Hi Psalm 46:10, This verse you have chosen will supply you with the core of your answer. "Be still," He says, "and know that I am God." Without knowing any more than I do about your situation, I can say this. God has a plan. Since your daughters are now living with their father and step-mother, your control and influence will be somewhat limited in their lives. But the Holy Spirit has full access to their hearts. There are a number of factors at work here, the fashion culture of the times, the rebelliousness of teenagers, the influence of those around them, and their own internal sense of propriety and taste. But all of these things are either allowed free reign, or are brought into submission to God, and so I believe the main factor to be their relationship with God. As their parent, as much as is possible for you, it is your responsibility to set a Godly example, to provide Godly rules and guidelines, and to train them in Godly principles and behaviors. Again, since they do not live with you, you may be limited in what you can do. One powerful tool that is available to you is prayer. Pray for their spiritual growth, daily, hourly, constantly. Pray that they be protected from the evil influences of our culture. Our attire, while important, is more a reflection of what is inside of us. If we are Godly in our hearts, we will be Godly in our wardrobe. When possible, since they are your children, establish controls on what they can and can't wear. If possible, prayerfully discuss your concerns with their father and stepmother. But focus your energies and opportunities on their spiritual growth, knowing that our Father in Heaven will see to their sanctification. It is God who changes hearts, and it is our hearts that must be changed. I hope this somehow helps, and I will join you in prayer for these girls. Love in Christ, Mark |

What biblical prophecies are being fulfilled today? 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (1) And this know thou, that in the last days there shall come perilous times, (2) for men shall be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, evil-speakers, to parents disobedient, unthankful, unkind, (3) without natural affection, implacable, false accusers, without self control, fierce, not lovers of those who are good, (4) traitors, heady, lofty, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, (5) having a form of piety, and its power having denied; and from these be turning away, |

Hi Magellan, I apologise for seeming disrespectful, but the truth is, the Bible makes no mention of any humans being in the world except Adam, Eve, and their descendants. If you wish to speculate on others being there, ok, sure, but one speculation is as good as the next. Although, thinking about it, the Little People would probibly produce something opposite of the Nephilim, so that may not be the best example. "And there were shrunken people on the earth in those days..." - Not! What Hebrew text or translation can you cite that actually and explicitly states there were no other children born to Adam and Eve prior to Seth? I would suggest to you that particularly in Hebrew writings, the order of events is not always clearly protrayed in the order of writing. More commonly, the more important events are given first, even when other events which are recorded later actually happened earlier. But nonetheless, I look for specific statements in Scripture. If it's a matter of filling in the blanks, well, we could fill them in in different ways. So I just don't find your argument compelling, and it goes against the idea that mankind was corrupted by one man's, Adam's, sin. How did Adam pass his sin to all men if there were others who were not his descendants? There is a direct Biblical Explanation for where all people came from. God created Adam, from Adam made Eve, and told them to fill the world with people. But I think Acts 17:26 is the most clear in saying that all of mankind came from a common physical source, from Adam. Love in Christ, Mark |

2 Peter 3:3-5 “knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,” This verse tells us that there will be those who say that “all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation”, describing the evolutionary theory, and that they choose to forget that God, by His Word, created the heavens and the earth. This is a prophecy of the last days, which has been fulfilled in our school textbooks. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. This verse says much in what it assumes. Paul, the writer, is speaking of the Day of the LORD, when God will judge the earth. The man of sin, who we commonly call the antichrist, will “sit in the temple”. This means there will be a temple. This also means there will be an Israel. For hundreds of years people could not figure out how this could happen. Then the modern Israel was born in 1948, and now there is a Temple Institute in Jerusalem. This institute not only has architectural plans for a temple, they have all the materials, the temple furnishings, special oil and incense, altars, priests robes, everything needed to build a temple and establish temple worship. This will be one of the next things to happen, but might not happen until after the church has been removed from the earth (the rapture). Daniel 9:27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. This verse assumes there will be temple worship during the last 7 years period, known as the Tribulation, before Jesus returns. The rapture will happen before this 7-year period. Daniel 9:24 "Seventy weeks [weeks of years] are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy. 25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. 26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate." These verses contain the outline of prophecy from the time the Jews are allowed to rebuild Jerusalem following the Babylonian captivity. Basically, it says, that there will be seventy weeks of seven years each to complete everything. Starting when the command is given to rebuild the city with its wall [given by King Artexerses of Persia in 445 BC], it will be 490 years. This time will be divided into a) 49 years to rebuild the city, b) 434 more years “until Messiah the Prince”, and c) a 7 year covenant during which the sacrifices will be stopped. Sir Robert Anderson wrote a book called “The Coming Prince” showing the math of how Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem as the Messiah on the very day predicted in Daniel, about 570 years before it happened. Then Daniel says the Messiah will be “cut off, but not for himself”. Jesus was killed on a cross for you and me. Next, Daniel tells us that the city and the sanctuary [Jerusalem and the temple] will be destroyed. This also indicates that there is a gap between the 69th and 70th week. The final week of 7 years is the time described in Revelation, a time when God will plead with the people of the earth one last time to turn to Him, then will judge those who refuse. There are hundreds upon hundreds of predictive prophecies made in the Bible that have been literally fulfilled. There are many more we see in the process of being fulfilled today. There is no other explanation for this, than that the Author of this book, The Bible, is outside of our space-time continuum, able to see it from beginning to end, and able to reach inside it to communicate with us. |

The constant warring between the Jews and the Arabs was prophesied in Genesis 25:21-24 “Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived. But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If all is well, why am I like this?" So she went to inquire of the LORD. And the LORD said to her: "Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older [Esau, the father of the Arabs] shall serve the younger [Jacob, the father of the Jews]." So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.” These children literally fought from before birth. Jesus, in 32 AD, prophesied the destruction of the temple by the Romans, which happened in 70 AD. Matthew 24:1-2 “Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down." The Roman general Titus had ordered the soldiers to not harm the temple, just destroy the rest of Jerusalem. The temple was completely covered with gold inside, and much of the outside, and he wanted it intact, in Roman hands, as a trophy. However, someone threw a torch or something into it, and the temple burned. The gold melted, and ran between all the stones. In order to recover the gold, Titus ordered every stone taken down, and the gold removed. Jesus’ prophecy was literally fulfilled. |

Bible Prophecy Perhaps the most important proof of the accuracy of the Bible is its predictive prophecy. No other “religious writing” has a body of prophecy as does the Bible. Ones that do are small in scope, very nebulous, and not always accurate. Approximately two thirds of the Bible is prophetic. Isa 44:6 "Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God. 7 And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me, Since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come, Let them show these to them. 8 Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.'" Isa 46:9 Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, 'My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,' God challenges other to do as He does, declaring things that have not yet happened, proving that He is God, that He alone knows the future. Isaiah 41:22-23 "Let them bring forth and show us what will happen; Let them show the former things, what they were, That we may consider them, And know the latter end of them; Or declare to us things to come. Show the things that are to come hereafter, That we may know that you are gods;” Israel became a nation in about 1400 BC. There was a civil war in 988 BC, and the nation was divided into Israel in the north, and Judah in the south. Because they turned away from God, Israel was conquered by the Assyrians in 728 BC. Before this happened, those of Israel that were faithful to the LORD had moved to Judah. The people of Judah were taken captive by the Babylonians in 606 BC because of their disobedience to God, then allowed to return to their land in 536 BC, but not under their own government. They were ruled by the Medes and Persians, then the Greeks, then the Romans. The Roman army, in response to the Jews revolutionary activities, scattered the Jews throughout the world, utterly destroyed Jerusalem, including their temple, and converted the country to a wasteland by cutting down all the trees, spreading salt over the ground, and they renamed the area Palestine, after the Jews’ centuries old enemy, the Philistines. No nation has ever returned to self-rule in its own land after being treated this way. Israel became a nation again, in their original land, after a 1,879-year exile, and after 2,484 years since having their own government. The Bible predicted this in the following verses: Ezekiel 36:24 "For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. Isaiah 66:7-8 "Before she was in labor, she gave birth; Before her pain came, She delivered a male child. Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion [another name for Israel] was in labor, She gave birth to her children. Ezekiel 36:30 "And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations. Ezekiel 36:34-35 "The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. So they will say, 'This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.' Isaiah 27:6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob [Jacob was the father of Israel] to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit. Ezekiel 37:21-22 "Then say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. This is what God has done. He brought the children of Israel out of all countries, to a desert wasteland that no one wanted, and now they have cultivated it, and planted trees everywhere, and changed the climate. Now it is a garden land, and everyone around wants it. |

The Bible backs up its claim to be authored by God with a profound accuracy. There has been no scientific, medical, archeological, or historical fact discovered that has ever disproven the Bible. This is a sampling of the scientific statements made in the Bible: Job 38:31 "Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades,” This is the only constellation visible from earth that is actually bound together by gravity. Isa 40:22 “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” Isaiah wrote of the round earth, while other cultures thought the earth was flat. Modern physics understands that the universe was actually stretched, producing a red shift in the light from stars. Job 26:7 “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” Astronomers have discovered that directly above the earth’s north pole, is an area of space strangely devoid of stars. This is not noticible without a reasonably powerful telescope. And Job wrote that the earth hangs on nothing, as other cultures believed the earth rode on the back of a giant tortiose, or elephant. Ge 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” The seventeen elements that are in man are the same seventeen elements in dirt. Concerning medical information: Le 15:13 “'And when he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing, wash his clothes, and bathe his body in running water; then he shall be clean.” This recognizes the need for running water to carry away bacteria. Le 6:28 “'But the earthen vessel in which it (the meat) is boiled shall be broken. And if it is boiled in a bronze pot, it shall be both scoured and rinsed in water.” A clay pot cannot be disinfected as a metal pot can. De 14:9 “"These you may eat of all that are in the waters: you may eat all that have fins and scales. 10 "And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.” God declared all shellfish unclean. We now know that shellfish are not only high in cholesterol, but many are poisonous at certain times of the year. De 14:8 "Also the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses.” Again, we now know that pigs can give people trichanosis if not fully cooked. |

The Bible is authoritative. It claims to be the Word of God. The following phrases are commonly used in the Bible: “Says the LORD” “The Word of the LORD” “The LORD said” “The LORD has spoken” “The LORD says” “The voice of the LORD” “the LORD spoke” “Jesus said” “Jesus answered” Over 1700 times the Bible claims to be the Word of God, and there are more beside. The Bible claims to be Divinely Inspired, and to have been written at the instruction of God: Ex 17:14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial in the book” Ex 34:27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." Jer 30:2 "Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: 'Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. Jer 36:2 "Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day. Hab 2:2 Then the LORD answered me and said: "Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. Joh 14:26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Ac 1:16 "Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; 2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, Heb 8:5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, "See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." 2Pe 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. Re 1:11 saying, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last," and, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea." Re 1:19 "Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this. Re 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." |

Titus The substance of this letter is behavior. This is a demonstration by example of what James says so much about in his letter, that faith will have works. This first chapter teaches how our behavior shows our character, and in so doing, shows how we are most likely to behave in the future. Behavior and character can be thought of as identical twins - they always look like each other. In the second chapter, good behavior incites good behavior. This is the nuts and bolts of the church edifying each other. In chapter three, behavior divides between the church and the world, and they must be divided! Faith without works is dead! Chapter One can be divided as follows: Verses 1 through 5 form Paul's introduction, his 'credentials', if you will (although Titus knew Paul well), and Paul's purpose for writing. Verses 6-9 speak of the characteristics of an elder or bishop. Verses 10-16 describe the ungodly, and show a godly response to them. 1 Paul, a servant of God, This describes Paul's view of his relationship with God. and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, Robertson's NT Word Pictures: According to the faith of God's elect (kata pistin eklektôn theou). Here kata expresses the aim of Paul's apostleship and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began (before times eternal); Paul's apostleship is for the benefit of the faith of God's elect. His apostleship is to acknowledge the truth which comes from godliness. His apostleship is built upon the hope of eternal life. God, Who cannot lie (Nu 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie;) promised eternal life before the world began - to Whom??? This is literally "pro kronwn aiwnion" before times eternal, or of the ages. Many commentators and translations say this actually means "before dispensational times" i.e. "the giving of the Law." Both the Received Text and the Critical Text contain this wording. 3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; When the times were right according to God, He manifested His Word through preaching. By commandment, God committed His word to Paul, to be preached. Hebrews tells us tha in these last days, God has spoken to us by His Son. Now, preaching about the Son is ordained. 4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. For all the times Paul opens his letters with 'grace and peace', when he writes to Timothy and to Titus (his 'pastoral letters') he adds mercy. James 3:1 "Many teachers become not, my brethren, having known that greater judgment we shall receive," - perhaps he is thinking of this? And so I will add to all of you who teach God's Word - Mercy! 5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: Paul had 'appointed' Titus a task. He is now writing to Titus basically to remind him of his instructions, and no doubt reinforcing all that he had told him. Consider Paul's letters, filled with instructions in great detail, and imagine being on an ocean journey with Paul, as he was planning on leaving you on this island to troubleshoot the various congregations, and appoint elders. I have every expectation there would have been night and day instruction. The terms bishop and elder are used interchangably in the New Testament. Here, Paul is essentially saying, "choose elders if any be blameless, because a bishop must be blameless". Bishop, episkopon, is simply, overseer. An elder, presbuteros, is one who is older. Titus This letter is thought to have been written at about the same time as the Paul's first letter to Timothy, approx. AD 67. Titus means “Pleasing.” Following his conversion, Paul had spent 3 years in Arabia, then went to Jerusalem for 2 weeks, then went back to Tarsus for probibly about 5 years. Barnabas found Paul in Tarsus, and brought him to Antioch, to preach and minister in the church there, and it was apparently during this time that Titus came to the faith. We first see Titus as he travels to Jerusalem with Paul in about 44 AD, as Paul brings an offering to the church at Jerusalem (Gal 2). This was Paul's second recorded trip to Jerusalem. Titus was part of Paul's missionary team, and traveled extensively with Paul. We next see Titus eleven years later, in about 55 AD. Paul was in Macedonia, anxiously awaiting news from Corinth, and was uneasy until Titus came with his report (2 Cor. 2:13). Titus brought good news, Paul's correction had been well received (2 Cor. 7), and Paul sent Titus back with II Corinthians. Paul then met Titus in Corinth, and, after winter, they continued on to Jerusalem again together. Paul had probibily sent the first Corinthian letter with Titus, at a time he knew there were major problems in the church there, indicating that Paul had a lot of confidence in Titus. Paul wrote about Titus: 2 Cor 8:16 "But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you." 2 Cor 8:23 "Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ." 2 Cor 12:18 "I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?" Paul thought very well of Titus, and considered him to have the same heart and spirit for the church as Paul himself did. We know that Paul and Titus travelled further together, in vs. 5 Paul mentions leaving Titus in Crete. This would seem to be after Paul's house arrest in Rome. He had been released, and continued travelling, ministering to the church. It is possible that Paul had left Titus on Crete while Paul was on his way to Rome as a prisoner. That would be just like Paul, to be concerned with the care of the church even as he is on his way to appear before caeser, although this is not likely. Titus 3:12 shows Paul is free to come and go, and we know Paul’s first house arrest was for two years, a rather long time for Paul to not have written an intructional letter regarding Titus’ temporary appointment. Titus was to "set in order the things that were wanting", again, this shows that Paul considered Titus trustworthy, mature, and capable. This is a temporary appointment, as Titus is to set the church in order, and then rejoin Paul (3:12). We last hear of Titus in 2 Timothy 4:10, after he had rejoined Paul, then left again to go to Dalmatia. There is no further word on his fate. According to Halley's Bible Handbook and others, it is thought that he later returned to Crete as archbishop, and died at a nice old age. Intro to Titus Love in Christ, Mark |

299 | unclean is a sin? or not? | Lev 5:2 | mark d seyler | 174717 | ||
Hi Doc, I think you've mapped this out rather well! Regarding the "teleological suspension of the ethical", I expect that the "greater good" must be defined as being that which is deemed neccessary for the personal welfare of a living creature, since those are the Biblical examples I see, and only in regards to the Sabbath. I do not see any other examples given that have explicit Scriptural approval. I would not include Abraham or Rahab in this same list. But lest we re-open That thread, let's move on. The more I think about it, the more it seems that to be unclean would not be sin, at least in certain circumstances, because there are at least some ways a person can become unclean that are completely outside of their control, such as a woman in her time of the month, or one whose spouse dies in their sleep. But that's just as it seems to me at this moment, and I am interested in following this to know truly what the Bible says on this. Regarding Jairus's daughter, yes, that's exactly what I am suggesting. It has never occurred to me to think that before. Looking at your 4 points: 1. Jesus used sleep in referrence to Lazarus, who He then said was dead, so I think it is safe to say the He would use "sleep" as figurative of "dead". But then, He did say also, "she is not dead". Are there other places in Scripture, especially among the sayings of Jesus, where we are taught or shown that death should not be called death? I can't think of any, but can you? 2. I have always agreed with the church. I have never heard, to my recollection, anyone suggest that this girl was not actually dead. But then, the Scriptural Text versus anything else is no contest. But I am not making any assertions, I am just asking the question. I still think she was dead. 3. This event could show Jesus' power over disease or the grave equally. The gospel writers may have simply presented the story the way it played out. But each of the gospel writers omit an actual statement of fact that she was dead. (see #4) 4. Only twice in my life have I seen those who have died, and death was immediately recognizable. I have every expectation that it would be all the more so to these who, as you have pointed out, had a much greater experience with it. However, we know that there are those rare times that even those in the medical profession have been wrong, and so we know it is possible to be fooled by certain circumstances. Perhaps more easily if one is expecting death to come at any moment. Nonetheless, that there were so many who considered her dead stands to me as the strongest witness of her actual death. But I do find it curious that while in the other times Jesus raised the dead, the Holy Spirit, through the gospel writer, confirmed their death, but not in this instance, the one where Jesus said "she is not dead". And so that stands, for me, as the strongest witness that she was not dead. I really don't know how to advance this any further. I fear that I have not added substantially to what I have said before, except the number of words - As a friend once said: "You write 40 posts, and what do you get - Another day older writin' stuff on the net!" Love in Christ, Mark |
