-Joe! I agree with you on much of what you stated. I believe that is a misunderstanding of our part to try to convey to each other what we really mean doctrinally when we discuss theological issues. First, I am not an Arminian, although those of the Reformed faith accuse me of being so. I am an ex-Calvinist who after many years of careful study of God's word could no longer accept all the teachings of Calvinism, especially the teaching of Limited Atonement which I personally find to be unBibical. I simply prefer to be called a Christian ... a follower of Christ Jesus my Savior and Lord. I prefer not to be labeled a follower of mortal men like Calvin, Arminius, Luther, Wesley, Spurgeon, etc. etc. I say this to help you better understand where I am coming from. I agree 100 percent with your following statements in your post. "man's inability and unwillingness to come to Christ unless persuaded to do so by the Holy Spirit. Those persuaded to do so will willingly embrace Him, and those not persuaded to do so will willingly reject Him. Our wills are constrained by our nature, and our sinful natures must be changed supernaturally" "We do have free will, and our depraved nature makes us want nothing but sin (Romans 3:10-18). Until God changes us, that is all we will ever want, and we are unable to want anything else" "Effectual calling is the work of God's Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and renewing our will, he doth persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel." ", it is God who enlightens our minds (not us), God who enables us to embrace Christ (not us), and God who renews our wills (which were previously contrained by our fallen, depraved natures), and God who persuades us to trust in Christ (we trust, but it is God who must persuade us to do so" Just so you know I am not in total disagreement with you. 25 | Book of Jasher | Bible general Archive 1 | zach† | 34550
Brother Tim: I am relatively new to this forum and was reading some of your past posts which I find to be very Bibically based. Concerning this post and the mention of the lost Book of Jasher, I have found this site which has the entire work and also warns of false versions of the same book. I have been cautiously reading this non-Cannonized book, and find it very interesting to say the least. I don't see where any poetry can be found in it. But then again I am only about half-way through reading it. Maybe you could check it out at the following web-site address http://www.ccel.org/a/anonymous/jasher/home.html If you ever get the time to look into it please let me know your thoughts concerning this find. Brother Tim; Thank you for your speedy response. I am looking forward to other response from you. From what I have read from your posts so far, I believe that you express my very thoughts on the subjects in a much plainer and better outlined way than I could. With the love of Christ zach† |

Lionstrong I welcome all honest inquiries and discussions on this topic, not expecting others to agree with my position, even though I believe I have scriptural support for the topics I discuss. I believe ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God. 2 Tim. 3:16. Not just the verses I pick and choose. And I know and believe you feel the same way also. Thank you In Christ zach† |

Benjamite; Thank you for your response, and also for the scripture references. Can you, or anyone else reading this, go into anymore detail about the following part of my initial question? Can you provide any scripture references to answer this? Is sanctification entirely a work of God, or does the believer have to co-operate in the sanctification process? In Christ zach† |

Benjamite; I enjoyed your response. I hope you don't mind if I ask another question or two. Do we surrender, submit , and yield ourselves to His molding influences? Can we refuse to daily submit to what He wants to accomplish in us and through us? Is surrender a once done act, or is it something which needs to be done daily? I would appreciate your sediments on this, because I believe it continues to relate to what we have been discussing. In Christ zach† |

Searcher; I find it interesting that you state that the work of sanctification is entirely a work of God. Are you referring to positional sanctification or progressive sanctification or both? Then you stated that you believe that the Bibical commands to holiness and perfection involve joint effort on the part of God and the believer This would lead me to ask 1) How would you define sanctification, and 2) how would you define holiness and perfection In Christ zach† |

Benjamite Once again I need to say, I am enjoying this discussion with you. So I hope you forgive me for asking more questions, which continue to help me collect my thoughts. Concerning the maturity part of the life of a believer, I think you will agree that growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus takes time, which is to say it too is a process. When we are born again, we are not born as mature Christian's but as spiritual babes in Christ. And a baby needs time to grow and mature. New-borns need milk and are unable to chew meat. They crawl instead of walk or run. But give them time and they begin to mature. The same can be said of fruit. Fruit begins with a bud, advances to become a flower, then appears the young fruit. But it is not mature, it needs to be watered and exposed to the sun, before it can be said to be ready to harvest. So we too need to be watered and our exposure is to the Son. Let me throw out a Tozer quote that may relate to this. Tozer said: "To any who might object that we cannot fashion ourselves, that God alone can fashion us, we offer this explanation: A young man decides he wants the benefits of a healthy tan. Now, does he tan himself or does the sun tan him? Of course the answer is that he tans himself by exposing himself to the sun. He has to bring himself into contact with the sun's rays and the sun will take care of the rest. So we fashion ourselves by exposing our lives to the moulding influences. good or bad, that lie around us. I would appreciate your further comments In Christ† |

38 | How do I study the bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | zach† | 37100
Dear brother Tim; Ocassionally I find myself wondering through past postings in this forum. As I did, I found this past post of yours. While meditating on this subject I began to recall something which, in the past I read from "Of God and Men" In that book, A.W. Tozer made the following interesting statement concerning our methods of Bible study; "Here's how the file card works when it gets into the Christian life and begins to create mental habits: It divides the Bible into sections fitted to the days of the year, and compels the Christian to read according to rule. No matter what the Holy Spirit may be trying to say to a man, still he goes on reading where the card tells him, dutifully checking it off each day. Every Spirit led saint knows that there are times when he is held by an inward pressure to one chapter, or even one verse, for days at a time while he wrestles with God till some truth does its work within him. To leave that present passage to follow a prearranged reading schedule is for him wholly impossible. He is in the hand of the free Spirit, and reality is appearing before him to break and humble and lift and liberate and cheer. given to each one ..... Those responsible for the activities of churches and gospel workers must look out for the file-card snare. It is a deadly thing and works to quench the spontaneous operation of the Spirit." I only send this reply concerning this topic, because in my own personal Bible study time, I have found this statement of Tozer's to be very true. God many times has had me wrestle with certain portions of scripture for months and even years. Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee zach† |

Brother Tim; I went to your churches web-site to look around, and the most amazing thing I found there was a picture of you. Now whenever I get correspondence and reply's from you I have a face to attach to the replys. I think that makes a difference in your replies. I also have a confession to make; I believe I have unknowingly become an Arminian. I started out in my new life in Christ as being in agreement with the Reformed position, but after continually studying God's word, I came to a fork in my spiritual road. I had to either believe God's word or certain denominations positions on doctrine. When push came to shove, God's word became my final authority and now I can no longer accept as true all of the Reformed faiths position. The point I am trying to make is: It was not through any man's teachings that I gradually began to move gradually more and more away from Calvinistic teaching and more and more in the Arminian direction, but that has come about only through the clear teachings of Scripture. So today even if I am an Arminian, I consider that to be because I am a Biblicist first. Grace and peace be multiplied unto thee brother; zach† |

Unscriptural Antinomianism quotes by "Eternal Security teachers; Now if you read the quotes below and agree with them and those that teach such error, then the Bible and Divine teaching must by necessity take a back-seat to human interpretation "believers who lose or abandon their faith will retain their salvation" (Charles Stanley) found on page 94 of his book: Eternal Security: Can You Be Sure? "When you are born again by the grace of Almighty God,...It doesn't make any difference how wicked and how vile you act." (Charles Stanley) (Eternal Security You Can Be Sure) (Part 2, Tape #4, RH190 "even those who walk away from the faith have not the slightest chance of slipping from His hand." (Charles Stanley) from page 74 of from his book; Eternal Security Can You Be Sure? "Even if a believer, becomes an unbeliever, his salvation is not in jeopardy." (Charles Stanley) from page 93 of his book: Eternal Security, Can You Be Sure? "You can sin like the devil down here and... you won't lose your salvation." (Charles Stanley) in his audio tape #3, MH190 "believers who become agnostics are still saved; they are still born again. You can even become an atheist; but if you once accepted Christ as saviour, you cannot lose your salvation, even though you deny God" as quoted in The Gospel According To Jesus by John F. MacArthur, p. 98, May God save us from accepting doctrine, that must be defended by such fallacious reasoning. Quotes not found in the Bible: 1. Once saved always saved 2. Once in grace always in grace 3. Once a son, always a son |
