1841 | Is God ONE or is God THREE? | James 2:19 | Ray | 36696
Hi Tim, I think that people who believe in the Trinity don't assert "that God is Three (3)" but rather that He is Three in One. Mark 14:55, "Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put (Him) to death; and they were not finding any." They wanted to put God to death would you believe? I would. Mark 14:61, "But (He)[Man]kept silent, and made no answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and says to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" Mark 14:62, "And Jesus said, "(I am);..."[Spirit] The verse in James says that there is one God. And Scripture also says that God is One. You are correct there of course. The capitalization shows that this One is God. But the Son of the Blessed One is God also. In fact He is the great I am for they (all three) are one. Matthew 23:9, "But do not be called *rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father; for (One) [Spirit] is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called leaders; for One [God] is your Leader, that is, Christ." [Man, not a mere man]. I would like to talk with you later about Mark 12:32, Deut 4:39, and Hosea 13:4 but I have to leave it for later. It will be good to hear if these Scriptures help in the discussion of the one true God. From the heart, Ray |

1842 | Is God ONE or is God THREE? | James 2:19 | Ray | 36890
Hi Tim, Part 2 Matthew 23:9, "But do not be called *rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father; for (One) [Spirit] is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called leaders; for One [God] is your Leader, that is, Christ." [Man, not a mere man]. 1 John 5:5, "And who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that (Jesus) [Spirit, for we know no man now according to the flesh] is the Son of God? This is the One [God] who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; [Man, not a mere man] not in the water only, but in the water and in the blood." Mark 12:32, "The scribe said to Him, 'Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that He is One, and there is no One else besides Him; And to love (Him) [God] with all the heart...is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." Mark 12:27, "David himself calls Him 'Lord': and so in what sense is He his (Son?) [Spirit] Deuteronomy 4:39, "Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord, He is *God [Spirit] in heaven and on the earth below; there is no other." Hosea 12:9, "But *I have been the Lord your God since the land of Egypt; Hosea 13:4, "Yet *I have been the Lord your God since the land of Egypt; And you were not to know any (God) [God] except Me, For there is no Savior besides Me.[Man] I cared for you in the wilderness, In the land of drought. As they had their pasture, they became satisfied, And being satisfied, their heart became proud; Therefore they forgot Me. [Spirit] Hosea 13:7, "So *I will be like a lion to them;..." Hosea 13:14, "Shall *I ransom them from the power of Sheol?" Here is a four part sermon for some preacher out there; But I, Yet I, So I, and Shall I. But for our discussion about the one true God, this is my interpretation of John 4:23,24 for what it is worth, "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in Spirit and truth; for such people the *Father [Spirit] seeks to be His worshipers. God is (Spirit) [God], and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit [Man, not a mere man] and truth." I would disagree with you Tim if you say that we have to think of Jesus as a man. Let me know if I have typed anything that you can comment on. From the heart, Ray |

1843 | Is God ONE or is God THREE? | James 2:19 | Ray | 37506
Hi Tim, You wrote, "Now we understand from John 4:24 that God is a spirit, or a spiritual being." Is that a correction in your mind to the Genesis reading of the Spirit? I interpret John 4:24 as "God is (Spirit) and those who worship Him [Jesus] must worship Him in Spirit and truth." As far as John 10:30 is concerned, the KJ reads, "I and my Father are one." If you are not comfortable with "I and My" equalling one, then I would suggest that you can render it as "I and the Father are One." That is to say, both I and the Father are Deity. Or, both I and the Father are Holy. But to say "I and Father are one" would either be a mistranslation or a misunderstanding. From the heart, Ray |

1844 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 80217
Hi imuvhim, In regard to the "now I know" it should be noted that it is the Angel NKJ] of the Lord that is speaking. It is difficult to understand the blend of the triune God here with the word "Me". Genesis 22:11, "But the angel [Angel, NKJ,] of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." And he [He, NKJ] said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me." 1845 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 80220
Hi jlpangilinan, I believe that God was hiding from Abraham what He was going to do. In my mind's eye I can see the Lord asking this question of the two men with Him, verse 17, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do,...? Indeed He did for we see in Genesis 19:13 that the orders had already been given. 13 "for we are about to destroy this place because their outcry has become so great before the Lord that the Lord has sent us to destroy it." After talking to the two men [angels] in 18:17-19, I can picture in my mind His then turning to Abraham. Genesis 18:20, "And the Lord said, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. *I will go down now, and see if they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me/; and if not, I will know. Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the Lord." John 2:24c, "for *He knew all men, and because He/ did not need anyone to witness concerning man for He knew what was in man." The stars and slash marks are mine for comparisons. God knew even while He was conversing with Abraham that fifty righteous men would not be found. He knew that forty-five would not be found; He knew that ten righteous men would not be found in Sodom. But the passage is there as an assurance to us that God is just in His dealings and that He is in control. From the heart, Ray |

Hi imuvhim, I must apologize for not completing the quote from MacArthur's Study Bible. Perhaps by leaving it incompleted, I made it sound not right to you. I won't write all of his note for James 2:21 but I will complete his note from where I started. MacArthur's Study Bible note for James 2:21" "...Instead, Abraham's offering of Isaac demonstrated the genuineness of his faith and the reality of his justification before God. James is emphasizing the vindication before others of a man's claim to salvation. [continuing] James's teaching perfectly complements Paul's writings; salvation is determined by faith alone (Eph. 2:8,9) and demonstrated by faithfulness to obey God's will alone (Eph. 2:10). 1847 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 80316
Hi imuvhim, I think I see what you are saying. The last part of the MacArthur quote should help us. He spoke of the faith that saved and the faithfulness that was demonstrated afterward. Perhaps the second faith that you speak of is MacArthur's "faithfulness". Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved by faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of (God); not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are *His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,..." Genesis 18:19, "For (I) have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the *Lord by doing righteousness and justice; in order that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him." I hope that I have been of help and have understood you. From the heart, Ray |

1849 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 80321
Hi imuvhim, Yes, you are understanding my point. That is why I capitalize Angel in verse 11 and He in verse 12. Genesis 22:12, "...for NOW I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me." Galatians 3:8, "NOW that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "The righteous man shall live by faith."" From the heart, Ray |

1850 | Is God our friend? | James 2:23 | Ray | 105375
Hi kalos, Thank you for these Scriptures. In my own personal study I have compared/contrasted James 2:23 with its "it was reckoned to him [Abraham] as righteousness" with John 15:12. John 15:12, "This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you." John 13:15, "For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you." James 2:23, "And Abraham believed God,...and he was called the friend of God." I hope this is meaningful. I hold you as a friend through the years and would like to take time to thank you for your support of me recently. ...,Ray |

1851 | Aliens in the World, but Chosen by God | 1 Pet 1:1 | Ray | 21337
Hi Tim, Tim, you write, "1 Peter tells us how to live the Christian life in a hostile world." I would like to look at this thought in the sense of this life that we as aliens, strangers, and the elect lead. In other words, this godly life, this christian life. 1 Peter 4:14 says, "...but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify God." I believe that we are to suffer in the name of christian for the glory of God. I am not saying that that Christian should not be capitalized but I am saying that we are saints not Saints, we are adoptive sons not Sons. The last chapter tells more of his audience also. We see the words elders, fellow elders, witnesses, partakers, humble examples of the flock of (God). We are blessed because we know the Triune God as we see in 1Peter 4:14. "If you are reviled for [literally, in] the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you." You have made a good introduction and the fact that "it doesn't matter what...God has chosen you" was very powerful to me. Thanks. |

1852 | Outline of 1 Peter | 1 Pet 1:1 | Ray | 21434
Hi Tim, Here is the outline that I developed for submission to you. A. 1Peter 1:2 We are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God B. 1Peter 1:3 Blessed be this God/Man. May the genuinesness of our faith be found to result in praise, and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. C. 1Peter 1:8 We love Him. Though we have not seen Him, and though we do not see Him now, we believe in Him and rejoice greatly because of the "sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow." D. 1Peter 1:13 This God/Man is the One who impartially judges according to each man's work here on earth. "Therefore,...fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ." E. 1Peter 1:21 and 1:3 With precious blood, as of an unblemished and spotless lamb, this One has redeemed us. And through Him we are believers in God. Our faith and hope is in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the power of God. The word of the Lord endures forever. F. 1Peter 2:4 The Spirit is a living stone that is choice and precious in the sight of God. "You also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." Verse 9, "But you are 'A chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession...'" G. 1Peter 2:10 "...for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received merecy, but now you have received mercy." Keep your behavior excellent so that God may be glorified. Verse 19, "For this finds favor [grace], if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly." H. 1Peter 2:21 Follow in His steps. "...find favor with God. For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps..." I. 1Peter 2:24 and 4:2-5 God Himself judges righteously. "and He/Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed." When we return to the Shepherd and Guardian of our souls He will hear our prayers. Verse 10, "For, 'The one who desires life, to love and see good days, must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. He must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears attend to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.'" J. 1Peter 3:15 "but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts,...having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit." K. 1Peter 3:21 An appeal to God--so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. L. 1Peter 4:6 "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the Spirit according to the will of God...so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." M. 1Peter 4:14 "If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed.." You have suffered "according to the will of God." N. 1Peter 5:2 and 2:21 As we follow in His steps, we are to "shepherd the flock of God among you." Verse 6, "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time..." O. 1Peter 5:10 We look to the God of all grace. "Peace to you all who are in Christ." 1853 | Why can we not just be Christians? | 1 Pet 1:2 | Ray | 151597
Hi Angel, Romans 1:29 was probably the verse that Not Yet had in mind. Here are verses that I would tie together after reading the discussion on this thread. Romans 1:22, "Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible (God) for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures." 2 Peter 3:14, "Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by (Him) in peace, spotless and blamesless," 2 Thess 3:4, "And we have confidence in the (Lord) concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command." John 4:25, "...(He) will declare all things to us." John 5:40, "and you are unwilling to come to (Me) that you may have life." John 6:65, "And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you that no one can come to (Me) unless it has been granted him from the Father." Ephesians 5:24, "But as the church is subject to (Christ), so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything." 2 Corinthians 5:20, "Therefore, we are ambassadors for (Christ)..." Colossians 2:6, "As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in (Him)," Colossians 3:1, "If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of (God). 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." Romans 8:16, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God)," The parentheses are mine for comparisons. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Hank, Am I to understand that you see no similarities in the Scripture references I quoted and the placement of the parentheses? Where were you, Hank, when I first used parentheses in 04-01-01? Where were you from then to very recently, having made no comment about it whatsoever. From the heart, Ray |

1855 | Why can we not just be Christians? | 1 Pet 1:2 | Ray | 151661
Hi Angel, Thank you for your encouragement. 2 Corinthians 6:1, "And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of (God) in vain--" Hebrews 10:29, "...and has insulted the (Spirit) of grace?" 1) Hebrews 10:38, "But (My) righteous one shall live by faith;..." Romans 1:17, "For in it the righteousness of (God) is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "But the righteous man shall live by faith." Romans 8:37, "But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through (Him) who loved us." Colossians 1:28, "And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in (Christ)." From the heart, Ray |

1856 | We Love Him! | 1 Pet 1:8 | Ray | 22755
Hi Nolan, Hebrews 2:8,9 came to my mind."but now we do not yet see all things subjected to him [Him]. But we do see Him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. "For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author [Author] of their salvation through suffering." We rejoice at the revelation of Jesus Christ whom to know is to love. |

1857 | Is the Holy One Jesus of the Father? | 1 Pet 1:15 | Ray | 14366
Hi wwjdlc, Your interest here is the same as mine. I encourage you to rejoin the forum and let us know how you are doing in your desire to know Him. I started my search in knowing the Spirit in the gospel of John. See John 14:7, John 10:14, John 6:51, John 15:16, 26, John 16:27, John 17:24, John 9:29, and John 18:37, "Everyone who is of the (Truth) hears My voice." Pilate said to Him, "What is Truth?" Parentheses mine to show the Spirit in my mind. It is good for us to know (Him). Later, Ray |

1858 | Addressing your Father | 1 Pet 1:17 | Ray | 49711
Hi justme, Thank you for your prayers. I am sure that many are still praying for me, as I have been on a list in many churches. I feel well, thank you. As you have written, we simply pray that everything will happen as God wills it and that we may be able to see that. In this eleventh chapter of John, Jesus wants Mary and Martha to see the glory of God. And Jesus deliberately waited for Lazarus to die so that that could be accomplished. Both Mary and Martha said, "If You had been here..." But sometimes it is best that He seems not to be here for us; He has something better planned evidently, (or not so evidently). In Matthew 8:2 the leper says "if You are willing..." Here again is the big "If" word. We know that He is able. Matthew 8:2, "And behold, a leper came to Him, and bowed down to Him, saying, "If You are willing, You/can make me clean. And He stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, "(I) am willing; be cleansed." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed." John 11:21, "Martha therefore said to Jesus, 'Lord, if You had been here my brother would not have died. Even now I know that whatever You/ ask of God, God will give (You)." Mary said the same thing in verse 32, that is, "If You." John 11:41, "And so they removed the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes, and said, "Father, I/ thank Thee that Thou heardest (Me)." Matthew 6:9, "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy/ name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven...[For (Thine) is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.] Jesus prayed to His Father, and Jesus is our Mediator to the Father. And, justme, you have mentioned that the Holy Spirit helps get the message to God. A contrast of John 11:22 and John 14:13 gives us a picture of who asks who of what. John 11:22, "Even now I know that **whatever You/ ask of God, God will give (You)." John 14:13, "And **whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the (Father) may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, you will keep My commadments. And I will ask the Father, and (He) will give you..." I trust that everyone sees the contrast between you and You. And of course the parentheses I have added to the NASB renderings for comparisons. From the heart, Ray |

1860 | How was Jesus slain 'before' ? | 1 Pet 1:20 | Ray | 40844
Hi CDBJ, I hesitate to answer your post because I had to look up "perspicuous". I wanted to tell you that your choices of Scripture were excellent for the points that you made. Thank you. Can I give you some comparison phrases from my study of your references? 1 Peter 1:20, "For *He [Christ] was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you..." [Even though they did not honor Him as *God]. See Romans 1:21. Ephesians 1:4, "In love *He predestined us to adoption as sons..." Ephesians 1:11, "In *Him also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to (His) purpose..." Ephesians 1:18, "...so that you may know what is the hope of *His calling, what are the riches of the glory of (His) inheritance in the saints..." Romans 8:16, "The Spirit *Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God)." See Romans 6:22, John 17:9, James 4:7 Romans 8:23, "And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the *Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body." John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of *God, even to those who believe on (His) name." Romans 8:28, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love *God, TO THOSE WHO are called according to (His) purpose." John 1:12, "...to them He gave the right to become children of *God, even TO THOSE WHO believe in (His) name." I hope that you can see these comparisons and that this is worthwhile to you even as yours were to my mind. From the heart, Ray |
