321 | Can we loose our salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | justme | 67203
Cyclist:-) Please let only the Lord be praised, for His working through the Holy Spirt which gives us the words to say in times of need. There is nothing in me that is excellent, except the Lord Jesus Christ to whom I am unworthy to take any praise that is His due. My knee is so well, the doctor dismissed me last Friday. I went to a special program three times a week and got those lazy nerves and mussels working again. This was a real blessing from the Lord. I am so thankful and blessed! Thank you for informing me about the removal. I found it to be in such extreme poor taste and judgement, I felt as it were an attack on being a follower of Christ. I have never responded in such a firm way, ever before. I felt so deeply about it, I had to make my distain very clear. So I thank you for your amen. May your day be blessed. justme |

Searcher56: I read a note some time ago. The note read; "Lord help my words to be sweet and tender; for tommrow I may have to eat them," I wanted FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE TO TELL ME about the TNIV. I am from the "SHOW ME" state, Missouri. I am stubborn like a "Missouri mule". I do not rely on second or third hand information! I may just have to buy one to actually know for sure. Your remark, about boys and girls and hoping I was aware of the difference. Belittling me, does not become you. You are above this. I consider you to be mature Christian. If I have shown some area that needs improvement or more wisdom, I would be pleased to be made aware of such. I am continuing to mature in my Christian growth, but have a long way to go. I hope to hear again from you, after you have had time pray about this. justme |

Searcher56: Have you personally read the parts that would indicate the TNIV is this flawed? It is not if I was belittled. The point is that you should recognize that yourself, without me haveing to point it out to you. Do you see the difference? I have talked to Zondervan and they dispute the things some publisity has said about the TNIV. To be honest if it is like the NRSV I would be very upset. As for me giving up on my question I already did. I would also say that is my choice and not yours to make. Your attitude is abrupt, and that concerns me. I did not think you were so sharp. Peace. justme. |

BdK: Blessings upon you dear friend! I am so glad that I have had some one who has actually had one to read first hand! Di you like to NIV? I for the life of me can not understand why so many "new translations are flooding the market. Nor can I understand why Zondervan would publish such a weak revision. Zondervan told me it has seen slow sales. I think they will see why soon. Here in the Mid-West, or as I think is just as right, the Mid-East the KJV reighns. Most Christian book stores have a wide range of KJV and a fair amount of NIV but NASB is lucky to have ten percent of the shelf space. I am sad at your news, but thank you for you evaluation. Blessings and Peace to you:-) justme |

Morant61: Thank you for yoy most welcome suggestion. I shall do exactlly what you suggested. After reading Brad K's note I am deeply sadned. I too use the NIV and the updated NASB sid by side. I feel that way I have a fuller scope of meaning of the Scripture. Thank you for the suggestion. justme |

Timothy Paul:-) I am glad I have found someone else who believes what I have said for the last 30 years. "The best Bible is the one you will read." (With the exception of the New World Translation!) Just for some facts aboyt Christians reading the Bible. Less then 10 percent of all Christiams read the Bible once a day. Less than 20 percent read it once a month! Most dust it off on the coffee table, when the pastor comes to visit. I read this a long time ago in an old Bible, "This Book will keep me from sin; or sin will keep me from this book" I have rermembered this for more than 45 years. I think some of these old word slogans stick with us. Maybe we should print them more often. "Only one life will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last!" justme |

Cyclist: I have not read or seen any any stats on prayer, I cant help but wonder on that one. I have used the Daily Bread from it's begining! I found it to be the best for me. If you read the suggested readings below the daily verse you go through the Bible in a year. I have not been as consistant with that part. I have to make special effort to have prayer and Bible reading every day. I feel so empty until I take time alone to pray and read. Nice to hear from you. justme |

BdK: This AM I called Zondervan. I told them of the poor reviews the TNIV was getting, and that I was questioning why they publisher it? They took my phone number and said someone in the review part of Zondervan would call me to further talk. They did call back, and I was asked to review the TNIV and give a honest opinion, good or bad. What are the TNIV weakness and strong points that I observe. I am totally blown away by their reaction. So thank you for the suggestion. Peace and Mercy to us all. justme |

BdK: With so many different study Bibles, and versions, not to mention the kind of covers to choose from, shelf space is limited. Here, finding genuine leather is hard to locate. The Bible publishers are choking thenselves, and it is hard to find knowledgeable sales persons who know the different features. I have all I need and I am glad. justme |

Hank: I could have made the list longer of versions that I personally think have serious flaws. For example NRSV, RSV, NEB, and several study Bibles made by some Bible Teachers that use a good Bible version. I was forced at Midwester Baptist Theological Seminary to use the RSV. I still look at my notes, but rarely, if ever read that Bible. I noticed you did not mention the NIV in your lists of responsible translations, was that for me to think it is not a responsible translation? I no of no other translation that has such a srtong commitment to the authority and infallibility of the Bible as the NIV. I ask this with respect, not meaning to stirr the pot. I thought I read sometime ago that you liked the New Living Bible. I looked at it but it simply is not what I was interested in. You mentioned reading ability, and the KJV,and the NKJV are at atleast an 11th grade reading level. What should we do for those who read at a 6th grade level, from which I have read is the avrage American non-college educated, persons reading level? I doubt I could encourage anyone to use the Good News Bible. I think you are very fortunate to have the command of the English language that you have. Your words flow like glass. There are few I know that have the ability you have been blessed with. Thank you for your imput. justme |

Hank: I have ment some so called "esteemed scholars". I admit the Love of Christ was clearly lacking. But they had achived esteemed degrees. Education does not make a spiritual man or woman. However, Preparation H does not require any esteem, just a need for it's use. justme |

Hank: Well by gully if the NIV was good enough for Paul, then that's ok for me! Ha, Ha. Bet you never heard it that way before. Remember Missouri is the Shoe Me State. I do live in Missouri, and have adapted quite well. I noticed that thr response was plenty about this. The good point is so many have selected a version of God's Word that they read and speaks to their heart. How wonderful we have it to be able to chose from so many translations! I am reminded of how many do not have a single word of the Bible in their language. Blessings. justme |

Hank:-) I received my TNIV today. :-( I have read with my NASB and the NIV and Greek Pararalle New Testament. I went to Luke, 1 Corinthians, and then Romans. There are a few places I felt the gender nutral might aid in some way. Them there were places I saw as being inconsistant, with their own worded purpose. Then there were that I will call plane stupid errors, in this "persons" judgement. "People" was used when refering to circumsission! That is more than clear it should have refered to the male gender! Also when using the word "homosexual" the TNIV adds "practicing" before it. There seemed to be an agenda that compremises God's Word. I will continue my jorney in reading a few more selected sections, and then send in my review. Several times I said to my wife, "I will bet Hank blew a gasket!" I think this is so simular to the NRSV it makes no financial wisdom to have another corrucpted text in print. I hope enough "persons" let Zondervan know how this is such a kick in their teeth, so maybe they will let it die. Hope you are doing ok with the heart and pacemaker and defib. Remembering you in prayer...... justme |

Hank: I contacted Dr. Henery Moler, who worked on theNASN New Testament. I read him several problem areas. He was in agreement with me the text does not translate into what is printed. If that were thacare on not practicing homosexual, then where does the Blood of Christ and forgiveness come in? How anout a non practicing thief or whatever sin you can nane? I think the agenda is to accept homosexuality, and other agendas tied to this. I am reviewing the text and will give then a very accurate review, and hope the Lord will use it for His Glory. Oh by the way I do think every time jesus is refered to Hom or He it should show upper case letters. Thanks for the note. justme |

339 | To wine, or not to wine? | Bible general Archive 1 | justme | 69422
EdB; Greetings this AM. :-) The wine in scripture was deluted about 4 to 6 times. The wine was like a concentrated orange juice, as we have today in the frozen food section of the store. They added water to it and by all that I have been told if water was added as it was suppose to be, the "buz" would have take more than the bladder could hold! That by no means some did not used far less water, and then the color was much deeper than it was to be. I personally have had the story of Jesus making wine, put up as a defence for more heavy drinkers that were addicted to daily use of "spirits". This passage is mis used beyond any one I know of. Why is this small section of Jesus life' known by so many? Yet so few know any other of Jesus' life experiences? For me After one year in a Naval Hospital, I came out so dependant on strong pain killers that is was a very serious dependancy for many years. This is just as common in the church today as heavy drinking is in the world. The use of alcohol, is one of the trap biggest issues. If one says it is ok to have a glass of wine or a beer, there will be someone who will justify their habit because so and so says its's ok. If I say no one should drink alcohol, some person will ask if I ever used Night Quill. I think that if if there is any doubt don't. Scripture says if we know something is wrong and we do it, that is a sin. I disapprove of a list of "We don'ts in a church". Some have a required that to be a church member that you muct totally abstain from any alcohol, including selling it. Yet many just overlooked this and lied about it. When I was much, much, much, much younger, rock and roll, dancing , going to the movies, smoking, drinking, cussing, and mixed swiming, television, and fornicating (meaning kissing alone in a car) were often worked in to the Pastors sernons! I grew up pretty warped, I feared the Lord, respected young ladies (they were considered ladies at 13 and above), addressed older men and women by Mr., Miss., or Mrs., dated in groups, and never said a sware word in public. Then the sware words were more of a by your self thing. Most of us slipped once and a while. Boy the fifties seen so long ago! Stores were closed on Sundays too! Today, I still have these values. At times my Grandchildren think I am from the prehistoric ages. Well I chased a rabbit, I am like that you know. I was glad to see both notes on this. Have a good day! justme |

Hank: In reading this note, and finding out about your son, was painful for me to read. I do not know what that would be like to lose a son. I have deep empathy for you and your wife. To be very honest, I hurt inside when I read about your sons death. My sincere sympathy is extended, evern though it was some time ago. Time does heal some wounds, byt we never forget. I am so sorry you both experienced such a tragic loss. I have NEVER heard any praise for anyone who was under the infulence of alochol! I know of nothing done worth while while drunk. This self inflicted drug has destroyed more than man could ever out build. The childhood and life of my wife suffered and was shamed by her dad all his life. That pain ended October 1997 when he finally died. What she endured, and how she had to learn to defend herself as a child, made it hard for her to trust and feel secure when we first got married. The pain will always be remembered! That is not the legecy I will leave for my family! I Know whom I have believed, and am persuaded He will keep me untill the day, He ends my days. My protection comes from walking and abiding with the Lord, not on my own. justme Thank you for sharing some of the burdens you endured, and live with from the past. God bless you and you wife. justme |
