261 | is salvation is eternal? | James 1:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191651
Greetings iusmar! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I would encourage you to read the following scriptures for starters 1 Corinthians 2:14, Romans 8:5-8 and Ephesians 2:1-10. As you have presented it, you seem to be pointing to works and to mankind as the source of saving themselves. This is not what the scriptures teach! Steve |

262 | where do animals go when they expire? | Eccl 3:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191595
rabban, I have read it. Several times! Note I said " The way you have presented this appears..." To me, it appears this way. Note again your statement/question "Who are you going to make the arbiter of truth? A failing church which has distorted God's truth through the centuries? And which part of the church? Are we to look to Apollos? or Paul? or Peter? (1 Corinthians 1.12)." You ask a question "Who are you going to make the arbiter of truth?" What follows as I read it is a suggested answer to your own question. "A failing church which has distorted God's truth through the centuries?" And then you continue on with your suggested answer "And which part of the church? Are we to look to Apollos? or Paul? or Peter? (1 Corinthians 1.12). That's how I see it brother! But far be it from me to put words in your mouth. If this was not your intent and I misunderstand you, I can accept that. But you will need to clarify it because like I said, it appears to me to say something you are saying it doesn't. Steve |

263 | where do animals go when they expire? | Eccl 3:21 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191582
Greetings rabban! You said "Who are you going to make the arbiter of truth? A failing church which has distorted God's truth through the centuries? And which part of the church? Are we to look to Apollos? or Paul? or Peter? (1 Corinthians 1.12). Whose interpretation are we to follow? It was because we must look to the Holy Spirit to illuminate our own minds that 1 Corinthians 2 was written." Did Apollos, Paul and Peter have different interpretation / teachings that contradicted each other? Was it not the lack of understanding and pride of those at Corinth that had caused the division? They needed someone to teach them God's truth!!! Paul did that and pointed them to Christ. The way you have presented this appears that the three had different teachings and the Corinthians were confused because they were taught different things. It is as if you have tied these men in as causes of the failing church as you call it. As if they had “distorted” God’s truth! Something that must be considered is the gifts that God gives to the members of His Church. What need of a gift to teach for example is there if all are capable of understanding on their own? Certainly if God sees fit to gift His Church with teachers then it does not contradict what you point out in your first paragraph of this post (i.e. the illumination of the Holy Spirit). Consider Apollos! Did he need a teacher? Acts 18:25-26 Steve |

264 | silent prayer | Matt 6:5 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191533
Greetings mely! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! If the word of God does not speak against praying silently, why would we put such limitations on a mighty God who not only is able to, but does know our thoughts and our heart ? (Psalm 139:23; Isaiah 66:18, 1 Chronicles 28:9, Psalm 44:21, 1 Samuel 16:7, Jeremiah 17:10) etc... Have you ever had a prayer answered? Have you ever had a silent prayer answered? God bless, Steve |

267 | why suffer in pain | 2 Cor 4:17 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191461
Greetings Sister! Great stuff! It is this heart that we should have for all those we see each day! Just like we once formally walked in sin, desperate for a Saviour and not even knowing it, so too are many we see in our daily life. We should see each one of them as they are, lost and hopeless without the Lord Jesus! Knowing what we know because of the gift we have been given, let us not rest while so many are in desperate need of a Saviour, our Lord and our God Jesus Christ! Steve |

268 | forgiveness | Matt 18:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191371
Greetings Parable! In my opinion the definition falls short! It would seem to me it better defines the fruits of forgiveness, not what it means to forgive. To add to the other scriptures I have pointed you to, take a look at Luke 15:11-32, pay close attention to verses 20-24. There my brother is a picture of forgiveness! Steve |

269 | forgiveness | Matt 18:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 191345
Greetings Brother! I agree with Hank. I struggle with much of what you have posted here on forgiveness. Read The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18:21-35. Does this leave you with the same understanding as you have posted? Or perhaps 2 Corinthians 2:5-11...? Forgiveness must come from the heart! Surely the Lord God searches the heart and knows it well and from Him we can hide nothing! It seems to me that your presentation of forgiveness is rooted in selfishness. It must be rooted in love! Ephesians 4:31-32 (NASB) 4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 5:1-2 (NASB) 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. You stated "this is hard to put in words" and I agree, some times it is very hard to find the right words. Been there many times myself :-) But united in His spirit seeking to understand His word we can over come that! Perhaps it is just the way you presented it that is confusing but it appears to me that your understanding of forgiveness is missing some key points. God's grace, His compassion, His mercy and love! Maybe I am misunderstanding you so if you would, try providing scripture and explaining your understanding based on the scripture. God bless, Steve |

270 | Bad things, Good People. Prov 4:10 | Prov 4:10 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190909
Greetings Val! The book of Job would be a good place to start regarding your question to Angelinwaiting! If you struggle with understanding what Angelinwaiting is saying, I would urge you to consider the sovereignty of God and the depravity of man. What does God's word teach us about both? Steve |

271 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190698
Ah yes, the body of Christ! Scripture makes it obvious the importance of each member! And the Spirit of God which unites! As it should be Brother! Praise God for His mercy and kindness! Just a thought based on what you say took place Sunday and the fact there are still those with hurt feelings and anger. I can think of two very good reminders to us all that can be considered to put such feelings in context of the ways of God. The words of Jesus our Lord God in Luke 23:34 (NASB) “"Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing…" And The words of Stephen in Acts 7:60 (NASB) “…Lord, do not hold this sin against them!…” Amazing how those who were wronged were able to overcome the anger and hurt and still plead with God to forgive those who wronged them. Truly His ways are higher then ours! As you well know dear brother, we are nothing without Him and in my humbled opinion absolutely desperate for Him to intercede in our lives constantly! Praise God He will never forsake us! Your Brother in Christ, Steve Romans 2:4 (NASB) Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? |

273 | STUMP THE PASTOR | Prov 5:4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190626
Most excellent suggestion justme!!! Hopefully it will not stump the pastor! But we both know that this question has stumped even so called pastors. And it stumps oh so many men and woman around the world. Steve |

274 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190591
Yes, anything that will point them to Christ! He must be lifted up to them!!! Take note of how many times Paul mentions Jesus Christ in the first 10 or so verses of 1 Corinthians 1. It is obvious the One Paul is seeking to focus them (and us) on. Perhaps a good cross reference to tie in to that passage would be Matt. 5:21-24 I feel for you brother! I know this must be hard for you and others in the church. The church that my Grandparents, Mother, and several of my brothers attended recently fired the pastor. Many of the members including my family members had already left the church and/or passed on to be with the Lord! The church was divided and had been getting worse for several years. I don't know all the issues but I do know many who were members of the church and I know the pastor personally and spent time in the church and with him when I visited my home town. It still hurts me deeply when I think of what has taken place there. But it is clear to me that God must be at the center of our lives and our local church! I say this to encourage you! Let this Sunday not be a sad day, but let it be the first day of a new direction. Stand before the church and show to them that without compromise, He is your God and He is the head of the church and there is no room for anything in the church that is not honoring to Him! Invite them to stand with you united in His Spirit (Ephesians 4:1-16) and for those who cannot put Him first, well show them the door! God bless, Steve |

275 | Thanks for the answer | Acts 1:9 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190570
And it can be said you are just the last to prove the scriptures are true! 1 Corinthians 2:14 (NASB) 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Romans 8:6-8 (NASB) 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Here are the facts since you are into “FACTS”! 1 Corinthians 15:3-19 (NASB) 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. If you think so highly of mankind do us a favor and simply create from nothing a seed, plant it and grow for yourself food to sustain you. By the way, the seed must be created by you not taken from that which has already been created. Also, you must create your own water and dirt to plant and feed the seed. You must give it life that it may grow and produce its fruits. Let us know how it turns out! Steve |

276 | How Trinity of God is working? | Gal 4:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190363
Greetings RC! Amen! And absolutely the Lord God knows what He is doing! It is a praise to God for sure. Obviously He has more for you to do! You got to love that :-) In regards to the church you spoke of, again I say Amen! Again it is a praise to God! Although some times it is so hard for us to see His hand at work, He works none the less doing that which He pleases and drawing His people to Him. Ah the kindness of the Lord (Romans 2:4). Where would any of us be if not for His love and mercy and patients with us? God bless, Steve |

277 | How Trinity of God is working? | Gal 4:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190354
Greetings RC! Welcome Back! Although I wasn't here back when you were active :-) I took note of the fact you pointed out you use to be rcscroll. I took a look at some of your old post and your old profile. I noticed it was back in March of 2003 you made your last post under that name. Seeing it's now June 2007, can we assume God's will has changed for your "TERMINAL SICKNESS" you spoke of in your old profile information? Steve |

278 | Lack of Indifference | Mark 16:18 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190306
Good stuff Brother Tim! Your post reminded me of a couple of things said by Albert Mohler Jr. and Henlee Barnette in an article on this subject I had read. "In both the Old and New Testaments, the demands of justice require that those who do evil be punished for those acts of evil," he said. "War is one of the means by which peace is re-established." - Albert Mohler Jr. Barnette agreed, saying that the Greek word for "love" -- agape -- demands justice. "You can't have agape [love] without justice," he said. "Otherwise it is purely sentimentality. I go along with Augustine on this. You may hit me on the right cheek, [and] I'll turn the left. But you hit one of my family [members], and you're going to get justice." - Henlee Barnette Steve |
