841 | the last Adam | 1 Cor 15:45 | azurelaw | 218020
Dear YenIsaRap, A belated welcome to the forum. I think the subject of discussion is pretty interesting :-) Gen 2:17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Gen 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was GOOD FOR FOOD, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. In response to your point 1/, I am afraid that I cannot agree with your notion that the opposite of the Tree of Life is the Tree of Knowledge. There is no mention that it (the Tree of Knowledge) bears the fruit of death. Death, as you have mentioend, is the consequence of Adam and Eve's disobedience in eating the fruit of the tree. Concerning the immortality of man before the fall, if my logic (mine is pretty poor) sounds, what would be the outcome of the earth with the continuous growing population (Gen 1:27-28) IF the first parents did not fall? So, how should we understand "death"? I believe (as most do) death is a life that is apart from the presence of God (Gen 3:9). This is the immediate effect as warned in Gen 2:17. Since all good things are from God (Psalm 16:2), thus all aspects of our physical life have been perverted as we are apart from God. Scripture seems not very clear if human are physically immortal before the fall; however, when I consider Matthew 22:30, I would side with the physical mortal before the fall (but I would not be dogmatic on this and am still need further study). Thank you for your input and good to have this discussion. Shalom Azure |

Dear biblebeliever, With all due respect and love, I wish you could withdraw your statement as such "...the bait you've tossed..." which looks like to me that you are accusing a forum participant for his dishonest without solid proof. We are responsible for our words (as Doc has addressed) on a public forum though misunderstanding may arise. Therefore, we should always be open-minded in face of queries for clarifcation or correction since through all these, we may grow together. Blessings to you. Shalom Azure |

843 | Hank | 2 Cor 1:10 | azurelaw | 215466
Respectfully submitted in memory of our dear brother Hank. ********* O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free! Rolling as a mighty ocean In its fullness over me! Underneath me, all around me, Is the current of Your love Leading onward, leading homeward To Your glorious rest above! O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Spread His praise from shore to shore, How His love is never-ending, And it changes nevermore; How He watches o’er His loved ones, Died to call them all His own; How for them He’s interceding, Watching o’er them from the throne. O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Love of ev’ry love the best: ‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing, ‘Tis a haven sweet of rest. O the deep, deep love of Jesus! ‘Tis a heav’n of heav’ns to me; And it lifts me up to glory, With You evermore to be. |

846 | Building up for His Glory | 2 Cor 6:4 | azurelaw | 216791
The test of life are to make, not break us. Trouble may demolish a man's business but build up his character. The blow at the outward man may be the greatest blessing to the inner man. If God, then, puts or permits anything hard in our lives, be sure that the real peril, the real trouble, is that we shall lose if we flinch or rebel. --- Maltbie D. Babcock |

Dear John, Yes, as you said in a ROUNDABOUT way :-) When I made my answer, I only considered cases with the DIRECT intervention from God. Therefore, I left out Isaac and Rebekah. Of course, we all understand that God is at all sovereign. Matthew 10:29-30 Shalom Azure |

852 | Is tithing a command for chriatians? | 2 Cor 9:7 | azurelaw | 214875
Dear Pastor Beja, You said: He points out that the law is there to restrain the evil of evil doers, not the good of those who do good. Allow me to sum up what I believe him to be thinking here (but do read the passage). The idea is this, if we are truely following the spirit, and following Christ's leading we will be so far from the idea of stealing that the rule is pointless to us. We will be so far from the idea of murdering that the rule will have no bearing on us. It would be like telling somebody headed to Mexico that they can not go into Canada. The law has no application on one that is constantly asking "How may I most glorify Christ and serve others today?" So the law wholely remains upon us that stealing is wrong, that coveting is wrong, that lying is wrong, that murder is wrong, and we shall not do these things, no will it ever be abolished (as Christ said), it will never be permisable to us. Righteousness did not stope being righteousness when you and I were saved. But in Paul's eyes, "what does that have to do with you and me?" We are bound to Righteousness and following Christ, a restriction holding back the evil of an evil doer is not our concern, following Christ is. I have to agree with you with a big amen! I like the analogy you used :-) I remember when I was a young christian, the moral law being taught so much on the pulpit had either been a burden or a stumbling block of self-righteousness to me that proved I did not understand the Gospel and Its Power. Sadly that nowadays, still, on the pulpit, the Gospel is rarely taught in depth (I think not only the unbelievers need to hear the Gospel, believers have to always hear and meditate the Gospel -- 1 Cor 15:1-2) but being replaced by the repetition of moral teachings. This is one of my favourite quotes which I would like to share with you: "Keep your heart, O believer, much beneath the cross, your conscience in frequent and close contact with the blood, and the slightest touch of sin will make you restless and unhappy until you have confessed, and God has forgiven. This is the secret -- which, alas! few see, or care to know -- of preserving the garments white amid pollution, the mind serene amid turmoil, the heart happy amid sorrow, the life radiant and transparent as the sun, and the spirit, temper, and carriage Christ-loving, and Christ-like. Oh the wonders of the precious blood of Christ! Who can exalt it too highly, adore it too profoundly, love, magnify, and honor it too deeply and exclusively? Will it not constitute the theme of our study, the burden of our song, and the source of our bliss as ages roll on, and never cease to roll? Beloved, the surprise then will be, that here below we should have prized it so little, traveled to it so infrequently, and glorified it so imperfectly, and have regarded it with an affection so fickle and so cold!" --Octavius Winslow Shalom Azure |

857 | Why was the thorn given | 2 Cor 12:7 | azurelaw | 208859
Dear dispen4ever, I found the below post (134947) provided by our old timer Kalos is helpful for understanding the thron given to Paul. ***** 'because of the abundance of the revelations. Therefore, that I might not become too elated, [3]a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel (messenger, Greek: angelos, Strong's #32) of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.' 2 Cor 12:7 (New American Bible) (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/2corinthians/2corinthians12.htm) Footnote 3. '[7] That I might not become too elated: God assures that there is a negative component to his experience, so that he cannot lose proper perspective; cf 2 Cor 1:9; 4:7-11. 'A thorn in the flesh: variously interpreted as a sickness or physical disability, a temptation, or a handicap connected with his apostolic activity. But since Hebrew "thorn in the flesh," like English "thorn in my side," refers to persons (cf Numbers 33:55; Ezekiel 28:24), Paul may be referring to some especially persistent and obnoxious opponent. The language of 2 Cor 12:7-8 permits this interpretation. 'If this is correct, the frequent appearance of singular pronouns in depicting the opposition may not be merely a stylistic variation; the singular may be provoked and accompanied by the image of one individual in whom criticism of Paul's preaching, way of life, and apostolic consciousness is concentrated, and who embodies all the qualities Paul attributes to the group. 'An angel of Satan: a personal messenger from Satan; cf the satanic language already applied to the opponents in 2 Cor 11:3, 13-15, 20.' ***** Shalom Azure |
