1 | I want to know more about suicide? | Ex 20:13 | JimD | 71068
Exodus 20:13 as part of God's law says "Thou shalt not murder". Also, in the New Testament in 1Cor.6:19-20 we read - "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." The Holy Bible, New King James Version, (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, Inc.) 1982. This clearly presents to us that we are not our own, we belong to God. Suicide is the ultimate rebellion against our Creator. Why do you even ask? Are you facing something you feel is to difficult to deal with or have you lost someone through suicide? Can you be more specific about why you ask this question? I would like to help if either is the case. Jim D. |

2 | Who were Cain's wife's parents? | Genesis | JimD | 70994
Cain's wife would have been a descendant of Adam and Eve. Keep in mind that they lived over 900 years and had many sons and daughters.
3 | ?Fellowship? | Lev 18:22 | JimD | 70991
Please understand that temptation is not sin. Even Jesus was tempted, but did not sin. If you want to see what a struggle temptation is for all of us look carefully at Romans 7. The whole chapter is about Paul's battle with sin. The things that he didn't want to do he did and the things he wanted to do he didn't do. We all face this struggle. If you have truly received Christ as your savior He has given you the Holy Spirit to dwell within you and to empower you to resist sin. Is it easy, no it is often difficult, especially if we have formed bad habits. However, looking further into Romans at chapter 8 first you will see that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ. Then verses 1-27 explain how the Holy Spirit empowers us to live for Christ. Also, Christ has given us the body of Christ to provide accountability, comfort, encouragement, teaching, motivation and most importantly prayer support to assist you in staying pure before the Lord. You may experience failures along the way, but God's grace is sufficient for you. Satan will condemn you, but God will lovingly convict you but never condemn you. |

4 | Homosexuality located where? | Lev 18:22 | JimD | 70927
In addition to Lev. 18:22 you will find reference in Lev. 20:13. Also, reference Gen. 19:1-11 the story of Lot in Sodom. From a Christian perspective look closely at Rom. 1:26-27 and note that God gave them up.
5 | Why is KJV so different from NASB? | Hag 2:7 | JimD | 70925
The KJV was translated in the early 1600s and the NASB translation work was launched in 1959. Both are very reliable translations but due to more ancient manuscripts that have been found and used I believe the NASB is perhaps the more accurate translation. Many commentators that I read on this passage believe the reference to the wealth of all nations is a reference to Messiah. I tend to hold that view also. Others say it is a reference to Jerusalem. Notice that the New King James Version capitalizes this way, "the Desire of All Nations" which more clearly points to a person (Messiah). Remember, the trasnlation is not inspired the original words given by God in the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek were verbally inspired. Using a translation like the NASB, KJV, NKJV will not lead a person astray from a doctrinal standpoint. Some of the more conversational translations such as the NIV are easier to read but do introduce some interpretation for the reader which may or may not be entirely correct. For serious study I prefer KJV, NKJV and NASB. |

6 | How much submitting must a woman do? | 1 Corinthians | JimD | 70788
I think it is interesting that Paul told the Ephesian church in Eph. 5:21 to submit yourselves to one another, before he says to women to submit yourselves to your husband. The husband is to love the wife as Christ loves the church, sacrificing Himself for her. The Christian wife should not be using abuse as an excuse to get out of the marriage, but should not allow herself or her children to be harmed. Sometimes I have found that the wife leaving with the children has been the thing that has brought the husband to true repentance. The purpose of leaving should be protection and for the pupose of bringing the abusive party to repentance. Foremost is to have your church in support of you. They should be there for your protection and council. Remember the purpose of temperally leaving is to bring the guilty party to repentance and then reconciliation. |

7 | Are tongues a world language or not? | 1 Corinthians | JimD | 70786
Bob, I think you've pretty much nailed it. Nothing should divide the Body of Christ. It is so interesting that people use passages that we intended to bring unity and make something out of it that has become so devisive. 1 Cor. 12, 13 and 14 are a unit that addresses some of the devisiveness in the Corinthian church. A study of spiritual gifts reveals that the gifts are distributed by the Holy Spirit (1Cor.12:11) and the members are set by God (1Cor. 12:18). God has determined what each of our gifts are. We should not neglect our gift (1Tim.4:14) and stir us the gift that is in us (2Tim.1:6). We should be praying, "Lord, show me what gift you have given me", and "Lord, empower me to use this gift to glorify yourself in my life." Also, I believe a study of 1Cor. 13 indicates that some gifts may not be permanent. I believe some of the sign gifts were given to authenticate the apostles and the early church but do not continue. It is interesting that Paul tells Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach and not "call for the faith healer". Also, the epistile of James tells us to call for the elders of the church and let them pray for the sick annointing them with oil. It also goes on to say the effectual fervant prayer of a righteous man availeth much. With the elders doing it no one person gets to make a show of the healing in the event God miraculously heals the person. My contention is if there really are miracle healers today why do they only "perform" on stage. Why aren't they at the hospitals healing everyone. Don't take me wrong I believe God does miraculously heal today. I just question what we see so much of today that appears to be show. Jesus didn't operate that way. |

8 | Adam and Eve the first people created? | Luke 17:1 | JimD | 70782
First, I would like to respond to your comment that "folklore would have us believe". The Bible says 2Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2 Tim 3:17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. The word for inspired in the original Greek means God breathed. Literally meaning the words are God's words. The human writers were in effect taking dictation from God. The thing that you said really stumped you is a very interesting point, but not to complex when you consider that the Hebrew name used here is Elohim which indicates a plural. Christians throughout church history have believed in one God who exists in three persons. These three are God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They operate as a single entity. This was the issue that many of the Jewish religious leaders had with Jesus. He pronounced Himself to be God. You can see this in John 1:1-3 and vs 14. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, the same was in the beginning with God......The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Also, in the Gospel accounts of the baptism of Jesus, you see the Father speaking from heaven, the Holy Spirit descending like a dove and the Son (Jesus) standing in the river. Jesus consistantly claimed to be the same as His Father in heaven. Those who claim He was just a good man are denying what He said about Himself. If he wasn't who He said He was then He was lying and was not a good man. Yet, all who have taken the time to honestly consider Jesus, His life and the life and death of those who followed Him come to the conclusion that He was in fact who He claimed to be. God. As a matter of fact over 500 eye-witnesses saw Him assend to heaven after His resurrection. You can read of these witnesses in 1Corinthians15:1-9. |

9 | If EGWhite wrote it where is it found? | Gen 6:3 | JimD | 70779
I personally believe those that say Noah preached 120 years are wrongly interpreting the passage of Gen. 6:3. Gen. 6:3 is stating that at the particular point in time that the Sons of God came into to the daughters of men and bore children, mighty men of renown that God saw the wickedness of mankind at that point and warned that in 120 years He would destroy the earth by flood to end that wickednss. I personally believe these "sons of God" were the fallen angels referred to in Jude 6 that didn't keep there abode (KJV says "first estate") just as Sodom and Gomorrah vs. 7. That's a very deep subject and probably to deep to get into now. |
