"One of the most dramatic events that weighs on this issue was that of Jesus' transfiguration (see Matt. 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36; and 2 Pet. 1:16-18). Peter, James, and John all personally heard the voice of God and witnessed the visible appearance of Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. The obvious problem for Soul Sleep advocates is to explain how Moses, who had died centuries before (see Deut. 34:5, 6), could suddenly appear and converse with Jesus and Elijah (Elijah had not died but was taken to heaven in a fiery chariot--see 2 Kings 2:11). Perhaps Jesus' classic statement in this regard was when He received the news of His friend Lazarus' death. Told by his sister Martha of her brother's demise Jesus comforted and answered her by stating, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies." Jamison, the Mormons do not believe the exact same thing about Jesus. They add Joseph Smith. They believe or their leaders teach they must believe in Joseph Smith to go to heaven. They also believe their Jesus is Lucifer's brother. So you see they teach a different Jesus. Not the Lord of the Bible. They or their leaders teach that man can be God and have their own planet. They have added so much to the bible and made over 300 corrections to the Holy Bible. Do you see why you can't say that are exactly like us? They emphasize having large families and that entire families according to their plan go to heaven. Why do you think they are considered a cult?

Hello Jamison, thank you for responding. I understand your position. For myself, I understand from the story of the rich man and the poor man that the poor man went to Abraham's bosom. There was a great gulf between where the rich man and the poor man was. When Christ defeated death it is believed He took those with Him from Abraham's bosom to heaven and closed that compartment. However the compartment that contained the rich man is still there. I know that Israel was promised a land. When they died in other lands, their bones were taken with them to the promised land. They believed that God would raise their bones from the dead. We know from the Mount of Transfiguration that Moses and Elijah are in heaven. We are told that Enoch walked with God, he never died, he was taken. When we look at the whole counsel of God, I believe we go straight to heaven upon death of the body if we are In Christ Jesus. Am I understanding you correctly that you believe the spirit dies until resurrection?

432 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Val | 204818
Pastor Tim, so do you have an altar call? The reason I ask is 99.9 percent of the churches I have attended do. How do you view the argument about decisional regeneration in relation to the altar call? Do you believe that some power is transferred to the person who makes a decision to accept Christ? That somehow this negates the work of the Holy Spirit? Thanking you in advance. Val

Are you still holding to your comments that it is man who forgives the sins?
434 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Val | 204787
Colin, this passage in James 5:15 if you look at it closely you will see that the person who is sick is the one who initiates the call for the leaders of the church to come pray over him. Some believe this means that God has put this in the heart of the sick person and it is this impression from God that is an assurance of his healing. We know not all sick people are healed here on earth so it is not for everyone, just those whom God has put this in their hearts.
435 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Val | 204786
Colin, there is a principal that states when studying the bible let the obvious passages explain the difficult passages. We know that only God can forgive sin. We know that because He is our judge. This is in several obvious passages in the bible. This passage in John is a difficult passage. In understanding its meaning we consider the obvious passages: that only Jesus can forgive sins. So we must dig deeper to discover what the meaning is. |

Dear Doc, Is this the view that you hold below? 2. Particular Predestination This is the position that God has preordained, prearranged, and actively saves some men, while passively allowing other men to continue in their sin. This view is the orthodox Christian position, held by conservative theologians, generally from the Reformed and Fundamentalist camps. If it is I would say for myself, I do not believe that God is passive. I believe that He has given every person adequate enlightenment to know that He is God and has given them enough chances to seek Him so that when they die and stand before Him in judgement they will know that they had opportunities to seek Him and let those times pass them by. Dear Tam; Regarding the word seal. It is not spoken of in the OT as a seal. In the New Testament it is not spoken of as several seals only one which is given at the time of the new birth. Blessings; Val |

Dear Searcher: I looked on Theological.org and saw Mr. Zwingli. This is what it said about him Ulrich Zwingli (1484-1531) Major work • “Ten Theses of Berne” (1528) Importance • Third most important early Protestant reformer • Leader in Zurich • Held to a memorial view of Lord’s Supper • Was strongly predestinarian • Strong commitment to Scriptural authority • Opposed relics and penance • Strong view of providence • Held to inclusivism believing that there were “pious heathen” who were saved. • Inspired and then opposed Anabaptists • Was a Catholic priest • Preached exegetical sermons beginning with Matthew • Died in battle while serving Zurich troops • Had organs removed from church services Very interesting. Blessings - Val |
