biblicalman, I wonder why you only included "Acts 1-15". Do you discount Paul who was an apostle according to Luke (Act 14:14)? Moreover, since Acts 13-14 is about the ministry of Barnabas and Paul, it is even more strange that you ended in chapter 15 and not not chapter 28. Bottom line I think the whole book of Acts is tells of the ministry/activities of the Apostles. Searcher |

God's day to you, biblicalman, I wonder why you said "If you read through Acts 1-15 and notice how often the ministry of all the Apostles" since Acts 14:14 says "But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul" ... and Paul called himself an apostle in the beginning of all his letters except one. Barnabas and Paul are the two mentioned in chapters 13-14 of Acts ... then starting in chapter 16 ... it is about the ministry of Paul. Searcher Did you know there were other apostles? |

God's day to you, biblicalman, "The numbers 7 and 70 were ALMOST universally seen as indicating divine perfection at the time" ... is my reason not to assign numbers, because there are excpetions. Remember, creation was completed in six days (Exo 20:11, et. al.). All I need is one verse to prove the exception. I do not twist Scripture to fit what I want. God's day to you, biblicalman, You said, "The Bible was written by a large number of different authors and they could well have had their own viewpoint." ... What is your source to say "their own"? The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." Likewise, 2 Peter 1:21 says "For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." When God inspired them to write 40, I believe it wasn't their own viewpoint, but God's. Searcher |

50 | Do God hear/answer prayers of unsaved? | Acts 10:4 | Searcher56 | 229529
Hey, Joe, if you read Acts 10 ... you'll see that Cornelius was unsaved when God sent an angel saying that his prayer was answered (vs 4) ... but study the rest of the chapter. I also believe in Romans 10:13, the calling on Him is a prayer ... and the person is unsaved when he begins to pray ... and is saved after (or during). If thatis not clear, I am unable to help you. God's day to you, Joel, I am sorry ... I used Acts 10:13 as my reference point ... see above. Acts 10:13-14 "And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here; and he will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’ Plus, I remember this verse as well ... Romans 10:13 "Whoever calls on the name of the LORD will be saved" ... look at the context of the verse and I think it is prayer. Paul quotes Joel 2:32, as did Peter in Acts 2:21 ... look at the context. Continue to ask questions and share, Searcher |

Scripture ... Mark 7:4, Luke 11:38, 1Co 10:2, Heb 9:10, Rev 19:13 ... Gen 37:21, Exo 12:22, 2 Ki 5:14 … Let me add something you may never hear from someone who grew up as a "Baptist", while 74 times baptize and its kin is translated baptize, baptism, et al, (never immersion) there are four verses, where it is translated washing/washed. -- Mark 7:4 says “And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables” (KJV). Some translations leave "tables" out. It could be that they view baptism as being dipped or immersed. It would be hard to dip or immerse tables to clean them. Nonetheless, the people did not immerse themselves they come from the market … they probably dipped in, poured over or washed part of their body. -- Luke 11:38 says, “And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner.” -- Hebrews 9:10 says, “various washings”, which I believe is ceremonial, as with the other verses. -- Revelation 19:13, where a derivative of the word bapto is used, as well as all of the other verses where we find the words bapto or embapto, give us no clue as to the meaning of the word "baptism." The Hebrews baptized in sea (1Co 10:2), but did any get wet? In the Septuagint the verb is Tabal … in 2 Kings 5:14, of Naaman's dipped himself in Jordan (cf Gen 37:21, Exo 12:22) … In Leviticus there are 6 times this word is used (4:6; 4:17; 9:9; 14:6; 14:16; 14:51) In post 22969, kalos, posted the following: "There are three modes (or mehods) of water baptism used in Christian churches today: immersion (in which the person is completely submerged), affusion (that is, pouring), and aspersion (sprinkling). Evangelical Christians are divided on the question of which mode or modes are proper forms of baptism. Some Christians (typically those who believe that only believers should be baptized) think that immersion is the only valid mode, while other Christians (usually those who recognize the validity of infant baptism) consider all three modes to be acceptable. (...) "Those who believe that all three modes are valid would point out that only in the most ritualistic view of baptism can the amount of water be considered important. The immersion-only view, they say, appears absurd: What if one hair fails to be immersed? What if a finger or a hand? Where does one draw the line? But the opposing argument can be made to appear absurd also: If a small amount of water is permissible, is one drop enough? How about no water at all (not a view to be laughed away, since the "Quakers" take this exact view)? Where does one draw the line at this end? Therefore, the better approach is to realize that it is the general form of the act and the intention of those involved that matter, not the precise amount of water used. The issue is: Shall we obey the command of Christ as He intended or shall we obey the command in a way that pleases us? (...) "What shall we conclude from these observations? "It seems clear to us that immersion is the biblical norm, but that it is not an inflexible norm. That is, Scripture and common sense indicate that the water is not all-important and that, therefore, other modes may be used as substitutes in exceptional circumstances. God accepts the believer on the basis of his faith in Christ and his desire to obey Him, not on the basis of how much water covered his body when he was baptized. The doctrine that immersion is the only valid mode of baptism and that only those so baptized should be admitted into the fellowship of the Church body would, therefore, appear to be a bit extreme and not based on Scripture. The Church should welcome into its fellowship all those whom Christ has accepted (Romans 15:7, I John 1:3)" … His source was www.equip.org/articles/the-mode-of-baptism. 53 | bible say about interracial marriages? | 2 Cor 6:14 | Searcher56 | 229448
Interracial marriages 1. First, I don’t mean to offend anyone. We need to define “race”. Is it “Red, Yellow, Black and White”, “Occidental, Oriental and Negroid”, or based on the three sons of Noah, Japheth, Shem, Ham. The latter were forefather of the northern, middle and southern peoples, respectively. From Shem, we have the Israelites. 2. God forbade marriages to the Ites (also from Shem), because they were not believers in Him (Exo 34:10-16; Deu 7:1-4; Ezr 9:10-15) ... as pointed out we are to do the same (2Co 6.14). … Note Exodus 12:48-49 allows a stranger to join, and by implication marry once he is circumcised. Rahab was allowed to marry an Israelite (Matt 1:5), Boaz married Ruth, a Moabite (Rut 4:13). Both women, daughters of Shem, who were strangers who joined the Israelites. The Moabites were from Lot (Abraham’s nephew) (Gen 12:5)) and his firstborn daughter (Gen 19:34-37). 3. It was Miriam and Aaron who condemned Moses marrying a Cushite, a daughter of Ham (Gen 10:6), but God was displeased at Miriam and Aaron, not Moses (Num 21:1-9). Solomon was the son of Bathsheba, who may have been a "daughter of Sheba" (Gen 10:7). David was never condemned for marrying outside of his race, but was for his method (2Sa 12:9-10). Solomon was condemned (1Ki 11:10-11) because his wives turned his heart after other gods (vs 3) … and he wasn’t to any foreign women (vs 2). Read Deuteronomy 17:16-17. 4. God's desire and perspective is that we all are one in Christ (Jhn 17:11; Gal 3:26-29; Eph 2:15; Col 3:11). Searcher |

55 | Defending themselves or accusing Jesus? | John 8:41 | Searcher56 | 229314
God's day to you, biblicalman, Unless you can prove what you said based on the Torah about betrothed/engaged, you have no standing. The Mishnah is Pharisaic oral tradition and is not valid. I even proved that you forgot about the '3 year old'. When you excluded that - I am concerned. That point is important. Without it, one could think he was talking about someone who could produce children. If you reread the Scripture I cited, you'll see that betrothal sex did not happen, evn could imply it was forbidden. Your weakness is that you refuse to listen/read. As with the generations, I will not waste any more time with you an this matter. You may continue, if you wish, but as with the generations, I will not answer. Searcher |

56 | Defending themselves or accusing Jesus? | John 8:41 | Searcher56 | 229304
God's day to you, biblicalman, Unlike the generations discussion, you think this "subject appears to be getting out of hand". I have Biblical proof to show you are incorret, as well as a link to the Jewish Encyclopedia and another link. There is a difference between a betrothal/engagement in the Bible ('aras (Hebrew) mnesteuo (Greek)) and engagement of today. An engagement today is an unenforceable promise, while a betrothal is. You are partially right, the two ways out were divorce (Deu 24:1) or her death. But, they were not husband (man) and wife (woman). Deuteronomy 22:24 is the only exception of the verses you cited. The wife is what was wanted ... the betrothal/engagement was the process. If betrothed woman had sex with a man other than her husband, the Bible gives the death penalty. If she consents (does not cry out), both are killed (Deu 22:23-24). If she cries out, only the man dies (vv 25-27). Note that if she is not betrothed, the man is forced to marry her (vv 28-29, Exo 22:16). Yes, sexual intercourse is a way a woman is acquired as a wife. But, were they betrothed/engaged? If he finds out she is not a virgin, and the charges are true, she is stoned to death (vv 13-21). This implies they had no sex before the wedding. The man could put her away (divorce her), if he wanted (Mat 1:19). There was a procession where bridegroom would come inviting friends and family (Gen 29:22; Mat 22:1-10, 25:1-13; Luk 14:8; Jhn 2:2). It was only after the wedding feast that Jacob went into Leah, thinking it was Rachel (Gen 29:22-23). Deuteronomy 20:7 shows that betrothed man lived in his own tent and was not “shacking up”. She was still in her father’s tent (Gen 21:21). Hebrews 13:4 says “Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” So those who are betrothed should not have sex, since they are not married. The Mishnah is Pharisaic oral traditions and they twisted the Torah to their wants and whims. Your Rabbi Joseph quote is missing "of the age of 3 years" http://www.angelfire.com/bug/answering/age3.htm ... I hope you disapprove of this. I DO. God's day to you, Bendiciones! Welcome back "What does the Bible say?" This is a minor issue. No matter how many Scripture references one uses, another reference, even a few present another view. People even twist the Bible to fit their view (I am not saying it is true here) ... there are some you have listened to one view their entire life and believe what they are told (I am not saying it is true here). Since this is a minor issue, I have weighed what was said ... and have not changed my view. "What does the Bible say?" S. |
