I think they call that double predistination. I have never read in the bible where God predistines anyone to torture. It is assumed. That is why we must look at the Whosoever will may come and It is not My will that any of these little ones should perish. That is the doctrine of the Responsiblity of Man where Spurgeon said if you read the sermon I pointed out that God gives us a measure of free will.

Dear Tam: A study of how the Holy Spirit and His relationship with Old Testament Saints will give insight on this question. We know that the Holy Spirit came upon those in the Old Testament and it was for the purpose: to commission them for service. We know in the Old Testament the Holy Spirit could also leave a person. This is the difference. In the New Testament, under the new covenant, the Holy Spirit indwells believers permanently. Concerning Christ and the apostles: This breathing on them the Holy Spirit was to enable them to do Christ's work, a commissioning. It was temporary and was of the same type that was bestowed on the Old Testament saints. The Holy Spirit could come upon the person but it could also leave. Now as we see in Acts where Christ told them to go and wait for the Holy Spirit this was after His death, burial and resurrection. He told them to go and wait until He poured out His Holy Spirit which would enable them, commission them. This time though it was a permanent sealing. Remember in David's confession, repentance He asked the Lord not to take His Holy Spirit from him. Remember Saul, the Holy Spirit left him. It is fascinating reading to read the people used of God in the Old Testament and how the Holy Spirit came upon them. It was a commission for service. Check it out. Absolutely beautiful. The second part of your question is about the word Petra. The study of this word will show that Peter was a little stone. Christ was the boulder. We are little stones too. I love that picture. 445 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Val | 204706
Yes I understand and never for a moment thought that was the case. I did go back and read the posts to try to learn. I looked up the terms used and saw one article concerning the altar call. I was not familiar with the original term but after reading the article I understood the defination. Now if it had been said I don't agree with using an altar call I would of known exactly what we were was talking about. I have not been to seminary and am not familiar with the language they use. I am not an intellectual. I did not go to college. I have a high school education. Doc is a wonderful, wonderful person and so are you John. I grew up in the tobacco fields of Tennessee so if you know anything about that life, it was a hard row to hoe, no pun intended!!!

Yes sir, I have read your last posts several times and I will be careful. You have some very good advice and have been very helpful. I can tell by the way you talk that you love the Lord very much. You will be rewarded for your faithfulness by the Lord. Thank you so much for your concern. I will watch out for the cults too. My prayers are with you. May God bless you - Val

I understand what your saying. One thing I think though is that when we throw everyone in one group its not accurate. The reason I say that is that I am not a dispensationalist. I just study the bible first before going to commentaries. There are many varying views within the different labels we place on people. For instance the world would throw all christians into one group so see in their eyes you would be in with all those people whose views you detest. They throw anyone who goes by the name christian into one and we know that isn't right don't we. So when we attack a certain group by labeling them its offensive isn't it? |

Same here, He was a character wasn't he. I liked the way he would say now you may disagree with me but if you want to be right you'll agree with me or something like that. And he would talk about his wife and where he has lived and pastored. I listened to him for years and have some of his books. Yea, I like his style. - Val

Doc, I hope you will read the entire sermon by Spurgeon. A Sermon (No. 207) Delivered on Sabbath Morning, August 1, 1858, by the REV. C. H. Spurgeon at the Music Hall, Royal Surrey Gardens The system of truth is not one straight line, but two. No man will ever get a right view of the gospel until he knows how to look at the two lines at once. I am taught in one book to believe that what I sow I shall reap: I am taught in another place, that "it is not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy." I see in one place, God presiding over all in providence; and yet I see, and I cannot help seeing, that man acts as he pleases, and that God has left his actions to his own will, in a great measure. Now, if I were to declare that man was so free to act, that there was no presidence of God over his actions, I should be driven very near to Atheism; and if, on the other hand, I declare that God so overrules all things, as that man is not free enough to be responsible, I am driven at once into Antinomianism or fatalism. That God predestines, and that man is responsible, are two things that few can see. They are believed to be inconsistent and contradictory; but they are not. It is just the fault of our weak judgment. Two truths cannot be contradictory to each other. If, then, I find taught in one place that everything is fore-ordained, that is true; and if I find in another place that man is responsible for all his actions, that is true; and it is my folly that leads me to imagine that two truths can ever contradict each other. These two truths, I do not believe, can ever be welded into one upon any human anvil, but one they shall be in eternity: they are two lines that are so nearly parallel, that the mind that shall pursue them farthest, will never discover that they converge; but they do converge, and they will meet somewhere in eternity, close to the throne of God, whence all truth doth spring. The entire sermon can be read at Spurgeon.org. It is titled Sovereign Grace and Man’s Responsibility. |

I don't know where you get the idea that God's sovereignty is stolen from him and imputed to fallen man. Again, I don't understand your perspective on this Doc. And I agree wholeheartedly that we were chosen from the foundation of the world. I echo with Mrs. Arthur I don't understand it all, but I stand in awe. I also believe we have a choice - that's the doctrine of man's responsibility, is it not? How these two doctrines reconcile no one knows or can explain it. As J. Vernon McGee said - Election is God's part.

I don't want to get in a debate about election and predistination Mr. Doc. OK? I don't know how to answer your questions because I do not think in the same relms as you do. Please don't get stirred up. :-) Blessings Val
456 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Val | 204644
Tamera: It just means that after the gospel is preached to them by the apostles- the choice is up to the person who hears the gospel message. Let me be more clear: One person may hear the message, unite faith with the message, resulting in forgiveness and receive eternal life. Or the person may not unite faith with the message, resulting in hardness of heart. They retain their sins. Their sins are not forgiven because they are not covered by the blood of Christ Jesus. If they go out into eternity in this condition they will die a second death. The second part of your question is the Lord breathing on them. This enabled them to do His work. It is similar to the Old Testament saints where the Holy Spirit was upon a person as a commission for service. The third part of your question concerning Peter, upon whom I will build my church – It is not Peter on whom the church will be built but Peter’s confession and what was that confession –that Jesus is the Christ. Christ Jesus is our foundation. Blessings - Val |

457 | Amazement functioned in Mark? | Mark 1:22 | Val | 204639
Dear Mr. RC, Thank you for sharing your story with us. You have had a long life and a lot of trials with a lot of disappointments. I have been reading a book by Kay Arthur called "As Silver Refined". In it I have learned that the Lord uses these disappointments to refine us as silver and make us more like our Lord. I know you are going through chemo and I am so encouraged that you have so much passion for your beliefs in spite of your hardships. I am also studying Hebrews and have learned how I am not to get overly concerned about straightening out this world and other people and how I am to rest in the Lord because He is in total control. I hope I have not offended you because I have a different view of Revelation. I have always been taught to respect my elders. When I read your story, I am so sorry that this happened to you. It was wrong and it should not have happened. Please find it in your heart to forgive. You will rest so much better if you do. I want you to have peace in this. Thank you for your perseverance. Please know that we are one in Christ. Many blessings - Val

460 | Interpretative Schools? | Rev 1:1 | Val | 204467
Continued The interpretative approach taken by this website regarding Revelation 4-22 is that these passages describe literal people, places and events that will be fulfilled in the future. As someone has well said "If the plain sense makes good sense seek no other sense lest it result in nonsense." Most of the resources on this page are espouse the futuristic view, but this fact does not necessarily mean that we agree with every comment in all of the resources. The wide divergence of interpretative views makes it imperative that the reader of the Revelation be a "true blue" Berean (Acts 17:11) and perform his or her own inductive study prior to consulting any commentary, tape set, web site or sermon, lest he or she become mired down in confusing rhetoric and specious speculation. The Revelation of Jesus Christ was written to edify, equip, encourage and bless God's children, not to hopelessly confuse or divide them. Maranatha! Preceptaustin.org |
