1542 | By What Right Does God Rule Man? | Ps 2:11 | stjohn | 188307
Hello Lookin! I've mist you! This is a very confusing statement. "It does not seem to me that being Creator, in and of itself, does not give God a legitimate right to rule man." Because of the double negative. What you are in fact saying is that you do think that God has a legitimate right to rule man. But, you have been talking as if you don't think so. Witch is true? Would you say that God the father was abusive by giving His Son to pay for your sins? God Bless John |

1543 | Saying "AMEN"...outloud? | Deut 27:20 | stjohn | 188292
Online Etymology Dictionary - Cite This Source amen O.E., from L.L. amen, from Gk. amen, from Heb., "truth," used adverbially as an expression of agreement (e.g. Deut. xxvii.26, I Kings i.36; cf. Mod.Eng. verily, surely, absolutely in the same sense), from Sem. root a-m-n "to be trustworthy, confirm, support." Used in O.E. only at the end of Gospels, otherwise translated as Soðlic! or Swa hit ys, or Sy!. As an expression of concurrence after prayers, it is recorded from c.1230. Online Etymology Dictionary, © 2001 Douglas Harper Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary - Cite This Source Amen This Hebrew word means firm, and hence also faithful (Rev. 3:14). In Isa. 65:16, the Authorized Version has "the God of truth," which in Hebrew is "the God of Amen." It is frequently used by our Saviour to give emphasis to his words, where it is translated "verily." Sometimes, only, however, in John's Gospel, it is repeated, "Verily, verily." It is used as an epithet of the Lord Jesus Christ (Rev. 3:14). It is found singly and sometimes doubly at the end of prayers (Ps. 41:13; 72:19; 89:52), to confirm the words and invoke the fulfilment of them. It is used in token of being bound by an oath (Num. 5:22; Deut. 27:15-26; Neh. 5:13; 8:6; 1 Chr. 16:36). In the primitive churches it was common for the general audience to say "Amen" at the close of the prayer (1 Cor. 14:16). The promises of God are Amen; i.e., they are all true and sure (2 Cor. 1:20). 1544 | Are there any scriptures for the rapture | 2 Pet 3:10 | stjohn | 188279
Hi M.Royal Given the message in 1thess 5:8-10, v8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. v9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, v10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. My friend maybe you haven't taken a good look at what go's on in the Great Tribulation, But the (Wrath of God) is quite frightening, and very devastating, and I don't see much hope, in a post trib view of salvation. God In his Word makes is Very clear that he has NOT appointed His own for the wrath. Unless you can clear up this discrepancy in a post trib rapture, I would have to categorically reject a post trib rapture. and furthermore, I don't see how it carries out what we are told to do in verse 1Thess 5:11 "Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing." Quite on the contrary, I see a post trib Rapture as very discouraging, and therefore not doing what Scripture tells us to do. I would encourage you, to take another look my friend. Are you in the will of God teaching that he has appointed his children to wrath? We have a very gracious God, and a wonderful saviour in Jesus Christ, Lets look at the entire counsel of the Holly writ before we make a judgment on one part, and especially a part that should hold (hope) for God's Children, and not confusion and dismay. God bless. John |

1545 | Are there any scriptures for the rapture | 2 Pet 3:10 | stjohn | 188225
Hi Mr Royal Just a thought, ..... But, Jesus doesn't really come to earth in the rapture. please note that he meats us in the air. 1 Thess 4:17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. This is just a guess, but I think this would qualify as a Scripture that does not relate to his coming in judgment. So, Paul pretty clearly teaches otherwise. What do you think? Could you show me please, where in Matthew, is the rapture? God bless. John |

Hi InGodITrust, This is not Gingerbreezie; this is John. you did it again, :-) you sent the note to me, if you want the intended recipient of your note to get it, you must click on their note, and not the last one in the string. Don't worry your not the only one that does that, ;-) God bless. John Ps. I agree with your post to MR by the way. Amen, we need to keep a good balance, and not get bogged down in one thought. I'd like to add to your assertion of context context context, content and grammar. Not to admonish you, Or MRoyal, but just to add my thoughts on that subject. I like the idea of looking at the verse, then the chapter, then the book, and then the counsel of the entire word of God. And above all; the counsel of the Holly Spirit! Amen. Good to have you aboard! |

Hi Gingerbreezie; Warm welcome to the forum. Well, the Book of Daniel is quite voluminous in scope, and I'm certainly no expert on any of the Bible, but without you asking something just a little more specific, it would be next to impossible to come even close to covering what is being taught in that book in the space provided here, even if I was qualified to answer your very tall question. Can you help a little with something specific? And If I cant help, and there is a good chance of that, then I'm sure there is someone here that would be glad to help. God bless. John |

Thanks Hank. I am certainly not proud of it, but was praying for more support from others as well, but I'll take what I can get. it seem to me we could be more in one accord when it comes to dealing with an unbelieving trouble maker such as this. He is obviously playing games with God's Holly Word, and I for one am quite tired of it. Thanks again and God bless, I really appreciate everything I have read by you, by the way... So far that is. ;-) God Bless. John |

1551 | Is It Human to Sin? | Gen 1:27 | stjohn | 188091
Dear sister Azure, Thank you for your heartfelt concern, it is greatly appreciated. I liked your story very much. It is a good reminder to be tolerant to unbelieving ingrates, such as this user. I would like to assure you that I am not angry with him, and you need not be concerned for me to let the sun go down on my anger. I have no anger for him, only pity, and perhaps indignation. He has been feed scripture after scripture and to no avail, his obvious disrespect and unbelief continues to shine through. There comes a time for discernment in a situation like this and I think that we have been patient with him but it is time I believe to ask him, in no uncertain terms to cease and desist from this kind of childish and disrespectful behavior. Remember that our Lord called the unbelieving Pharisees sons of the devil. And I know that when He rejected Israel, He did so with tears, but, Reject them He did! Our Lord also tells a story of an ungrateful servant, and he is cast out, into outer darkness. God bless. John |

1552 | Do you have any scriptures? | 2 Thess 2:3 | stjohn | 188047
Dear MR... In the spirit of 2Thess 2:3a "Let no one in any way deceive you," You seem to be ether unable or unwilling to answer a direct question. This line of discussion is confusing and apparently evasive. You say that you are holding to something you have. May I ask what that is? May I ask if you have a motive in this? I apologize if I am off base, but I am confused by your methods. Perhaps you could please make your point, as I am having trouble following. God bless. John |

1554 | Abraham at 134 | Genesis | stjohn | 187935
Hi InGodITrust, Warm welcome to the Forum. We have no reason to assume that Abraham's stuff was not working at 99 when it was only about 13 or 14 years earlier when he fathered Ishmael. The miracle, was that Sarah had been barren. Gen 21:1 Then the LORD took note of Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had promised. 2 So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him. God bless. John |

1555 | What qualifies a cultist? | Is 43:7 | stjohn | 187623
Hi P25 Well,... By definition, I think he would be a cultist. Doesn't mater what my opinion is really. If his definition of The Trinity, differs from, Jesus is God, the Holly Spirit is God, and, the father is God. I'd say, yes, he is defiantly a cultist. God bless. John |

1558 | What was the purpose of the law? | Gal 3:23 | stjohn | 187559
Hi Mark, I'd say that this makes a pretty good case for prevenient grace. The system of justice that is given to God's people by the law, is laid aside, and God says, come and reason with me. But in our way of thinking this makes no sense. If we read this chapter, we see that God is condemning Israel on the one hand, and on the other hand offering, Grace and Mercy! Is 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. And, unfortunately for Israel, and for so many today, they allow themselves, to be judged under the law! What a wonderful saviour we have! God bless. John |

Thanks Mark! And amen again, the Holy Spirit for sure! I have found that I don't know how I know that I know what I know, but, when I hear it or see it, I know it. You know? ;-) The pleasure is mine brother, and I am glad to have found this place as well. SBF has been a blessing to me, seldom am I challenged in my daily walk to study Gods word as I am here at the Forum. By the way, It looks like poor old brother Hank and brother Colin have about lost it.... That's really a shame, don't you think? And its really a shame too! Don't you think? God bless. John |

1560 | Christians? | Matt 7:21 | stjohn | 187499
Hi Mark, Amen, I would agree there are some Cases were the original may be of benefit. But if one reads the text carefully, one can usually discern the difference without the need to know how to speak or read any other language, other then the one the individual is reading in. Like for-instance, if I spoke and read in Latin I'm sure I could get what god wanted me to get by simply reading the vulgate translation. Also if you look please at the example that I used to illustrate that one can most often discern the difference by simply reading the story. i.e. Easu sought Isaac's repentance with the sobs of a spoiled brat. He obviously was not asking Isaac to turn from sin, but just to change his mind. I hope you can see my point when I take exception to a statement like "we shouldn't use Webster's dictionary," but go to the Hebrew to gain an understanding. Forgive me, but to make a statement like that is hogwash! Pure and simple! And it implies, in my opinion, that the one making it is narrow minded, and putting themselves on a pedestal. Sorry, but thats how it looks from my end of the woods. I may have a lot of trees around me but I haven't mist the forest. I agree and was never implying that I didn't think further study was necessary, on the contrary, it is always a good thing to further ones education. But as you say, " So while I say the English translation doesn't "steer us wrong", we can get a little closer to the target with a little more homework." Well, I cant really add anything to that statement, it is right on the money. A (little) closer to the target with a (little) more homework. I would like to add if I may, that I believe that God has made sure that we can get what we need from reading the Bible in whatever language we may read or speak, and there are literally hundreds of languages that the Bible has been translated in. So please lets try to keep everything in perspective. Most of us only speak one language. Thanks Mark, I always enjoy your input on the forum. You are always kind and gentlemanly, but I could take a lesson in that area from most anyone. :-) God bless. John |
