1 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194257
  Morning Star: Satan OR JESUS??
This is a bit confusing....both
are referred to with this title.
I don't know how to figure out if
it is the same Hebrew (or Greek)
word or if they have different meanings?
Some help would be appreciated?
2 1JN4 Testing the spirits 1 John 1:1 starfire 193217
  I have several questions about 1JN 4:1-9.
It tells us to TEST the spirits and that every spirit that ACKNOWLEDGES and CONFESSES ....
What does this mean??
Satan acknowledges that
Jesus is Lord, but confesses?? I don't understand that. I'd think it would mean to PROCLAIM
or verbally state, but satan and his dominions lie. They could SAY they believe Jesus is Lord
and they've acccepted Him as THEIR LORD, the Son of God, come in the flesh, but be lying...

Also it says that acknowledges that JESUS CHRIST is Lord....
I was told that CHRIST is just a title, which meant Messiah or Rabbi.

In this day and age we NEED to seek our
Lord MORE than EVER and in doing so, must not be tricked. I heard satan puts
thoughts in our minds so we might think
it's God responding to us when it is not. (And not all can be looked up in
the bible...for example if we are praying for the answer as to whether we
should choose this job or that one, etc)

Thank you for any insight you might offer.
3 Matt 25:5 Why Bridegroom delayed?? Matt 25:5 starfire 190825
What were some of the reasons the bridegroom was
delayed? There was no polygamy in Jesus' day
so was this referring to the customs/rituals of
Jewish followers from years prior to Jesus??

I know the parable was to illustrate the need for
readiness for Christ's return to claim the church
(His bride), but am confused as to why the delay
and why 10 bridesmaids...were they all to be brides of the groom or were they attendants to
the bride? (Just wanting to comprehend the customs
with this part of my question).
Thank you

4 Anthology of Notes and StudyHelps?? Bible general Archive 3 starfire 177537
  Hello,
When I study my bible I find I switch
continuously between about 5 or so bibles to read all the differences in
both translations and in notes-study helps. I know there is a parallel
bible, but I am wondering IF there is
such a thing as an anthology of bible
notes that collects the notes from various bibles into one book and includes as MUCH of the study helps as
is possible. I like to read a variety
because I find that many skip the verse
I need clarification on or many may offer a different perspective, which
is helpful also. Ex. in Genesis 19:8
where Lot offers his virgin daughters
to the MOB wanting to literally rape
the 2 men(angels) Lot was hosting.
I cringed to my very core, I was soooo
appalled. Searched and searched for some rational as to HOW
LOT could DO that and still (in later
passages) be considered a Godly man.

One study bible said it showed the depravity that one comes to accept when
living so close to the boundaries of
sin, another said it was because in those times, protecting guests was above all else (huh?) and finally another bible said that knowing the
mob was homosexual, they wanted the MEN,
not the daughters and would very likely
turn down the offer, but Lot was trying
to buy time to protect the guests and
diffuse the mob.

I know of no such study help (NOT a commentary, but an ANTHOLOGY of comments
made by various authors on each verse
of scripture). It would be GREAT if
it exists.

Thank you in advance
5 Give whatever to whomever?Mt 5:40 Lk6:29 Bible general Archive 3 starfire 175787
  Matt 5:40 and Luke 6:29
Need to better understand these two passages.
Not sure how to respond in a situation regarding
inheritance and do not know if these apply
(to give whatever to whomever), or if honoring our
father and mother would take precidence
Please help me understand.
6 Are we to give ALL to anyone wanting it? Bible general Archive 3 starfire 175742
Referring to Matt 5:40 and Luke 6:29, are we to let everyone who wants it have what is ours?? I'm confused.
My stepmom(didn't raise us or contribute to my parents' home or savings..married my dad AFTER he retired and my mom died)
destroyed my dad's will, claiming everything for herself (even down to
my parent's wedding bands and my grandparent's picture). She refuses
to turn over anything. By law, without
a will, 1/4 of the home is mine. She abused my father horribly in the last years of his life and has lived there rent free now for years. Finally I just
want closure and told her lawyer to liquidate my portion. She refuses to sell the house or buy me out.
(She has 20x the amount of cash it
would take to buy me out, so money is not the issue, she just wants to be
mean) I was told I have no recourse other than to sue her to release my portion. My sister is unemployed,in
her 50s and living in a horrendously dangerous area of town so I can't just
tell my stepmom to keep it without endangering my sis's future. Also,
I feel it would dishonor both of my
parents as they worked their whole lives for this house. Incidently, my
father's intent was for the kids to get half of everything which would have been valued at about 6 times what the house is worth. By destroying the will,
she got to keep it all, except for 1/4
of the house, but now refuses to turn that over as well. Reading scripture,
I'm not sure what I am to do....
honor my mother and father or give my
stepmom everything, even if it means
my sister or I could end up homeless?
Any Godly counsel out there??
Thank you

Matt 5:40 "If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.
2 Luke 6:29 "Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

7 If we defend ourselves, God WON'T?? Acts 26:2 starfire 174684
Some TV ministries say we are *not* to
defend ourselves when falsely accused
as Jesus did not when Pilate questioned
Him. Is this true? (I don't know of
any other verses that are clear on this
topic) Supposedly when we do, God will not defend us. I'm concerned as I'm
involved in a legal matter where I've
been (falsely) accused of causing "trouble". I responded, pointing
out that I've had ZERO contact with the
individual making this claim and enumerated several things I'd done in their behalf PRIOR to this false accusation. I then requested that without specific incident their lawyer refrain from such labels. WAS I WRONG
and now IN THIS -ALONE- as God will no
longer defend me even though I am innocent??
Thank you
8 Are menstrual cloths disgusting to God?? Is 64:6 starfire 159039
Delicate Question....Isa 64:6 From my study, the "filthy rags" described in this passage
meant menstrual cloths.

I was so hurt when reading this passage- that God
would use a natural function that He gave women
to describe something so horribly disgusting to
Him....If anyone can shed light on this, please
do so because as I originally saw it, you could
also then gleam that God sees our menstrual
cloths (used to cope with a normal bodily function
that HE gave us) as disgustingly vile to Him.

I've prayed and asked the Holy Spirit for some inspiration..IF it was truly His beloved voice, and not some random thought my brain pieced together I got this:

1) Eve didn't menstruate (blood brings forth life) until AFTER the fall and that childbearing
was her punishmentfor her sin so it is a monthly
reminder of the initial sin that separated us from God.

2)Also because to the Jews in that day,
any bodily function involving any form of
secretion was considered "unclean" (not
sure what that means, but obviously not acceptable).

All other fluids and elimination, or whatever you wish to call them as well as whatever materials
that were used to cleanse the body (leaves??)
were immediately disposed of, but cloth was not in abundance so the rags had to be cleaned and
saved from month to month for additional use.
Can anyone who has studied this passage tell me if I'm on track with what I believe was the Holy Spirit's guidance?? If I am not, please enlighten me.
Thank you!
9 Alive and REMAIN?What choice do we have? 1 Thess 4:17 starfire 152055
Why does it say, "Then we, the living ones who
remain [on the earth]" (AMP version) ????
I've looked through various translations and
they all say it this way -Alive and Remain..
some even italicize the and to indicate both
words are crucial to the statement.

Where else would people who are alive be? I
think every thing in the bible is for a reason,
what is the reason to say "remain"??
What does "remain" mean in this verse since we
believers are either alive and on earth (no
options there) or not alive and with Christ??
Perhaps it is for emphasis, but then what is
being emphasized? That we are alive when
many have already been killed/martyred??
Sorry if this sounds trivial, but
I really want to grasp the fullest possible
meaning. Thanks

11 Jn3:16 ;1Jn2:15 Do/don't love the world John 3:16 starfire 150892
  Hello!
I'm confused! In John 3:16 we are told:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

So God(The FATHER as He gave His SON) LOVED the world, but we are NOT to love the world or the
love of the FATHER is not in us! If we love the
world that HE loved, that doesn't make sense to me?? I mean if we are to model our lives after
God, especially Christ, who gave his very life in
such a sacrificial way for those of the world...
(and there was obviously plenty of evil in His
day as well), then this confuses me.
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Any help would be appreciated.
Also, I was a bit frightened by something I heard
the other day from a telecast minister. He said
that IF we cannot understand the bible, that the
Holy Spirit is not within us because those whom
the Holy Spirit indwells, He teaches and suddenly
the bible will have meaning, that the bible itself
becomes it's own best commentary.

I know the Holy Spirit is within me, but am I
somehow doing something wrong that I'm not able
to understand many passages? (If the Holy Spirit
should be enlightening me, perhaps somehow I am
not being responsive??) If this is so, and you
have any similar experience, I'd love some
guidance.
Thank you
12 "Wonderful" How to do word study??? Judg 13:18 starfire 148883
Does anyone know how I might study what the
root of this word "wonderful" is? I looked in
my NASB concordance, and it just gives a few
words...Perhaps there is another study source
that defines words at *length* in their original
form and then shows you *all* the passages in
the bible where this same word is used. Is there
such a resource and if so, what is it called?
Thank you
13 Offspring?Long Life? Is 53:10 starfire 148849
I found my same questions (listed below)
at a Jewish site regarding this passage,
which included the information on the
Hebrew word study for "seed" (or offspring)
used in this passage. Any light would be appreciated. :

53:10 "He shall see his seed." The Hebrew word for "seed", used in this verse, always refers to physical descendants in our Jewish Scriptures. See, e.g., Gen. 12:7; Gen. 15:13; Gen. 46:6; Ex. 28:43. A different word, generally translated as "sons", is used to refer to spiritual descendants (see Deut. 14:1, e.g.).

53:10 "He will prolong his days." Not only did Jesus die young, but how could the days be prolonged of someone who is alleged to be God?
14 Darkness AND Light SIMULTANEOUSLY??? Gen 1:3 starfire 148848
(So sorry..new here...I think I put this in the wrong place before)..

How could God's spirit (LIGHT) move
across the DARK waters and there not be light?
His very presence is light. How could both
exist simultaneously? And why did He only create
the LIGHT? Why did the darkness not require creation? But what was the dark??
Man was sinless before he fell, so it is not sin??
Obviously, I'm confused.
