542 | Contemporizing Christians Message? | 2 Tim 4:2 | Val | 205866
The topic is the "word of the Lord" This verse goes along with the topic. I particularly like the encourgement that the LORD gave Abram 1) that the LORD is Abram's shield (his protection, refuge, defense) and 2)your reward shall be great (Abram will receive a reward for his obedience) Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." |

Dear Doc, should the topic of love be viewed in its context, rather than being a pat answer for all of life's problems? Loving people does not mean letting them use us to disobey God. Isn't love a complicated subject? For instance the first verse that comes up when searching the topic on love is:Gen 22:2 He said, "Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you." The world would not see this as love would they? Blessings, Val |

Dear Doc, Exactly, the liberal theology gives the interpreter more leeway in their interpretations rather than making the bible their plumbline. Their interpretations have to line up with the bible not the other way around. This is why context is so crucial and why the further we get from the literal texts the closer we get to error. One example is if I wrote someone a letter and they pulled out one line of my letter. They could bend it to whatever form they like. This is what many news medias do. They bend a comment to their particular liking. The author of the line in frustration says that is not what I meant at all. Blessings, Val |

I was not alluding to you in answer to your question: "What makes you say that I was alluding or referring to the translators of the NASB as having interpreted Scripture through translation?" It was a quote showing why I like the NASB. It might be helpful if things are not taken so personally. I think I have told you this before. "Its not about you" I am ending this discussion. Peace |

548 | Why do we need the law if we have grace? | Heb 1:1 | Val | 213201
I didn't say we keep the law to obtain grace. We have a free will to keep the moral law. We chose to obey or disobey. What is your point about the law? Where are you going with this? Do you want to look at a passage? |

549 | How does God communicate with us? | Heb 1:1 | Val | 213292
Passage: Hebrews 1:1-2 Why does God speak to the general population differently that He spoke to the prophets and apostles of old, i.e. audible voice, dreams, visions and secondly; How does the Holy Spirit speak to people today, i.e. audible voice, dreams, visions? |

Thank you Doc. So for those who might not understand the word advent, you are saying when Christ came to earth the first time until He comes in the future the second time. What would you say to people who want to look outside of the Holy Scriptures for guidance from God? Is the closing of the canon the reason we do not do this? Sincerely, Val

Dear Brad, Sometimes when we jump in in midstream of a topic it gets confusing. I am afraid that is what you have done. If you would read the weeks posts you will see how this discussion of scripture unfolded. The topic was not the Holy Spirit or cessation. Sincerely, Val

Dear Makarios, what a wonderful commentary on this topic. Thank you. You have obviously studied this topic thoroughly. Thank you for the longer version. Everything in the Old Testament and New Testament follows the theme of Jesus Christ. His coming and dying on the cross and being resurrected is the culmination of what was revealed in the Old Testament to the prophets. The New Testament explains what this revelation means. God has a plan for the world. In the context of the last days and the Hebrew 1: 1-2 passage, what Jesus spoke and taught His apostles who wrote down His words, he has showed us what will happen in the future as you have expounded upon directly from scripture. I appreciate your post. Sincerely, Val

557 | need information on galatians Chapter 6 | Heb 3:12 | Val | 209073
When Christ came the first time and brought in the new covenant the message was proclaimed to all the people. There were many responses to His message. Some embraced the message but when persecution started they decided maybe it wasn't what they wanted. Some wanted to mix the priethood of the old covenant with the new covenant. This was not proper. The Apostle Paul explains in several of his letters why. It was especially hard for those in positions of leadership, the priesthood, to give up their exalted positions. Their influence caused an uproar in some of the cities Paul visited. They would follow him around and cause trouble. Some who seemed to receive the message went back to the old covenant maybe to please their peers and the priests. A study of faith and hearts might help you understand this topic. A study of the priesthood, Leviticus, a study of Hebrews, the new covenant compared to the old covenant, a study of Acts, the history of the church, and Paul's epistles, shows this controversy. Blessings - Val |

Original Question was I need information on Galatians Chapter 6:1-8. It has to do with the falling away. I await your response. Maybe you can direct me to a place. My Answer was: When Christ came the first time and brought in the new covenant the message was proclaimed to all the people. There were many responses to His message. Some embraced the message but when persecution started they decided maybe it wasn't what they wanted. Some wanted to mix the priesthood of the old covenant with the new covenant. Blessings - Val Your response to my answer was: Miss Val: I am looking in your teaching you are saying many of things I am not fully understanding from you. I am listing your question/comments and following each one is my answer. Question 1) This new covenant message is salvation is it not. Answer: Yes, Read the letter to the Hebrews. Mark covenant in one color when it is in reference to the Old Covenant and Mark covenant in a different color when it is reference to the New Covenant. Also mark any synonyms. After you have made these markings, make two columns with one side writing the verses in reference to the Old Covenant and side two with the verses in reference to the New covenant. After you have completed this make an additional column showing how Christ is better than the Old Covenant. Question 2) When Jesus proclaimed the covenant message to all the people did he do it in telling them he was the savior. Answer – Yes Question 3) you then teach the responses of the people to his message were many does not the bible say his message from his beginning was The Kingdom is at hand? Answer – Yes Question 4) Also all of his teachings on the parables is this what you are teaching on when you say some believed what he was saying then when the persecutions started then they stopped following is that not the parable about the one sowing? Answer – I don’t know. Comment 5) I am not finding in my reading where you are saying the priesthood is causing the problems as you say I think it is speaking of the devout Jews in the towns where Paul was going to do the teaching in. Answer – Read the letter to the Hebrews. Mark priest in one color and priest when it refers to Christ in a different color. Continue the assignment as in the answer to Question 1. Comment 6) Maybe I am not understanding clearly from you teaching maybe you are saying the ones in the authority of them was the other Apostles those were saying that the Gentiles would having to be circumcised and following the laws no eating of the blood of the animals and the things that are being chocked is those the ones you are saying about causing like you are saying some of the people to be falling away and going back because of the peers of them Answer: No I was talking about the priests/leaders under the old covenant. Question 7) Am I right in the way I am sending this to you? Answer – Yes I use the inductive study bible by Kay Arthur that can be purchased at this site. At the beginning of each book of the bible are questions to look for in the text that will help you to study the bible. There is no way I can teach you these things myself in this forum, however I can show you how to study to find the answers yourself and that is by directing you to this bible. That is why I included in my post to the original question the books of the bible that reference this topic. Leviticus, Hebrews, Acts, Paul’s epistles. Again, welcome to the forum. I hope I have answered your questions so far. Blessings – Mrs. Val |

No offense was taken Kcab. I use the Precept Upon Precept bible studies found at Precept.org. I am currently studying Hebrews Part 2. There is a resource that is not affliated with Precept.org which is called Preceptaustin. You may enjoy looking at the commentaries there. It also explains the inductive method among many other good articles. I really don't know how to explain things in a forum like this. Sorry I could not be of more help. Blessings -Val |

560 | Jesus our Great High Priest | Heb 4:14 | Val | 209924
Heb 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Heb 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Heb 4:16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Point One - Jesus sees all. Point Two - Jesus, our High Priest, has passed through the heavens. Point Three - Jesus is the Son of God. Point Four - Jesus, our High Priest, can sympathize with our weaknesses. Point Five - Jesus was tempted in all things and did not sin. Point Six - We can draw near with confidence to our Great High Priest knowing He will help us showing us grace and mercy to help us in our time of need. |
