThD pastor/professor made his colors known. He trashed God's Word almost from his opening remarks. All of our tests were essay...you remember the old college blue books, right? Almost every answer I penned went something like this, "The answer you are looking for is this...yadyadyada...now this is what God had to say about it in His Word..." To get his seal of approval, one would usually use about 4-5 pages of a blue book and take about 45 minutes to complete a test. I usually completed each test in about 2 hours and would use 10-12 pages to build my argument. In class discussions, he would ask me where I get my facts...they were in the book he was trying to teach us...the Bible! I agree that it would (sadly) be a good idea for anyone planning to attend cemetary..oops seminary [smile] to be established in their faith. I am glad to hear that some bible colleges still have a committment to God's Word. 6days |

2 | A believer who smokes? | Mark 7:18 | 6 days | 124715
Dadda, I agree with the arguments of how much better life would be if you dumped that nasty habit! The Lord literally delivered me from smoking in 1985...I never had a single nicotine fit! My wife continued to smoke after I was delivered. I never craved a smoke from her while she continued to smoke. She was delivered in the same manner a short time later. I discovered food tasted great! My taste buds were liberated! My wallet was liberated! I quit when a carton cost only 12 bucks. Now don't get me wrong and I hope others on the board don't take offense to this but I've found many of those who are quick to jump on the smoker for not caring for the temple of God will stuff themselves at the restaurant after church with fried chicken and mashed potatoes and then go for the extra large dessert...and never think about how they are defiling the Lord's temple! A person who does nothing to control weight, BP, cholesterol, yadayadayada...will be quick to let you know how sinful smoking is! That is because it has become the PC sign as to ones spirituality. It has become the sign to the churched and unchurched as to whether or not you're saved. On that ground, it would probably be a good thing to quit...most see it as an appearance of evil. Should you quit? I say you should! For your health! For your taste buds! For the stinch on your clothes and your person that you are unaware of until after you quit! When a person gets saved and starts to fellowship with my church, I don't push them to quit smoking...I let the Lord do that! I do try to lead them into the Word and into a closer walk with the Lord! But I don't put my rules on them. Go to a country church and it isn't strange to stand around in the parking lot after church and 1/2 the people are smoking while they decide where to go eat. Small town churches don't make the big deal of a cigarette the way churches in larger communities do! I don't want you to walk away from this post thinking 6days says it's OK to smoke! I hate cigarettes and wish they were never invented! But I know for myself, there are bigger spiritual issues in most of our lives than whether or not we puff on a cigarette! Quit smoking because it's nasty! Quit sin because you want to serve Jesus! |

3 | entering church with shoes | Bible general Archive 2 | 6 days | 124677
The point Kalos is making is that this is written to Moses at the burning bush! And realize this: the temple in the Old Testament was the dwelling place of our Holy God. Now He dwells in US...believers! God told Moses to remove his shoes to make him realize that He is a Holy God! The church building is a place Christians come to fellowship, worship and hear the Word. The NT church met in each other's houses...the Temple God is concerned with is YOU!
4 | Jehovah's Witness Question | Bible general Archive 2 | 6 days | 124673
One of the biggest problems when dealing with a JW is that they will use the same words as Christians and agree with most of what a Christian says...but the problem arises when you look at the definition of the words we seem to share. They will show a certain amount of esteem for Jesus...only problem is they don't see Jesus as THE son of God...and especially God in the flesh. So when she says she believes in Jesus, you need to realize she believes something entirely different about Jesus than you do! I believe in Hitler...but I see him as something entirely different than Heinrich Himmler did. I see him as an instrument of evil...the picture of depraved man who was in need of a savior! HH saw him as a mastermind...someone to be followed and reverenced! That was the long of the answer to your question...the short answer is this...do not fellowship with her...II Cor 6:14. Be there to show her the light but not to embrace her or her faith! |

6 | Whats the laws purpose? | Bible general Archive 2 | 6 days | 124572
Shael, This isn't an original comparison...but it is a good one. If I go out in the woods for a camping trip and return home is a few days, I can pick up a mirror and look at myself. I will see how dirty my face is...and that I need to shave. The mirror allowed me to see this. But I can't take that mirror and use it to wash and shave my face. I used to mirror to see the need. It took something else all together to get me clean! But without the mirror, Im oblivious to the need I have! Enter the law. I look into the law and see my need. But try as I may, the law is unable to meet that need. It just revealed the need. Now that I know I'm in need, I'm ready for Jesus to meet that need! 6days |

7 | A "Passion" question | Not Specified | 6 days | 124337
Emmaus...I do have a question for a Catholic...one I had forgotten until reading an answer to a different question. I don't know if you saw the Passion of Christ...but if you did, tell me about this...remember the scene where Jesus is carrying the cross and the woman is seen at home. She leaves her home and meets Jesus in the street with a cup of water. This just seemed too much detail to be just something thought up for the movie. I felt it may be a tradition. Do you know the story behind the story? My Catholic friend with the most knowledge of the church hasn't seen the movie. I'd like to know the story if you know it...assuming there is a story here! Thanks.

10 | If God created all things He create evil | Bible general Archive 2 | 6 days | 124335
Just as there is no need to create darkness (darkness is the absence of light) there is no need to create evil (evil is the absence of good). When it's bed time, I don't ask my wife to turn on the dark...I ask her to turn off the light! The devil didn't discover evil...he rejected purity!
11 | Jesus brothers. | Matt 12:46 | 6 days | 124333
I'm just making my statement based upon friends I have and know well. Some of these are folks that went to Catholic schools k-12. They are friends with whom I debate various issues of interest to the church...Catholic as well as just plain Christian. These are folks who would call their priests on their phone when they had issues to discuss. Some of these people don't hold to issues you and MOST but not all Catholics hold dear. Unless the issue of the perpetual virginity of Mary is a litmus test of a Catholic, then there are Catholics that don't hold to this. If it is a tell-all for Catholics, maybe I need a list of other "musts". This could add more friendly discussion topics for me and my Catholic (or not) friends.
12 | Jesus brothers. | Matt 12:46 | 6 days | 124332
Thanks. I'm not here to fight with anyone...or cast someone away beacuse we go to different houses to worship Jesus! Didn't mean for my tone to be sharp...guess it was...second comment in that direction. I do enjoy debating the issues...but picking a fight doesn't achieve my purpose. I'll choose my words more carefully.

14 | Jesus brothers. | Matt 12:46 | 6 days | 124264
"All" is a pretty big word...you think your statement that all Catholics believe this might need to be examined? And a majority doesn't make it true. If you had read the Bible before reading the traditions of the Catholic Church, what conclusions would you have drawn? How much of your faith do you have to put in the traditions of the church before you can say with a straight face that JEsus had no brothers? I'm not picking an argument here...I just know that before you can explain a clear teaching of the Bible, you've got to put your faith in something you hold above God's Word. |

15 | How to resist "back to slavery" tempts? | Hos 8:3 | 6 days | 124252
Good question! I'm just glad the evil one hasn't chased you into a hole and made you feel as if you have no testimony! I'll agree that it is easier to tell others about ther Lord if you have no visible sin...but remember that even those like the Billy Grahams of the world stand in pulpits everyday all over the world while they still struggle with sin! They may have victiry over the sin that wars against you...but you may not struggle with the sin they wrestle with! Jesus isn't just there to cover your sin but to cleanse you and deliver you of it! Busy yourself with the work of the Lord and see if some of the sin you've wrestled with doesn't become a part of your past! Avoid those situations that often lead to sin! Spend more time in fellowship and minisrty (not just preaching/teaching/witnessing) but feeding others, visiting senior housing...you will see as you move on, you will become stronger! f you fall to the same sin over and over, change your surroundings and don't allow yourself to be in the situation that almost always preceeds sin! And continue in prayer and study! I'll pray for you, too!

17 | Biblical Inconsistencies? | 2 Tim 2:15 | 6 days | 124250
I don't claim to know every "toughie" but I've found answers to many of these by living the scripture Paul gave to Timothy in II Timothy 2:15...study...study...study! The Lord may have put a few of these in there to see who would throw up their hands and claim the Word is in error before they had the humility to say, "In all my fallible logic and reasoning, I've not yet found the answer to that seemingly errant scripture...but I'll keep digging!" Most of the "errors" tossed out there are solved with study of God's Word...not casual reading...but study! Happy Hunting! Just like a good hunting trip, find a partner who cherrishes God's Word as you do...it makes the hunting that much more enjoyable! |

19 | Jesus brothers. | Matt 12:46 | 6 days | 124248
The majority of Catholics stand by the tradition that Jesus had no brothers or sisters. I can't say that I agree that the majority of all Christians agree with this. After returning from the tomb, are we to believe the mother of James mentioned in Luke 24:10 wasn't Jesus' mom? ((Luke 24:10 (KJV) It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.)) It is made clear in Matthew (( Mt 27:56 (KJV) Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.)) that this wasn't James son of Zebedee. Realize that this Mary is the mother of James and Joses. Now read ((Mr 6:3 (KJV) Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.)) I think it is a reach to see references that are almost without debate referring to the virign Mary...and then see the last scripture which is without debate referring to Jesus' mom...and to say that this refers to Mary the mother of Jesus and the "aunt" of these referred to as Jesus' brothers and sisters. This is clearly saying that Mary was the mother of Jesus, James, Joses, Juda, Simon and his sisters...and then to say the Bible never teaches that Jesus had brothers and sisters. Not trying to offend but you are trying to make scripture fit tradition. Let God's Word stand on its own and if a tradition doesn't line up with God's Word, toss it! God's Word gives us liberty! |
