3325 | God loves that you love | 1 John 4:18 | Searcher56 | 217113
God's day to you, Wofa Ato, and welcome to the SBF, I am going to ask you several questions. What "fear is perverse faith"? I fear the Lord, my God. Three verses - read their context. John 9:31 "We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him. Acts 9:31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase Cornelius was a righteous and God-fearing (Acts 10:2, 10:22). Wofa Ato, Question 2. Who has "faith in the devil's ability to harm you" Matthew 10:28 says "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Again, read the context ... oh yes there is fear again. Question 3 Do your not fear God? Question 4 Read the the book of Job. Who is one who the one who harmed Job? Read the first two chapters. While I know the devil can harm me, he cannot touch my soul. Searcher |

Wofa Ato, Fear and love can work together. Last question - for now. What say you to this verse? Deut 10:12 "Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, Searcher |

3328 | God loves that you love | 1 John 4:18 | Searcher56 | 217116
Wofa Ato, I am sorry one more quesion ... Let us look at the immediate context of this verse. 1 John 4:17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. 1 John 4:19 We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. Verse 17 says the fear about the judgment (of God) ... so where do you see the devil in this? |

3330 | baptism summed up....... | 1 John 5:6 | Searcher56 | 113698
Scripture ... Rom 6:3-5; 1Co 10:2, 12:13; Gal 3:27 ... To be baptized into Christ, His death, Moses and one body means identify publicly what you are being baptized into. The focus is not on the baptism. In Romans 6:3-5 we public identify with His death, burial, and resurrection - His work. |
||||||
3331 | What does baptism consist? | 1 John 5:6 | Searcher56 | 113699
Actually the word should be translated washings, as it is in some languages. Greek in consistent and English is very poor.

3333 | Why would you include 1 John 5:7? | 1 John 5:7 | Searcher56 | 98662
justanotherchristian ... since neither of us has the actula orginal letter John wrote ... or anyone for that matter, we do not not if "in heaven: the Father the Word and the Holy Spirit and these three are One" ... was added, so someone could make better understanding out of the passage ... and others continued ... or removed, because a copyist chose not to add the phrase ... for whatever reason. |

3334 | what sin leads to death, can't pray for. | 1 John 5:16 | Searcher56 | 48899
This subject has been previously discussed ... Type [suicide unforgivable] under Quick Search When you say "The only sin I think that would be unforgivable would be commiting suicide" ... do you have Scripture to back it up. The only sin that leads to death is not accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. John 3:16-17 is one passage that is most clear. Hope this helped more, Searcher |

3336 | Who is the 'lady'? | 2 John | Searcher56 | 10912
JVH0212 - 45,000 hours of study? Martin Luther proved the "experts" of his day wrong. I think they can miss something today, they have beedn known to change their minds. When I read my Bible, I do not read the "experts" until I have studied the passage myself. If I let them dictate what the Bible says, it is like the days of Martin Luther. The "expert" do disagree about verses 1 and 5. I haven't found a pausiable response to verse 13. As I said, it could be the wife (or some female relation) of the writer wanted to say hi. This is a minor issue. Steve |

Scriopture ... Acts 28:7 "Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us courteously three days." I believe three days is tradition ... read verse 11, they stayed three months. I see some preachers drive expensive cars, live in expensive places and have other expensive habits ... and aske for more. |

Scripture ... Gen 18:18, 24:1; Psa 112:9 (2 Cor 9:9); Pro 28:20; Matt 19:21; Mark 10:21; Luke 12:33, 18:22; Jam 2:5 ... GeeVee, greetings again. I have repsonded to five of your points: 1. What I wonder is, where does it say you should not have money? ... The Bible doesn't say you should not have money ... or even should have money. But, that is not the issue I have with the Health and Wealth lie. Again, compare the two churches. James 2:5 says, "Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?" 2. As long as the Lord reigns supreme in my life, is being prosperous a bad thing? ... It could be. Read the following in Matthew 19:21 "Jesus answered, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.' (xref Mark 10:21; Luke 12:33, 18:22) 3. None of these scriptures glorify being poor as being a better state than being rich. They merely caution against being in love with money or putting money ahead of God. As I remarked before, one could love money whether they are poor or rich. ... However, rereread the passage in 1 Timothy .... pay attention to verse 9. If you want to be rich, you'll never be rich enough ... you'll not be content. Proverbs 28:20 says "A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished." 4. After all did the Lord not bless Abraham with wealth? ... No and yes, though one may say Genesis 24:1 says that. Genesis 18:18 says that "all nations on earth will be blessed through him" ... because of Jesus Christ. 5. I learnt from a very wealthy man that the ONLY purpose of wealth is to bring people to the awesome grace of Jesus Christ. (emphasis mine) ... I find no Biblical basis for that statement, do you? In closing ... Psalm 112:9 says, "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor" (xref 2 Cor 9:9). Read the whole Psalm and 2 Corintians 9:6-15. So what are you going to do with what you have? Searcher |
