Harper, Sorry I have been slow getting to my emails and I spent time with the wife lastnight so didn't get a chance to respond. I trust that the response from CDBJ is sufficient to answer you question. God bless, Jeff |

282 | how is .... | Mark 1:1 | jlhetrick | 188824
Your very right. I've always understood christ to be the second person of the Trinity and believe that is what Scripture teaches. Thank you for correcting me. I believe I got ahead of myself as I was typing and thinking of a response to the question of regarding the baptism of the Holy Spirit (who is the third person). A very important correction brother; thank you sincerely, Jeff |

283 | With out coporate Prayer what will ? | Heb 10:25 | jlhetrick | 188820
Amen Azure! At age 42 many might consider me a youngster in the flock so my observations are limited in that respect. With that said, it does seem that there has been and continues to be some degree of "scattering". It should come as no surprise perhapse that our generation is no different than that of Jerimiah's. It should be pointed out though that in our time much has transpired regarding God's revelation to men. Still we have the scattering as an obvious reality. Often times, in my opinion (experience) it is a direct result of the shepherds. Eph 4:11-15 NASB95And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, It's absolutely clear to me that the "unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ" can not be achieved save for the glory and power of God Himself. God bless, Jeff |

285 | reconcile Mark 6:8 and Luke 9:3 | Mark 6:8 | jlhetrick | 188664
INRI, Well said. And thanks for clarifying. I hope you can appreciate how your earlier presentation left plenty to question. On the Forum we try to be specific enough and give enough detail that all readers will have some understanding of our position and point. I truly appreciate your response back. As for translations, I agree with your statement as I understand it. Personally, I have a big enough chore finding time to study the Bible in my own language and have only developed a true interest in the original languages within the past couple of years. I have spent some time evaluating the various translations (based on the true evaluations of trusted scholars) and as a result have concluded that not all translations are created equal. I never read the Amplified (no offense Lockman) and my first choice for accuracy is always the NASB (thanks Lockman). I also spend significant time in the ESV, NKJV and the KJV. Again, thanks for your response. God bless, Jeff |

287 | reconcile Mark 6:8 and Luke 9:3 | Mark 6:8 | jlhetrick | 188634
Hello INRI, Welcome to the Forum! Will you please be more specific as to your point in quoting Proverbs 26:4-5. How does your quote fit into the discussion and what do you mean by "I always liked this one because they are side by side." Because I am on my lunch break at work I will offer a brief thought. I will check to see if you have responded when I get home this evening. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but in the context of the thread you seem as eager to assume contradiction in Scripture as another here does. Furthermore, if that was your point, the fact that you "like this one" is very troubling to me. With that said, I can appreciate how an unskilled reader, without the benefit of context and a base understanding of God's word might see verses 4 and 5 here as being contradictory. Perhapse if you read the same verses in a different translation you might get the point of them. Prov 26:4-5 (NASB) Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Or you will also be like him. 5 Answer a fool as his folly deserves, That he not be wise in his own eyes. If you still need help in understanding these great words of wisdom, please respond and I will coach you along on it. God bless, Jeff |

Lookin4, Friend, I have tried, with great effort, to remain cordial and be helpful but I'm afraid I'm at a point where I feel a stronger priority to put a stop to you nonsense. What you are attempting is referred to as "circular reasoning" and I must write honestly and say, you’re not even slightly good at it. You’re not dealing with second graders on the forum. You can continue to adjust and readjust your question (statement, position, opinion- or whatever we're to call it at this point) until eventually you will have a position that you can sufficiently qualify with Scripture. I guess the problem with my assumption here though is that you haven’t attempted to apply your question to Scripture or Scripture to your question. Furthermore, when someone quotes Scripture that specifically address your question and you respond with referring to it as “merely citing”; your, well, I’m not sure where you are. It’s not bible study. So far off the mark regarding an appropriate approach to bible study that I'm not even sure where to start in an attempt to get you situated. Here is the problem. You cannot begin with an assumption, position, opinion, etc. and then approach Scripture in an attempt to prove your theory. It's circular. It doesn't work. Scripture is not established by your doctrine (or mine) but rather, our doctrine needs to be established by Scripture. You have missed this so completely that the best advice I might offer is that you drop this issue completely (for the time being) and move on to something more productive. God bless, Jeff |

289 | Help choosing Linear Bible | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 188455
Right, and I actually don't use it for original language stuff so I can't help there; soory. There is a download of the NASB package that includes (if I remember right- my computer at work doesn't have it) NASB update edition, NASB with Strongs numbers, NASB exhaustive concordance and I believe a thing or two more. You do have to pay for the package though but it is only twenty dollars (a small price in my opinion). I purchased it a couple of years ago and have been very pleased- no buyer's remorse. Good luck in your search. Jeff |

291 | Is It Human to Sin? | Gen 1:27 | jlhetrick | 188422
Lookn4, Any assumption is on your part my friend. I offered a sound biblical response to your question which included scriptural reference. My "view" didn't "assume" anything; it was simply a statement of belief in what God's word says. The parameters were placed by you afterward and I might add a far cry from where you began. It's interesting that you could end at such a place in no more than three lines. The question was "do Christians sin all the time, everyday". You greatly reduced your premise to "the possibility for a Christian to spend (at least) one day without sinning either in word, thought, attitude, or deed". Then you imply that the two are the same thing. They are not. So your first challenge is to decide which question you want to ask. Once decided, you face the awesome responsibility of accepting what God's word has to say on the matter. Some helpful advise. It is neither edifying or productive to ask a question, receive sound biblical guidance on that question, and then try to refute that biblical guidance by rewording your question in a reduced format. Hope this is helpful to you, Jeff |

Hello lookn…, Thank you for making your intentions more clear. The way you describe asking questions on the forum can be appreciated as long as those questions aren’t “loaded”. My statements about the pot stirring were specific to the clear, public record of your posts. It appears that a lot of members have had questions about your intentions. No offense was or is intended. Consider this though. I have always heard it said (something like this) that if a person has a problem with someone else, and then with a different someone and then with a different someone, it should become obvious at some point that it’s not everyone else that has the problem. So if the pot seems to always, or regularly stir around your posts, you might consider changing it up a bit. In answer to your question the answer is no. I have never heard a preacher say that we sin because we’re only human. And yes it is my position that true Christians do not “sin all the time everyday”. Christians do sin (I certainly do) but not “all the time”. All the time is as good as saying that it is my lifestyle. It is not my lifestyle to sin. Scripture says that it is not the lifestyle of any Christian to “sin all the time, every day”. Heb 10:26 ESV 26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, Heb 10:19-23 ESV 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. God bless, Jeff |

Hello Sister, How are things in your part of the world? I just want to offer my opinion about something you said. I have not been participating on the forum for too long, but I was here when you arrived on scene. There are few, if any, here that are more capable of offering a "loving" and "patient" response than you are. Keep up the excellent work sister. Personally, I have learned and continue to learn a great deal about humility and how a true Christian should presnet him/herself from you. I'm grateful that you are a part of this Forum. God bless, Jeff |

299 | standards for a preacher/biship | 1 Tim 3:2 | jlhetrick | 187729
Hello Victrix, My response here is generally to everyone involved; I tagged it to your post in order to say hello and welcome to the Forum. Welcome! My two cents worth is this. We all have to be careful in our attempts to both interpret and apply the passages in 1 Tim chapter 3. Too often we are quick to point our own crooked finger at the sin of another man, especially when we feel comfortable that his sin is greater than anything we are doing or have done. Here is my point. If having been divorced DISQUALIFIES one from the role of pastor (and I don’t find anywhere in Scripture where that is taught), deacon, elder, etc., then so does not being respected by some; being or having ever been inhospitable; having ever been drunk, having ever expressed violence; having ever quarreled with another, etc. If you find a pastor out there (anywhere at all) who can measure up to this, you have to ask a few more questions. Is he a good teacher? I have witnessed one or two, or three that were not (are they disqualified). Is he above reproach? HUUM. Let’s just cut to the chase- is he BLAMELESS. Well, he’s got to be disqualified. What about the new convert? How to we INTERPRET that? When Paul wrote that, practically everyone in the newly established churches was a new convert (at least in terms of how we might view it 2000 years later). We can’t take one or two of the BIG ones and hold them up and give a pass on the others. They were all given in the same breath so to speak. What we can be sure of is that the love of Christ supersedes all; the mercy of God is incomprehensible and the work of His grace covers a multitude of sins. God bless, Jeff |

300 | What qualifies a cultist? | Is 43:7 | jlhetrick | 187661
Hello P25, I agree, absolutely no splitting hairs- it serves no purpose or benefit. I believe the central point here is truth; something I believe we are both equally concerned with. My response to you had nothing at all to do with Watchman Nee. Know nothing at all about the person beyond the very minimal information contained in this thread. Not the point. While the definition of a cult can range from a sentence or two to a fairly lengthy discussion, I believe that the modern understanding/use of the term by Christians is basic enough. Would you agree with the basic premise of the definition quoted by Doc in post 187614? I believe it was fair of you to challenge Doc on his position. I also believe it was fair and appropriate for me to basically challenge your statement. The trinity IS a cardinal doctrine of Christianity; furthermore, it is one of the most attacked doctrines of those who wish to deny that Christ is God. In all honestly sir, I firmly believe that anyone who intentionally teaches contrary to the truth of the Trinity found in Scripture is as worthy of the "label" cultist as anyone. Some, many (myself included) have a limited understanding of the Trinity; and an even more limited ability to articulate it. But a "misrepresentation of the trinity" (your words regarding Nee) is unacceptable. My argument is that, no, we do not need "far more than a misrepresentation of the trinity", as you put it, to equal cultish teaching. So, for the record, my response had nothing to do with Watchman Nee, Witness Lee, or even Sarah Lee :) It was specifically to you regarding your apparent lessening of the importance of the trinity. And to put even more on the record, I am not saying that you do not hold the importance of the trinity as highly as I or any other Christian does. Only that your post seemed to indicate otherwise. God bless, Jeff |
