201 | The ransom - God or man? | 1 Cor 15:21 | flinkywood | 132746
Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own flesh and blood, God the angel Michael, not his own flesh and blood (Acts 20:28, NWT). Who made the greater sacrifice, Abraham or God. Is your answer to question 2 that the angel who became Satan and the angel who became Jesus were spirit brothers? Colin |

Alien, This is a reposting to you. I have 2 questions about JW dogma, 1) Since Abraham sacrificed his own flesh and blood, and God only a creation, was Abraham's a more perfect sacrifice than God's? 2) Being an angel, is Jesus a spirit brother of Satan? Colin |

Dalcent, I'm sure you agree that there have been holy "Protestants" and holy "Catholics" (I think particularly about Corrie ten Boom's "The Hiding Place"). It's a drag to get into a shooting match in here, especially when the crux of our calling isn't doctrinal but how we respond to Matthew 25:40, "Y respondiendo el Rey, les dirá: De cierto os digo que en cuanto lo hicisteis á uno de estos mis hermanos pequeñitos, á mí lo hicisteis." I'm confident it's possible to make a persuasive defense of Catholic faith w/o sparking a mini-reformation in this forum. Colin |

Dalcent, I Googled Catholic sources for Luke 23:43. Here’s what I found. http://www.catholic.com/library/Purgatory.asp and, CCC: 1472: “..A conversion which proceeds from a fervent charity can attain the complete purification of the sinner in such a way that no punishment would remain." The NT indicates a third place, neither heaven nor hell, a place where Jesus went to preach the Gospel after the resurrection (1 Peter 4.6). Also, in the story of Lazarus and the poor man (Luke 16:19-31) Jesus describes “Abraham’s bosom” as a place far more congenial than where the rich man abides in agony. Scripture indicates Abraham’s bosom, not Heaven, as the Paradise where Jesus dined with the thief. Colin |

Dalcent, thank you. Also, regarding the thief on the cross and Jesus' promise to him, "...Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (Luk 23:43), since John 20.17 indicates several days elapsed before Christ ascended to the Father, what Paradise is Jesus referring to? What is the Catholic teaching on this verse? Colin |

Dalcent, "God uses physical matter imbued with spiritual realities as avenues of His grace." Just as His word became flesh? Colin |

Mommapbs, Remember when Makarios took his sabbatical a year or so ago? I never knew why, exactly, but I sensed he'd become exasperated by the moveable beast that is the Forum. In my early twenties I took up boxing. I thought it would make me braver, manlier, etc. I learned 2 things through boxing 1) it hurts, and 2) I didn't crave the state of mind conducive to the knocking out of an opponent whom I hardly knew and whose courage I admired. But the spirit of fighting remains in me, for this reason I don't watch boxing or other violent sports because, well, they make me feel like fighting, which also makes me feel exasperated and, frankly, stupid for watching. The Forum, though hardly a Roman forum, (a good topic for another string?), has also begun to stir me up of late. So, like Makarios, I'll be hanging up the gloves for a spell. I think you understand. 218 | Are we free from KEEPING the Law? | Ex 20:8 | flinkywood | 119630
Rowdy, To not recognize the absolute moral requirement that we all adhere to the 10 Commandments is a failing immensely less "productive" than any other topic you could possibly find more worthy (read "less difficult"). This is a core problem with your understanding of the New Covenenant, one that is consistently demonstrated by your scattershot approach to bible study. I see no agreement between you and Kalos on this matter as you stubbornly resist reason and post confusion on this for all to see, both new Christians and old. What or who on earth are you listening to? Colin |

Yes... Oh, and David didn't really fall on his face begging God's forgiveness, did he? And, oh, I hear 1 John 1.9 is just a gloss. "Let's break out the booze and have a ball, if that's all there is." Peggy Lee Colin |
