481 | Do we need to ask for "gifts" ? | 1 Cor 12:31 | gracefull | 79837
Hi Emmaus, "If there are prophecies they will be brought to nothing; if tongues they will cease; if knowledge it will be brought to nothing. For we know partially and we prophecy partially, but when perfection comes the partial will pass away.. Verse 12 " For now we see in a mirror. dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I wil know fully, even as I have been known. And now faith, hope and love. Pursue love AND (my emphasis)strive for the spiritual gifts.... Absolutely nowhere in these chapters does Paul even imply that this was a temporal command. If we make this assumption here, we can make it anywhere in scripture. My challenge to anyone reading this post is to ask yourself why you so readily accept the teaching of man regarding these scriptures and do not open your heart to the truth being stated? Man developed the commentaries and I submit that man chose to deny the power of God still working in the earth for greed and/or fear! The gifts were not to be FEARED because they are the demonstration of God's Holy Spirit to a lost and dying world that God LOVES them and that Jesus died to set them free from the powers of darkness...Religion says 'Jesus died to free you from the condemnation of sin, but you must endure the enemy until you get to heaven." Scripture says that Jesus defeated all the powers of darkness and translated us into HIS kingdom. Is Satan still in authority over the KINGDOM OF GOD? NO, Jesus is the Lord over His kingdom in which we are IN! Colossians 1 "He has rescued us from the power (authority, jurisdiction, power, right, delegated influence, Strong's 1849 ) of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of His Beloved Son.. Satan's authority in the life of the born again blood washed believer is GONE..So why does he still defeat so many of us? WE LET HIM by believing the lies taught by men! When that which is perfect has come is taught by ceasanist as meaning the compiling of the scriptures. But in context, and as emphasised by Paul, this can't be so. PERFECT has not come, and WE STILL SEE IN A MIRROR DIMLY... When Jesus returns, we will know all things and have perfect understanding. The gifts are for the building up of the body, and they are the work of the Holy Spirit through the working of the Holy Spirit in a yielded vessel. Yes, faith, hope and love are virtues and the Holy Spirit by the Word of God develops these in the believer, the charismata (gifts) are given for service to the body. The two are not in contrast to each other and they are not in competition....they are all part of God's covenant with His peole and should be sought, received with great joy to bring glory to God through Jesus Christ and demonstrate to a lost and dying world the provision of our awesome loving God. Jesus "led captivity captive and gave gifts to men.." Jesus took the AUTHORITY of Satan and and has given positions of authority to men and provided them with His NAME and His Spirit to go forth and preach that captivity has been broken and that they are redeemed from the law of sin and death! It always saddens me to hear the teachings of men that have been passed down and accepted that deny theworking of the Holy Spirit. The grief it causes is the same as if someone had medecine in their hands and someone was dying and the medecine would save them, but this person decided, no, the medecine will not work and refused to administer it. God has porvided the gifts of the Holy Spirit through the awesome sacrifice of Jesus and men reject it. All one has to do to know the truth is to go to God in prayer and sincerely desire to know the truth, and be willing to pay any price(religious afiliation, pride, family rejection) and God would fill them and gift them for service. Please do not mistake my PASSION for judgement or condemnation, quite the opposite, my passion if for truth to set the captive free..restore sight to the blind... God bless |

Hi Emmaus, "I think it tells us God give differing gifts to people, but we should strive, desire and pray for the greater gifts, the theological virtues, of faith, hope and charity, and the greatest of these is charity or love." Your statement that the greater gifts, the theological virtues, of faith, hope and charity, is not stated in either 1 Corinthians 12:31 1 Corinthians 13 (which is the description of Goly love) and is not verified by 1 Corinthians 14:1-2 Pursue love AND strive for the spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians chapters 11-14 is dealing with spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 Paul' teaching in Corinthians 13 on love is not that love should replace these gifts, but is necessary for their use. The 'greater gift' Paul states is prophesy. God bless. |

483 | How do you know you have the Holy Ghost? | Acts 19:2 | gracefull | 79801
Hi God's lady. I would like to post this scripture in the NRSV. While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the interior regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples. He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?" They replied,"No, we have not heard that there is a Holy Spirit." Then he said,"Into what then were you baptized?" They answered." Into John's baptism." Paul said," John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the peple to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, is in Jesus. On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. These scriptures clearly state three things.. 1. They received Jesus through faith first. 2. They demonstrated this through baptism. 3. Then received the Holy Spirit baptism showing evidence through speaking in tongues. God bless |

Hi inhisname... Again, clarify works.. Abraham BY FAITH in what God told him, leave this country because I have another for you and want to make you the father of that nation... Abraham Left because he had faith in what God said. Abraham's through faith LEFT the land of his father to go to the new land promised. God produced the manifestation of the promise..Issac which led ultimately to Jesus... Faith acts in obedience and God produces the result. Some here are calling Abraham's 'Leaving' a work and some are calling God's manifestation a work. By faith in God's word, Noah built the ark. First Noah believed, then he obeyed, then God produced the promise. When we hear God's Word and it (the Word) is mixed with faith...obedience that follows enables God to fulfill the promise. Had Noah said 'Yes God, I believe you are going to destroy the earth and I am told to build this ark so me and my family will be saved, but I believe you will save us even if I do not build this ark...they would have died. God's way in the earth is through planting the seeds of His Word, and we receive this Word and act accordingly by faith, He will produce the promised results. But not until faith acts according to the Word. Again faith without works is dead. Obedience by faith is the avenue God chose to bless His people. We believe, we act, God produces the result promised. God bless |

inhisname, I suggest you take a minute and clarify your definition of works. Mark 16 tells us to GO into all the world and preach the gospel...and these signs shall follow them that believe... What is the believer's responsibility and what is God's promise? LAY hands on the sick and they shall recover...do you view laying hands on the sick as a work or act of obedience? Purhaps you could help my brothers here to understand you position by defining WORKS. Then you may have a better foundation for this discussion. God bless |

I would like to speak to the statement that Acts 2 where they spoke of the things of God but had not prepared beforehand. The scriptures to take no thought what you will say...the Holy spirit will give you the words... in context is stating that we should not necessarily have prepared statements but should rely on the Holy Spirit to give us discernment in situations in order to know what needs to be said. Such an example is Jesus and the rich young ruler. Jesus did not give him the same response He gave Nicodemus because He discerned the difference in these two mens hearts. But when you compare Matthew 10 to John 14:25-26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. So inActs 2 the Spirit filled Apostles were speaking the words Jesus had taught them through the discerning guidance of the Holy Spirit. God bless |

Mpierce.. In study last night I was in somwhat of a quandry as to what scriptures I should reference as my statement coverd a broad spectrum of the new covenant. I decided to begin here... CJB translation Romans 3:19-27 Moreover, we know that whatever the Torah says, it says to those living within the framework of the Torah, in order that every mouth may be stopped and the whole world be shown to deserve God's judgement. For in His sight no one alive will be considered righteous on the ground of legalistic observance of Torah commands, because what the Torah really does is show people how sinful they are. But now, quite apart from Torah, God's way of making people righteous in His sight has been made clear-although the Torah and the Prophets give witnessto it as well- and it is a righteousness that comes from God, through the faithfulness of Yeshua the Messiah(Jesus the Christ), to all who continue trusting. For it makes no difference whether one is a Jew or a Gentile, since all have sinned and come short of earning God's praise. By God's grace, without earning it, all are granted the status of being considered righteous before Him, through the act redeeming us from our enslavement to sin that was accomplished through Messiah Yeshua. God put Yeshua forward as the kapparah (sacrifice of atonement) for sin through His faithfulness in respect to His bloody sacrificial death. This vindicated God's righteousness; because, in His forbearance, He had passed over(with neither punishment nor remission) the sins people had committed in the past; and it vindicates His righteousness in the present age by showing that He is righteous Himself and is also the One who makes people righteous on the ground of Yeshua's faithfulness. So what room is left for boasting? None at all! What kind of Torah excludes it? One that has to do with legalistic observance of rules? No, rather, a Torah that has to do with trusting (faith). Therefore, we hold the view that a person comes to be considered righteous by God on the ground of trusting(faith), which has nothing to do with legalistic observance of Torah commands. A word search and study of righteousness shows it is God's gift to us through Jesus. Romans 4:20-24 He did not by lack of trust decide against God's promises. On the contrary, by trust he was given power as he gave glory to God, for he was fully convinced that what God promised He could also accomplish. That is why it was credited to his account as righteousness... The scripture goes on to say that our account is credited likewise, through faith. Matthew 26:26 Blood of the new covenant 1 John 1:7 ...and the blod of Yeshua purifies (clesnses) us from all sin. Romans 5:8-9 But God demonstrates His love for us in that the Messiah died on our behalf while we were still sinners. Therefore, since we have now come to be considered righteous by means of His bloody sacrificial death, how much more will we be delivered through Him from the anger of God's judgement! We are cleansed through the blood sacrifice of Jesus, and received the Gift of God's righteousness. Then: Ephesians 1:11-14 ....the Good News offering for your deliverance, and put your trust in the Messiah were sealed by Him with the Ruach HaKodesh(Holy Spirit), who guarantees our inheritance... Does this answer your question? God bless |

My friend, forgive me if I am wrong but I hear 'offense' in your tone. Let me explain something that my previous post may have not made clear. As a child of God, our first and foremost obligation is to love and to love is to spread the gospel-the good news of Jesus the Messiah's salvation. We would be doing you a grave injustice if we did not ask these questions and attempt to guide someone/anyone in the direction of the cross where salvation is obtained. Especially in this time we are in with relativism being taught as truth, are we obligated to ask. When you stand before the Lord, I do not want your blood on my hands because I did not tell you the truth. Actually the question," Why should I let you into my heaven?" has only one response that will be acceptable to the Lord: Because I am washed in the blood of the lLamb, Jesus the Christ. All our righteousness, all our justification has been given to us as a free gift through Jesus sacrificial death and His ressurrection wherein He sent the Holy Spirit and sealed our covenant. The righteousness and justification we possess through faith is HIS righteousness and HIS justifiction and we are 'clothed' in them by faith. God Bless |

Truth Fighter...Your question,'How do I restore peace in my family' may be found in a few questions. Are you a member of your father's church? Did you take a stand against him thus challenging his authority? You may want to repent for this action and confess that the manner in which you handled this disagreement was incorrect. First, pray and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and favor with your father. Then purhaps you should tell your father from the heart that you want the family to return to being peaceful and until the Holy Spirit shows you otherwise you would rather keep this subject "off limits". If you are a member, and strongly disagree, (as it appears you do) you should take the matter of where you should hold membership before the Holy Spirit. To strongly disagree with a church order that strongly believes, will always cause a problem. We should not hold membership with a church body we strongly disagree with on issues of importance to that body. You will not be 'in agreement' with them. Your father may agree to disagree as long as you agree to no longer discuss it with family and members. Let them search out the scriptures for themselves and be fully persuaded in their own hearts, and if they ask, suggest they do just that. I hope this helps, God bless |

Although I agree that discussions must be kept in context of scripture and one should not be deliberately trying to cause dissension or disruptions on the forum, I must question whether a legitimate discussion of God's commands due to marital relations presented in a discreet context should be an acceptable topic. Now if radioman has the intention of creating chaos here, yes he should be repremanded. However, if he is seeking a sincere discussion of the Biblically sound subject af husband and wife relations, his post does not fit #3 I do realize that the subject of marital relations is extremely sensitive, but as long as the discussion is kept in scriptural context, and modest verbage, this is an excelent place to discuss it. Let's be honest, ANY subject can be offensive to someone and anyone can take any subject and apply #3. If noone is comfortable replying to a question of this sensitive nature, and it did sem that that was the case, then the subject will go dormant. Which is my intention. God bless |

491 | How does eternal security build faith? | Rev 3:5 | gracefull | 78951
Good afternoon philemcc, I had to chuckle as I myself have done this after a lengthy response. The problem lies, I believe with pastors and teachers not teaching the power of the gospel to deliver and set us free, Because I believe both stances bring bondage. There are some on one extreme side that says...no matter how you live, you are heaven bound. Then there is the other side, make sure you constantly repent because you may have sinned and don't know it and if the Lord comes you will be lost. OHHHHHHH! Both grieve me in my spirit because both defeat the ultimate goal of Jesus-to redeem us from all past sins and set us FREE from the rule of sin in our lives, and cover us with grace while we grow toward that goal. One compels to continue carelessly through life and the other binds us not to move at all! Who the son sets free is truly free, dead to sin and free to walk in newness of life!Let's move on to learn how to live in that newness of life! From the heart! |

493 | How does eternal security build faith? | Rev 3:5 | gracefull | 78942
I see God's wisdom in this scripture Hebrew 2:14-16 Froasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil; And deliver them that through FEAR(my caps) of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. God's children can't live as children whe the fear of death hovers over them. Whe we recognize that we are free we can move forward and not be afraid that we will be sent to hell if we miss some 'ordinance'. We are to move forward in faith in His love, mercy and grace, growing up in Christ. Fear of eternal punishment NEVER promotes a loving relationship. It compels us at the point of salvation to choose... then we are children commanded to grow up in Christ by faith. God bless |

495 | One save always saved? | John 5:24 | gracefull | 78829
Hi Jane, I am not sure about your Acts translation. Is that Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them," repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the Holy Spirit. If so , Peter was not speaking to believers but non believers to repent. (as I said earlier, I absolutely do believe Christians must repent when they sin) 2 Peter 3..I see this in context speaking of to believers on how to respond when mockers come and say 'we have heard this warning that the Lord is coming and it has not happened.' These are not believers mocking, these are nonbelievers mocking the the message of the gospel..ie repent for the Lord is coming back. This is not speaking of losing salvation but speaking of those who reject Jesus because they can't SEE physical evidence. I do not believe these scriptures do not address the subject of eternal security, but am open to discuss each one individually. God bless, |

496 | One save always saved? | John 5:24 | gracefull | 78812
Hi Jane, not to address your entire post at this time, but to simply pull one scripture to address. Luke 13:3 The subject matter is the assumption made by those asking Jesus to respond to this occurance. Jesus read the hearts of the questioning party to be the assumption that some sins are worse than others and that these sinners were 'worse' sinners because of the horror of their sin. Jesus was constantly having to deal with the religious arrogance of the people. Jesus is stating that ALL sin in the eyes of God is the same. And everyone must repent. I believe this scripture could be crossreferenced to "You must be born again".(John 3:2-7) Also, He is not speaking to re-born believers. Might I suggest that the issue of once saved/always saved or losing our salvation is a debate born in fear. Believers should have their focus on learning to walk in the liberty we have received from Jesus, walking by faith in the fact that we have been given Jesus's righteousness and justification and God is looking at that, not us. There are many warnings in the scriptures that tell believers not to frustrate the grace of God, not to walk in darkness when we have been given light. I take the position on this subject that if one is looking for a justification to sin, their heart is not right with God and thaey need to refocus. On the other hand, one walking if fear of losing their salvation is equally bound and is not receiving and walking in the peace and rest Jesus paid the awesome price to pay. This takes the focus off the imature position of self which both sides of this argument position themselves. Over observance of our every thought in fear that Jesus blood will fall short, and over observance of self that Jesus blood eliminates accountability. So when I speak to others about this 'doctrine' I always try to point them to relationship which eliminates the fear and trusts instead, because trust or faith recognizes Jesus redeemed us to be free from the control of sin and to be blessed when we walk in obedience. Paul says how can we who are dead to sin walk or live any longer in sin? God Bless, |

Phil.2:12-13 So, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey now when I am away from your: keep working our your deliverance with fear and trembling, for God is the one working among you both the willing and the working for what pleases Him. Salvation being the process of gaining and walking in the blessings and deliverance provided through Jesus Christ. This SALVATION is not ETERNAL LIFE spoken of in John 3:16, but rather a continual process of growth. I think we believers tend to use these two interchangaly as I did in my previous post in error. We read 'eternal life' and think 'salvation' or we read 'salvation' and think 'eternal life'. I should have said that works are not the 'Wages' of obtaining eternal life. Our effort is to believe God and act on His word, and HE provides the increase. If I believe God for my provision based on His Word and act in obedience, He will provide. It is a covenant with both parties involved. God is the one who brings souls into the Kingdom but we are the one's who preach and teach the truth. God is the one who delivers by His power but He works through us. Collosians 1:9-13 Therefore, from the day we heard of it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and understanding which the Spirit gives; so that you may live lives worthy of the Lord and entirely pleasing to Him, being fruitful in every good work and multiplying in the full knowledge of God. We pray that you will be continually strengthened with alL the power that comes from His glorious might...giving thanks to the Father for having made you fit to share in the inheritance of His people in the light. God empowers us with His Spirit and enlightens us with His Word to know His will and do His service. But we are not puppets, therefore we must act or do or work the works He has called and equiped us to do. From this perspective, it IS God's work, and it is God's equiping and our yielded will and vessel. A COVENANT WORK. God bless |
