"William Tyndale (1493-1536) devoted his life to translating the Bible from the original Greek and Hebrew into English. His print shop was raided and destroyed by the city officials because it was an illegal operation. Tydale was executed for his "heretical" efforts. His last words, in the form of a prayer, were "Lord, open the King of England's eyes." Just three years later, King Henry VIII ordered that every church in England have a copy of the Scriptures in English. Tyndale's Bible would become the basis for the King James Bible, first published in 1611 which, for many today, is still considered England's "official" Bible." taken from "A Guide to the Scriptorium", The Holy Land Experience. It is easy to criticize but more appropriate would be a thankful heart for those men God used to bring the bible to us. These men who were martyred for the word of God are in my estimation most honorable. I am thankful that my God raised up men such as Tyndale for such a time as this. Brother John - thank you and Cheri for your kind words. How wonderful is God our Father and His Son Christ Jesus our Lord. We serve a living God and a living person in our Lord Christ Jesus. His bible is His love letter to us. When someone sends me a letter I read the whole letter. If I only read one line out of the letter, I would not know what the sender was trying to tell me. Most times I would read it over and over and over and the more I poured over it the more I understood the one who wrote it to me. What a privilege that the God of the universe has sent us several letters in the bible. I want to read them myself. My good friends might tell me what the letter says, but I have to see it firsthand for myself. As we pour over these letters it is such a privilege to find people such as you and Cheri who even want to read His letters and for that I am grateful. As another believer has said "Just give me Christ Jesus". May you grow in the grace and knowledge of God the Father and our Saviour His Son Christ Jesus. Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, Col 1:10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; Col 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, Col 1:14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. |

Thank you Sister Azure. Your words of encouragement are dearly appreciated. 1 Tim 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 1 Tim 2:2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Tim 2:3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 1 Tim 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Tim 2:6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. |

I am afraid it does, sorry, I don't agree with you. We already have established that. This is my view, not dogmatic, just a view: 2 Thess 2:1 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, (Please note the passage I quoted is speaking of our Lord's return and the believers being taken off of the earth, just as it is speaking in this passage, i.e., our gathering together to Him) 2 Thess 2:2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. (some were teaching that the great suffering they were experiencing was because the day of the Lord had already come and they had many questions and worries about it. The day of the Lord is a series of events.) 2 Thess 2:3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 2 Thess 2:4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. 2 Thess 2:5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 2 Thess 2:6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. (this takes place after the believers have been taken off the earth. We know that the work of the Holy Spirit is to live in believers and convict them of sin and enable them to live a life overcoming sin and live to righteousness, in other words, loving Christ Jesus and obeying Him) 2 Thess 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. (Anywhere you have godly people they influence the lives of others in their families, their co-workers, everywhere they go because an unbeliever sees their lives and how they follow Christ Jesus obeying Him, loving Him. This is a restraining influence because even those who do not follow Christ are affected by these believers) 2 Thess 2:8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; (Then is a time phrase - it tells when something is going to happen. We know that there are many, many names for the anti-christ and the lawless one is one of them. He does not follow Christ Jesus. He opposes Him and His followers but through the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers He is thwarted from doing as he pleases totally) 2 Thess 2:9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, (There is an appointed time for this and I believe that is what you and I differ on. So in the attitude of christain peacefulness let us not break fellowship because we do not agree, ok? I respect and value your thoughts and I hope you will show me the same respect even if it differs from yours. Thanking you in advance, your sister-in Christ) |

sqkeener1955, We are in a race in the christian life. Keep your eyes on the prize, the Lord Jesus. There are some good verses in the bible to hang on to when we feel frighted or inadequate. One I would suggest is that when you have these feelings is "When I am afraid I will trust in Jesus". You can say this over and over until the anxiety goes away. Tell Him you need Him and ask Him to calm you. Take time to get in a quiet, calming place away from the noise of the tv and radio and be still. Mediate on Jesus and how much He loves you. Also make time for yourself by going and having a complete physical, tell the doctor about your anxieties and see what suggestions he has for you. Sometimes diet and exercise as well as vitamins help. Be sure and pray and read the bible every day if just for a few minutes. Believe what it says and obey what it says and you will be fine. You can do it, remember Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you. So when you are feeling down, say I know you are with me Lord and will help me through these feelings. Thank you Lord for loving me. I praise you for you are my God and my Redeemer. Use your own words to express yourself to Him. Ask Him to help you accept the grief you still have for your son and work through the pain. He will help you. Ask Him to help you to forgive yourself for the failures you've made and then accept that forgiveness for yourself. Forgive yourself. Say I am covered by the blood of Jesus and I know that He has forgiven me because I seek to do His will and obey Him. Always remember that He paid your sin debt and cleansed you. It is because of what He did that you can face each day. Ask Him for strength and wisdom each day when you get up and at night ask Him to forgive you where you have failed Him and then thank Him for that forgiveness. God loves you so much. Lean on Him. Find a good song you like about His love and sing it in your heart every day. Sometimes good praise music, not sad music, helps our spirits and uplifts us. So stay away from the sad movies and tv programs and watch only wholesome programs. May God Bless and Keep You Val Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. |

Dr. Steeno, what do you ask for when you pray? Are you saying that after we have become a christian we no longer sin? If you don't mind me asking what denomination are you in that teaches this view?

Dr. Steeno, Thank you for providing the scripture. Tell me if I am wrong but I see you are discussing law and grace. Is it that you believe asking God to forgive us for our daily sins is somehow going back under the law?

The word "confess" means, literally, "to say the same thing." That is, we are to have the same attitude toward sin that God has. When God says in the Scriptures that something is sin, our immediate response should be, "That's right, Lord, that is sin. I renounce it. I agree with you about what it is and I am grateful for the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses from all sins. And I thank you, Lord, that you are faithful and just in your dealings with me." (It should be noted that in Greek the word "sin" in verse 9 is preceded by the definite article "the". Thus, God forgives "the sin" we confess but also cleanses us from all unrighteousness.) We experience renewed fellowship. Forgiveness of sin to maintain fellowship with the Lord depends on confession of sins, and cleansing of defilement from the sin nature depends on walking in the light. - Charles Swindoll and Roy Zuck Repetitive Fellowship Forgiveness: Time: When a Christian confesses his sin; Means: Jesus' ministry as the believer's High Priest; Nature: Conditioned on confession; Result: Fellowship with God Restored (1 John 1:9) - Wendell Miller |

God has provided for what may be called "initial judicial forgiveness" and also for "repetitive judicial forgiveness." The first provision - initial judicial forgiveness - is given when a person receives Christ as his or her Savior. This forgiviness of sins is availabe because of the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross. He has offered one sacrifice for sins forever, Heb 10:12. Any sins we commit after salvation is applied through Jesus Christ's continuing work as our Advocate each time we sin whether we confess the sin or not. As our Advocate Jesus Christ has paid for that sin on the cross too so we are still judicially (positionally) perfect, 1 John 2:1; this forgiveness is unconditional. This may be called "repetitive judicial forgiveness." The passage in question John 1:9 deals with our fellowship. We are to walk in the light. We do not have fellowship with Him if we are walking in darkness. When we confess our sins, the estrangement and loss of fellowship with the Lord is restored. In 1:9 the plural word "sins" suggests that John was referring to acts of sin,not the sin principle, as in verses 7 and 8. The blood of Jesus goes on cleansing us from sin as we walk in the light. But specific acts of sin are to be dealt with by confession and forgiveness. So this provision may be called "repetitive fellowship forgiveness." Charles Swindoll, Roy Zuck, Wendell Miller |

Yes the gnostic teaching had begun as history tells us. However, the purpose for John writing 1 John and determining who he is writing to might help us. John tells us in seven different verses his purpose for writing: 1:4 - And these things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. 2:1 - My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.. 2:12-14 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning, I am writing to you, young men, becuase you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong , and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 2:21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life. We see from these verses that John was writing to the believers and was warning them of those trying to deceive them, possibly the gnostics. |
