321 | Once saved are you going to heaven? | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 86875
Hello John, I do not desire to get into this discussion of predestination, but would like to question your use of this one scripture reference to prove it. In context Jesus is speaking to His disciples concerning the one who will betray Him. As the disciples ask 'Is it I?' Jesus responds... John 13:18 18 but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.' There is no reason to asume this scripture is speaking generally about all 'chosen' but rather to this specific few "I do not speak of all of YOU (present is understood). I know the ones I have chosen;" The fact that He specifically singled out and chose these disciples is not in question. I do not believe this verse in context is an asset to your case. God bless |

322 | Gender?? | Deut 6:4 | gracefull | 86757
You are absolutely correct...I had initially decided not to use this verse because it really does not speakd directly concerning God's gender but rather the culture of Heaven where God is, but decided at the last minute that is was relevant. In my rush, I did not copy and paste. Thank you for the correction. God bless |

323 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | gracefull | 86669
Hi Tim, Let me ask a question here. In the context the 'What If' is not actually a question of whether God did or did not. It is not a supposition? Such as 'what if my great grandmother was a monkey?' as is used as a comparison or in other words,'Suppose my great gandmother was a monkey..?'But there is not a difinitive answer. Romans 9:21-21 But who are you, a mere man, to criticize and contradict and answer back to God? Will what is formed say to him that formed it, Why have you made me thus? [Isa. 29:16; 45:9.] Rom 9:21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same mass (lump) one vessel for beauty and distinction and honorable use, and another for menial or ignoble and dishonorable use? WHAT IS THAT TO YOU? So to speak.. And then goes on to verify this truth in... Romans 9:24-26 Even including ourselves whom He has called, not only from among the Jews but also from among the Gentiles (heathen)? Just as He says in Hosea, Those who were not My people I will call My people, and her who was not beloved [I will call] My beloved. [Hos. 2:23.] And it shall be that in the very place where it was said to them, You are not My people, they shall be called sons of the living God. [Hos. 1:10.] In other words, this is not a question.. Example: One child says to another, "You spilled milk on the table." The other child responds, "What if I did? What business is that of yours?" The second chils is making the point that it is not the first child's business because the first child has not authority over him. I do not believe Paul is asking the question 'did God do this', but is rather challenging the Jews' right to question God's decision. The 'what if' is asking the Jews 'God did this...so what is that to you?' In this light, I do not believe the translators answered a qestion, but rather attempted to make clear that God's action is not in queston here. That's how I see it.. God bless |

326 | Why was the Holy Spirit delayed? | Acts 8:16 | gracefull | 86306
Hi Ray, My use of the word it is in reference to the subject 'delay' and not the Holy Spirit. I was having a distracted day yesterday and not much made sense. I was thinking in relation to Hebrews, merely contemplating but not yet studying in depth, as to what was taking place in Heaven for this period of time..Why did God initiate the time-table He did between Passover and Pentecost? Just curious.. I was thinking of the entire discourse pertaining to the comparison between the earthly sacrificial ritual and the heavenly, as this scripture tells us the earthly was patterned after the heavenly. Hebrews 9:23 "It was therefore necessary that the PATTERNS(my emphasis) of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the HEAVENLY THINGS(my emphasis) themselves with better sacrifices than these." God bless |

327 | Why was the Holy Spirit delayed? | Acts 8:16 | gracefull | 86291
Thank you for your response. I re read Acts 1 and 2 this morning and understood that the 10 day waut was for the Day of Pentecost. "I understood the question to be about why the Samaritans did not recieve it until later, and there is no reason to call it a delay but a progression of the continual world evangelism still ongoing." You are correct here as well. Apparently my attentions were divided yesterday, because I certainly was not 'in tune' with the thread. My apologies. God Bless |

328 | Why was the Holy Spirit delayed? | Acts 8:16 | gracefull | 86228
Hello Scrbe, You said... I don't see any reference to a delay. As you read through the book of Acts after Acts 2 you see several accounts of believers recieving the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues and prophesying. It was poured out initially on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 on the 120 in the Upper Room." I believe the question is speaking of the delay of the Holy Spirit for ten days after Jesus Christ's ascension. I asked myself this same question not long ago...But did not study it out. I wonder if it has anything to do with Hebrews chapters 8-14? Or maybe the key is in tarrying? Any insight? Or maybe someone else here on the forum has studied this out and can offer some light. God bless |

329 | The Rich Man and Lazarus... | Luke 16:23 | gracefull | 85972
Hi, If I may, a couple of things jumpped out as I read your post. First: "the Gospel, the New Covenant, would go to the Gentiles and the Jews- The Rich Man- would loose his covenant favor with God and Lazarus- the Gentile nations would then be in Abraham's Bosom, or under Covenant Favor- under the Great Abrahamic Covenant- 'in thee and THY SEED shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.'" But scripture says... Romans 11:1 "I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin." Matthew 13 34 "These things all taken together Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, without a parable He said nothing to them." Out of time, I will have to deal with #2 later. God Bless |

330 | communion: symbolic or something more? | 1 Cor 11:29 | gracefull | 85948
"Since the covenant that Jesus instituted is the Lords Supper, that same presence must be manifest in the elements of the covenant." When the 'covenant' is studied out, the elements of the Lord's Supper have to be symbolic. The New Covenant bought by Jesus shed blood is not 'symbolic'. The actual shedding of His blood is the initiation of the New Covenant. Had He not gone to the cross and shed His blood, there would be no covenant. When Jesus said as often as you do this, do in rememberance, means just that. The initiating of the covenant was done before the creation of the world. Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: And the first shed blood was in Genesis. Genesis 3:21 All the covenants of the Old Covenant were steps or the progression of God to the point of sending Jesus, the final sacrifice and the mediator of the New Covenant. Romans 8: 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood HE ENTEREND IN ONCE into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. I believe the New Covenant was initiated By God before the foundation of the world and became the active will upon the death of Jesus, when the blood was spilled. God bless |

331 | No, the dead are still DEAD...not alive! | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 85677
Strongs # 2416 I do not see 'living soul here'. This is the description of man and beast without a soul. living, alive green (of vegetation) flowing, fresh (of water) lively, active (of man) reviving (of the springtime) n m relatives life (abstract emphatic) life sustenance, maintenance n f living thing, animal animal life appetite revival, renewal community Strongs 5315 is a description of the soul...mind, will and emotions. soul, self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion, passion that which breathes, the breathing substance or being, soul, the inner being of man living being living being (with life in the blood) the man himself, self, person or individual seat of the appetites seat of emotions and passions activity of mind dubious activity of the will dubious activity of the character dubious There is physical life, the biological workings of the body, and there is the soul which lives forever. 332 | No, the dead are still DEAD...not alive! | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 85597
After reading through this thread, I noticed that the scripture which brings balcance to the truth of scripture, rightly dividing the Word, were not responded to. While I appreciate the fact that you have a good deal of scripture reference, you did not address any of the scriptures that were used to attempt to get you to consider that maybe your conclusions might be wrong. For instance there is ample scripture here to prove that whe Jesus told the family "She is not dead, only sleeping." was He really saying her soul was asleep? Or was He rather refering to the body that does not get raised until the last trumpet? I suggest you go back through and reconsider. After all, a teachable spirit is the only way to truth. If your conclusion cannot stand the test of other scripture, it needs to be reconsidered. If Truth is the goal that's the way to go. If conflict and debate is the goal....the discussion if futile. God bless |

333 | Biblical support for your statements | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 85590
"Furthermore, it is hard to understand how Christian people who claim to be civilized to such an extent that they would not tolerate parents roasting their children in an oven, or roasting or otherwise practicing cruelty to dumb animals, and who claim to have too much love in their own hearts to torture their own children in fire, no matter what the children would do, can truly worship, reverence and love a God who they claim is not even up to their own standards of civilization and love and compassion, and who they claim will eternally torture and torment the great bulk of His human creatures. ’77-87" "For God so LOVED the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes on His should not perish but have eternal life" Satan's lie is not that God chooses to send people to Hell, but truth is that God has done all He can do to provide mankind the way from Hell, but man still chooses to reject the Way (Jesus). God does not make the choice, just as He id not make the choice in the garden, but rather Adam and Eve. God bless |

334 | What do you believe? | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 85588
" simply say they have entered into the Lords rest." This statement is not scriptural..the only two times in scripture where the Lord's rest is spoken of is speaking in reference to God's people coming into the place of God's promise. In the Old Covenant it speaks of Israel entering the Promised land and being able to settle and cease from wondering. Joshua 1:15 Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising. Nest in reference to us coming into the salvation through Jesus blood, which is the place of rest believers are in now. Hebrews 4 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. While this is not necessarily a substantial effort to prove your beliefs unscripturally, it should at least convince you to reconsider your 'doctrinal stance' of death being the 'Lord's rest'. Scripturally this is not a true statement. God bless, |

335 | No, the dead are still DEAD...not alive! | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 85586
"People who beleive in Christians going to heaven at death must also beleive that animals go to heaven or hell at death also. Since both have the breath of life, and both have souls." Matt..animals do not have a soul. Genesis 1...man is made in the image of God and in His likeness, a living soul. Isaiah 38:16 O LORD, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Matt, God did not breath into any animal's nostrils, but rather 'spoke' them into existence. 1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Job 10:12 Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit. Job 33:4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. When reading scripture one must listen to the text and determing as the Holy Spirit leads, when it is speaking of physical death of the body or spiritual death of the spirit condemned to hell, or the spirit of man redeemed and promised eternal life with the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. We are spirit, we have a soul(mind, will, emotions) and we live in a body. Matt, I have a question for you....does scripture not say that we will be resurrected forever to be with the Lord? Is that not eternal life? Mark 12:24-27 24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. 26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err. Romans 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 1 John 3:1-3 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Matt...do you not hope in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour for your eternal soul to live with the Lord through eternity as scripture promises? If not.....what is your hope? God bless |

337 | Christians? | James 1:22 | gracefull | 85218
"If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person's religious service is worthless (futile, barren). James 1:27 External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world." I do not believe, James is not speaking of salvation here, but rather unfruitful believers. Unfruitful because the Word of truth is not being allowed to 'change' them which is the progressive work of the Holy Spirit and the Word mixed with faith. Got to go, we can talk more tomorrow. I will read Acts tonight for fresh input. God bless |
